Hi Mike, We’re looking forward to seeing you guys again. I know last year you guys whacked them on Gull. This year shouldn’t be any different, Gull is primed for another big opener. Just a ton of hungry walleyes in Gull. Now that the lakes are open the crappies are biting. The crappie bite should continue into May as well. A nice back up plan. See you in a few weeks. The walleyes will be gobbling up shiners again.

Hey Steve, the water is open down south of town now. I am not sure how far, but it sounds like the water is up a little. We were out there fishing the Ft. Thompson area about 10 days ago. Good bite for 15-19 inchers. My dad and uncle are out there today. Sounds like the marina on the east side of the river in town is ice free too. Cedar Shores should be good to go too. I think you guys will be plenty good all the way down to the south border. Once she starts to open, she goes fast. Time to get your jig rods ready.

Here guys. Here is the latest fishing report. You guys have it even before it hits our web site.

    Fishing Report 01-09-07

The fishing continues to be pretty good for walleyes and crappies. We are moving into a cold front period so it hard to say what will happen now. I know that we are making ice and we need it. Most lakes have 10-14 inches right now. Hopefully we will get enough for the big Brainerd Ice Fishing Extravaganza on January 20. If we get the 16 inches required we will be ready to rock here at the bait shop. It is always an exciting day. Lots of anglers will be winning big. As for the fishing we are seeing some big walleyes showing up during the overnight bite on Gull. Big Golden Shiners are starting to produce on set lines. Gull Lake and Pelican Lake are the best bets lately. Anglers are finding the walleyes in 20-30 feet of water. Crappie fishermen are enjoying the evening bite on many of our smaller lakes. Roy, Margaret, Upper Gull, Gladstone, and Love Lake have been good locations for slab crappies. Small glow jigs tipped with a maggot, small crappie minnow or a wax worm is catching crappies from 4:00-7:00 pm. Pike are hitting sucker minnows along the weedlines on Gull and Lake Edwards. Good Luck this week and stay warm!

We usually try to get in on the early ice here on Gull Lake, North Long, or Round Lake. But when shes ready it’s tough to beat Mille Lacs.

Great Report! We’ve had a great start to the season just as your report dictates. Hopefully this cold front is short lived.

Derek, I guess they are still working on the permit. So I’m guessing the date is not set in stone yet. I know that they had trouble getting it for Gull so that is one reason they are staying on Pelican. I’ll let you know as soon as I hear any news.

Hi Jason, this season the only walleye tournaments I’m aware of the area is the Walleye Alliance Tournament. It will be held again this fall on Pelican just like last year.

The jigging spoons pictured are JB Varmints and JB Weasles. They are both great on Mille Lacs. I also like Scenic Tackle’s Glo-Devils.

It is a great time, everyone has a chance to win an awesome prize. They payout one hundred fifty places, with prizes based on the biggest fish. Some years even rookies drive home in a new truck. They usually catch lots of fish in this contest. It runs from Noon-3:00 pm. If you guys are going to give it a whirl stop by before you head out. We hand out free contour maps of the contest area and have all the bait and supplies you will need to land the big one. Plus they have parking right accross the road from our shop, it is the closest parking to the contest area.

Hi Mike, nice job at Big Stone- so close! My best advice is to just fish the wind. Both Gull and Round should be good on the first weekend. I always like to find shallow weedlines and drag a Lindy rig and shiner or a jig and shiner. We also catch quite a few fish trolling raps on the shallow edges. Stop in and say hi again. We will be giving away free cookies to help anglers make it through the weekend.

The more fresh well water you can spray on them the better. Well water is always cold and keeps minnows pretty good, but in the heat of summer you will always loose a few.

Hi Fellas! Glad to be part of In-Depth Angling.com.

Fishing has been great, if you are chasing after bass. The walleyes are a bit on the slow side. Right now the eyes seem to be tucked into the weeds, which makes them a little tougher to catch. For action it has been tough to beat our bass fishing. I think that’s expected in July. I’ll keep fresh reports coming!

Good Going Bob! Sure was a fun tourney. We stunk it up and bombed on day 2 but were lucky enough to hold onto 7th. Can’t wait till next year. George and Linda run a great tournament.
