Honestly, I’m not out there much anymore but if I go, I’ve got a variety of spots on both sides between Stillwater and Afton.

Sorry but you need to figure it out. I have spent many hours on the lake with very good success. 40 walleye days limits of crappie and bluegills. Plenty of catfish. Once you figure it out it becomes very easy good luck.

Would it be too much to offer a little insight?

    Well, let’s hang on a minute here…

We can fish shore to shore with either license, but they’re going to enforce the regs by a division of the water? Can they legally enforce this? Here’s my take:

We have always been bound by our resident state license for the regulation’s enforcement on the St. Croix River. According to that provision, we can fish the whole river but are bound by the regulations of our resident license. If you live in MN, the WI regs DO NOT apply to you on that shared water. By dividing the river, they are denying the exercise of practicing the rules we are provided and bound by. According to the phrasing, a MN angler is allowed to fish WI waters with a MN license, but if the angler is on “WI turf,” those regulations no longer apply, and the angler is bound by the regulations of a license they did not purchase. Well, if they’re going to play it that way, it should also be legal then, for MN anglers to run 3 lines on the “WI side.”

It is not ethical to split the rules and say that one rule applies, but not another, if the resident license regulations can be forsaken somewhere in the waterway. It is a preposterous notion to state that any MN/WI angler on the St. Croix is bound to his/her resident license regulations, eligible and legal to fish shore to shore, but is subject to the other state enforcing rules that a legal angler is not, by class of enforcement, bound by.

Who can we call to expose this contradiction of public interest?

Well, I was dead set on a Tikka in 6.5 creed, but I ended up saying “what the hay” and threw a bid on a Tikka Compact 308 on Gunbroker. Well wouldn’t yah know, ended up winning the thing for a pretty screaming deal. Going to work up a load with 168 ELDMs, and it should be a pretty handy little rifle capable of some moderate LR work.

Now I’m on the hunt for a Tikka donor action/rifle to spin on a 260 AI barrel.

Congratulations on your win! I love GunBroker!

Had a bunch of boats pass me on the road today and saw one fishing a stream near Black River Falls… or Tomah… I forget.

I’m definitely ready to get the boat wet… didn’t get out past July last summer! I’m jonesin’!

Wow… got some readers here! I’m releasing my first novel summer of 2025 in hardcover, paperback, ebook, audiobook formats. It’s an all-ages fantasy fiction writing, book 1 of a double trilogy. My partnering publisher is also submitting the manuscript to a team of screenwriters, and this is scheduled to be pitched for movie production as well.
It’s an easy reading original tale that shares influences of Harry Potter, Toy Story, Star Wars, and Indiana Jones. It’s got action, humor, sci-fi, animation, magic, adventure… a little something for everyone. Your “tweeners” should really enjoy it but 100% of the adult test readers reported a thumbs up as well.

I planned to make an announcement when the products release, so this is only a teaser blurb, but I’d sure be grateful if any of you were willing to check it out! The title is “The Clometheons” which is a blended word, combining “clothing” and “chameleon.”

    That’ll be a fun day!

Funny that you should talk about the disparity out there now… when I was a kid, my Remington 582 didn’t care what brand it was, but it seemed to prefer the copper jackets for tighter groups/consistent kill shots. These days, Winchester rounds are hit or miss for me, but the Federals are holding up.

I have this super cheap, ultra-dirty ammo I bought on a clearance a few years ago (Maxx Tech) for $.0178/round (so I bought 10,000 rounds). It’s so dirty, I won’t put it in a quality rifle. However, I have this Rossi Gallery Gun that doesn’t seem to care about that at all and I can group 1/2″ at 25yds, hi-vis sights. The gun itself… there’s not a single feature I like compared to something else, but the dumb thing shoots that dirty ammo so well I save it for helping me clear high, damaged branches that just need to come down.

Wish I had the time… I have the gear, the guns, the ammo, just need the license. Shoot me a pm… maybe I can make something happen!

Click, and about click, aren’t quite the same. I’ve heard ’em… there’s room to quiet further.

My dad has been using these for a couple of years now and I admit, our houses are the same distance as they’ve always been (I’m across the road!), but I don’t hear him shoot unless he grabs the 410. I have every intention of getting a new 22lr with a threaded barrel and putting a shoosher on it. Those “Quiet” rounds will be “Click” rounds!

I bought up a bunch of Shimanos back when they were a better quality, so mine are still holding up to this day, my favorites being a trio of Stradic Mag 1500s. As Shimano dropped, I got into Pflueger Presidents and Supremes, and those too, are holding up. Every Daiwa I’ve tried has not lasted, so I’m glad to hear they’re treating somebody right; I’m just not that guy I guess.
I have been using Okuma line counters for over 20 years and except for the “wandering drag setting,” those have been rock solid. If they’re putting the same quality into their spinning reels, I can see why some are happy with them.

Great thread! I find that if I listen for it, I can hear it, but often are the times I can’t say that I notice it. Between the concerts, 15yrs of gigging, dirt bikes, snowmobiles, gun shots, and factory jobs, I’m surprised that my hearing loss isn’t worse. I have used ear protection through at least 50% of my exposure to ear damaging decibels, so maybe there’s a little benefit there. I’m curious about the acupuncture as well, almost like, “what have I got to lose?”

I have decided that every new bing-bang from now on is going to come with a threaded barrel. I really like shooting with the “shooshers” on the end.

I’m going to look at this. I didn’t know they made one in the 10mm.

If I remember right, they’re priced higher than a Glock, but cheaper than a Sig P320, and single stack. I haven’t dropped yet because I used all my Christmas gift cards on a CVA Cascade. I’ve got other handguns so I’m not in a hurry, but I did like what I saw in that 1911 10mm. I saw it at Fleet Farm. If you get one before I do, I’d be interested in your impression/opinions.

This is good to hear… I’ve been eye-balling the 1911 in 10mm. All I have from RIA is a single shot throw around 410, which has taken all the abuse I’ve asked it to.

    I’m heartless.

I like the birds. So maybe not totally heartless. But I do not tolerate pests. Those allowances were there before for good reason and I’ll just bring out the quiet methods if they change the literature.

Exactly, that’s how I initially got my hands on some. The Power Blade stuff is more readily available and more expensive. They don’t offer a choice of grains in that line, at least not from what I’ve seen.

Fleet Farm has their .308win Super Hammerheads on clearance for $23.97/box. If you have a loyalty account, you can drop that down to $21.58/box. 150gr or 180gr, they’re pricing it to move.

Given what I’ve seen from this deer, if your rifle will shoot them well, they just might be the best value available right now.

Hard to find… I found mine at Fleet Farm originally for $35/bx. It sold out fast so I bought more online, and only Impactguns.com had it then. I think Gunprime.com has it now, but this stuff is hard to find.

Fleet Farm in Hudson still has it available for .308win, and I have a box of 180gr, but I haven’t shot it yet to see if the Weatherby likes it. $35/bx.

Saw one myself near Roberts, WI in 1989, crossing a private drive between my parents’ place and the south neighboring land. Dad wouldn’t believe me until photos were taken of a cougar wandering a parking lot in Burkhardt, WI a couple of days later.
That same year, the Bruce Gazette published an article about a pair of mated cougars being discovered in the Blue Hills east of Rice Lake, WI, and the DNR was asking everyone to leave them alone so they could be studied.
Funny though, in more recent years, if you talk to a CO about such a thing, it’s always met with, “Cougars? What cougars? We don’t have a resident population here.”

I’m like BuckyBadger… I’m on my property or family owned/private property 100% of the time. If I want extra protection while archery hunting, I’m bringing it. Come get me. I also tend to open carry or sport a shotgun when roaming my property, which is only 200 yds north of where I saw the cougar all those years ago. My neighbors never give me any crap… jester

I have only sold off one gun in my life, the rest go into storage to be used again someday. That gun I sold was a Mossberg. Poorest tolerances I have ever seen in a gun. Crap. Mossberg is the prime example of you get what you pay for.

And I knew that going in. That said, the Silver Reserve 28ga and ATR100 .243 have worked flawlessly for me, so I had a little hope that it would suffice. And I’ll probably keep the two listed… I have no reason to get rid of them. I won’t try anything more going forward though. toast

WOW that is a dandy Ken!
That buck deserves to be hung on a wall. Too bad it wasn’t harvested by a hunter.

I passed by this buck, still alive, bed down and watching me drive by. A dead doe lay in the median. I went to the next exit and turned around, drove to the next exit, turned around again. By this time, I had contacted someone to come pick it up for me (can’t haul it in the semi… just can’t… lol), and had a WI state trooper dispatched. While he was on his way, I contacted the DNR and was issued a claim tag.
Two officers came to the scene but the one that put the animal out of its misery told me that was the biggest buck he’s ever had to put down. He also told me that he appreciated me taking the animal so it wouldn’t go to waste.
Today, I took both hind quarters (pre-trimmed) into a processor and having about 55lbs worth of brats, sausage, and hot dogs made. The back straps are vacuum sealed and in the freezer, less one breakfast worth! I split the back straps with the animal transporter as a thank you tip, plus paid for the gas burned.
The buck is a 19pt non-typical. I’ll have it scored after it comes home from the taxidermist, as this magnificent beast needs to be celebrated for the stud it once was.
It had been hit on the right side, shoulder area was messed up, there were a couple of broken ribs, and the left front leg was broken from the aftermath of the impact.
No vehicle was at the scene, nor did anyone come to the scene. Guessing a rig with a guard hit it because it should have killed the average car.
A friend of mine… that other friend of Deuces… placed a photo with details on a Facebook group and a guy recognized it. I’ve gotten to see a video of the deer, and he claimed that he knew no one would ever kill that buck outside of the rut. He claims it never left a 200yd radius and he saw it commonly.

    “……… November 2, 2023 at 6:27 pm

Last January, I picked up a Patriot in 350 Legend for short range “whatever.” I didn’t take it out until a month or so ago and immediately discovered that the high……….”
My question is why you waited 10 months?

For starters, there was over three feet of snow on the ground where I shoot most often. I didn’t feel like triggering a heart attack just walking down the lane to set the target. And it was cold… no need to be uncomfortable… is there? On top of it, I was recovering from a torn MCL and meniscus in my left knee. I’m sure crutches would have made it all better though… really… I’m sure of it.
By the time spring came, I had over 30 trees fallen and/or damaged from the spring blizzard. That takes a little time, again… not to mention the knee that was taking its sweet time recovering.
Next thing I knew, I was back to work, which takes me away from home for days at a time and there was still work to catch up on because of delays from my knee.

Bottomline: When you buy a “whatever” gun… it’s not a priority and easily dismissed when the care-o-meter has a broken needle. An indicator that there are still too many luxuries in my life… or more important things to focus on.

    Good?

The whole rifle is a common request. It always should be the whole rifle anyway so they can check it over. But not surprised by the quality. Selling rifles a while back the 715T or whatever the 22 ar rifle they sell pretty much made up my mind that Mossberg was no bueno. I sent in several rifles for customers and never saw them come back.

As noted with the Henry, but that’s not what Mossberg started with, all the way up to asking me to tamper with the magazine itself, and then deciding I should send the whole thing in.
The problem is 100% the magazine itself. I monkeyed enough to find out if it would feed right with properly aligned rounds, which it does.

My order for the “in stock” replacement has not been confirmed yet, but the day is young! (Kind of… lol)
