The smell yesterday would indicate that it wasn’t just forest burning. Reminded me of the Becker scrap yard fire.

No, but I bet you want it. Kind of like natural male enhancement, only for your car.

For their safety, please keep that out of reach of fireflies.

Make sure all water is out as any left in the exhaust passage can flow back to the powerhead.

A quick search shows that many pesticides are pretty much low strength nerve agents. Think about that the next time you get a whiff of what you are spraying or when your children or pets are in a self inflicted hot zone.

I also find it strange that that on an outdoors forum there is so little concern over the extreme danger to aquatic organisms so clearly stated on nearly every single bug control product.

Struggling to even cover the bottom of my trap cup over a week while so many are saying how thick they are tells me that traps work. It just takes time, like the mosquito deleto traps. Just don’t put either one right next to the bugs natural target.

Trapping has taken only one or two bumble bees per year and for one other poster been beneficial to fish. Can any sprayers say the same?

DO NOT USE THOSE BAGS THEY SELL they bring more bugs to your area because of the pheromones they put out.

What if you already have them thick? They are already having an orgy on your tasty leaves, attracting even more. Since I will not go scorched earth with poisons, trapping is all that’s left. Could just be a cycle but 2 years ago I hit a peak with 4 traps and over a gallon of bugs a day. Last year 2 traps was overkill. In the last 4 years I’ve single handedly prevented millions of eggs from being laid. So far this summer they are very light. Cherry tree hasn’t been defoliated since trapping began either.

Unfortunately for anyone getting in to trapping, the reusable hard plastic Tanglefoot traps that are easily emptied are no more, just the bag systems.

flies, on the other hand, are driving me crazy. I’m going to try this. I assume the cup has to be blue for some reason?

The general consensus is that blue is best, but black works too. Tanglefoot Tangle Trap adhesive works best. Get the can with the brush cap, not the aerosol.

Kind of discouraging all the chemicals being applied by almost everyone. I quit fogging camp years ago for the amphibians and now that I’ve noticed a lot of rust patched bumblebees the last few years, pesticides are strictly prohibited.

As far as deer flies and their smaller version the buffalo gnat, sticky blue solo cup traps are extremely effective and have very little bycatch. Put them out saturday, you will notice less by sunday. Have one buzzing your head, go near a trap and it’s over quick. I even wore one on my head once after finding a nice wild strawberry patch. https://hotspotoutdoors.com/forums/topic/185681-strawberries-with-a-side-of-deer-flies/

That is good news! Been thinking of doubling my output for larger gatherings with a second unit.

First or second use someone commented- you could kill a case of beer with that thing. That was a lot of cases ago..

Probably not, since crocs are primarily for people who can’t reach their feet anymore right?

Seen one survive a trip across almost bare ice at 70mph while still attached to a 20 pounder and spinning with the hose at full stretch like a bola.

Biggest thing to worry about is that eye bolt at the hubs. I got brained by my Command Post roof right next to a spear hole. A less hard head may have fallen in.. Spent the rest of my time sitting down with a beer in one hand while staining a leather mitten red with the other.

At least the story included no charges for transporting fish from one body of water to another.

No complaints here. More ice would be nice but another foot and I have to drill outside.

That previous sunglasses thread got me looking around and ended up with BNUS shades. Glass lenses and made in Italy. These Rangers fit loose enough on my big melon that I would be a little worried about strong cross/tailwinds.

Get some snow tires and hopefully keep the chains unused. Your time on winter roads will be far more pleasant too.

Perhaps the biggest bummer about it getting canceled is the lack of early ice.

An uninsulated flip over can easily be insulated with Reflectix. Doesn’t help the sides but does make a big difference. I go from the bottom of the front all the way around and in to the tub. The tarp will never frost up and drip on you. My “beater” trap2 is going on 20 years and it’s Reflectix has held up well.

I need new tires on my wife’s CRV, as the original are plain worthless. I was reminded of that fact on Tuesday. I am thinking of going with all weather versus all season as they will be much better for winter like driving that makes up quite a bit of the year here in the MN.

My wife has Yokohama Avid Ascends on her CRV and they have been great. She’s had them for 2 years now without issue.

Good tire, but terrible in snow.

If they don’t have the 3 peak mountain/snowflake badge on the sidewall there’s a good chance they aren’t very good in snow. Also, the higher the expected mileage, you should expect lesser snow performance. An 80k tire would be the last on my list unless I lived where there is no snow ever.

I’ve gone to full winter tires and there is no going back to all seasons, they all suck in snow as far as I’m concerned.

There are some all season plus tires now that do bridge the gap like Toyo Celsius Cargo and Nokian WRG. My now discontinued Cooper ATW’s made almost new Continentals seem bald in comparison. Their AT3 4s looks very similar.

Pretty sure all the lakes near Isanti hold only small panfish.

Some might hate me for this tidbit I learned while studying up on an enemy. If you see one that has landed on your food or beverage, even for just a moment, it likely already laid some eggs. This helped confirm my belief that a beer is instantly tainted by them. I have a sensitive nose..

This stuff will do the trick. Had a buddy that bought some and two drops will clear out a room.

Curiosity got me. This is quite possibly the worst smelling thing I’ve ever encountered.

Black duct tape on a light colored hat with Tanglefoot sticky trap adhesive applied. No attractant in it, that’s what your head is for. I’m sure a tape loop works but biting flies are attracted to dark colors so the black tape may work better.

Placing blue Solo cup traps around your property works wonders. Gets buffalo gnats also, they are programmed like deer flies. I put black garbage bags on a couple junk 100lb propane tanks to simulate a dark body and provide some movement and a blue sticky cup head(make sure to tape the bag down or the cup will catch it!). I had to put fresh cups over the first ones within a week they were so loaded. Cups hanging from branches work, not quite as good though. A friend hung a sticky cup from a fiberglass pole on his riding mower and got lots.

Struggle, struggle, die is satisfying to watch when it comes to biting flies.

Must really hurt when that rod gets outfished by an old old garage sale ugly stick.
