Kooty’s recommendation is on the money. From what I remember, it is line with recommendations from the likes of Minn Kota. You can verify the best fit for your rig on their website. One more thing. I upgraded my troller 2 years ago ( coincidentlally the 54″, 55lbs Minnkota in the 12 Volt version, with autopilot) and would highly recommend the autopilot feature. I wouldn’t buy another motor witohut it. C-Ya!
If I remember correctly, it was about 3-4 feet of the back of the boat, or a little farther out. I always used 4WD to get back off the incline, but never really dug in or had other problems. Then again, I was using either an S10 or a Jeep wrangler.
Have you ever tried the public landing about half way between Hwy 22 and Bridge St. in St. Francis, off of Hwy 7? It’s on the East side of 7 and it’s a sand landing, no cement. I’ve gotten my 14′ Lund in there several times. You’d have limited range but there are some decent holes that I’ve found ‘eyes in. Watch your depth very carefully, don’t go too fast. Let me know if you go, how you do.
I’m very interested. I’ve fished the Highway 24/Bridge St. to Highway 22/Viking blvd stretch for about 25 years but don’t manage more than 1-2 trips there a year now. I have a particular fondness for the Rum and have had far more success than not.Good luck.
Thanks for the welcome. Alot of people have respond very positively. I like the site. I’ll be able to give you an update on the water conditions no later than Monday. I know they raised the pool above the dam on May 18th, and when I was there last week (tuesday&friday) water was fairly clear, by Mississippi standards.
Just curious what your experience has been on the river now, how things are going. Did you take or look into the Boat safety class? I’m not new to river fishing, just the mississippi, and I’m trying to learn about the area above the Coon Rapids Dam, close to my house.
