Great news for you Dan. Glad to hear it seems to be going in the right direction for you.
I know how it is myself. My cancer is going in the opposite direction though. Hard to stay positive when it starts to pile up and pain overcomes everything in your life. Hard to see light at the end of the tunnel, so to speak.
Good luck and I hope all future scans for you lead to the word “clear.”

I can imagine. I was diagnosed last August. Not had the boat in the water, or stepped foot in the woods since. Chemo, major surgery, radiation, and now probably back on chemo or imunotherapy again starting in May. It’s just a bad deal.
Tommy and his family have a huge battle in front of them. It totally consumes the entire family – and never ends. Knowing family and friends are praying, staying close, and reaching out to to help really makes a difference though. It’s a very helpless feeling otherwise. Stay positive Tommy!
Prayers to Tommy and his family.

Your open and close valves (2), if the same as my 2006 WX1880, close when you give them a twist. The problem is that the valve in each tank line is not sealing. They get full of silt and dirt very quickly and then never seal again. They are just not a very well designed valve. As I said, they’ll open and close via turning the switch (in Jakes pics), but the valves arn’t sealing when they close.
Once my boat was about 1 year old, neither of the 2 valves ever worked again. They both let water into the livewell/baitwell – even if closed. That’s just the livewell/baitwell water you see draining back out. Another easy way to verify – You’ll also see water draining “out” of your full livewell when the boat is on the trailer – even if/when the valve is closed.
Unless you want to change the actual valves in the lines to something better, get used to it.

As of 11 AM 4/12 Colville is wide open and parking lot was 70% full, Baypoint water is still frozen over in bay (no launching but parking lot is clear), and HokSiLa at north side of Lake City is wide open with boats launching this morning. The southern Lake City public ramp is still blocked by Pepin ice (no launching), but parking lot is clear. 2 Barges passed through Pepin today, 1 early around 7 AM and then another around 11 AM. Lake ice in Pepin is gone from head of lake to just south of Dairy Queen Point. From there south, its somewhat broken-up but non-navigational by regular fishing boat to the south yet.
River is otherwise ice free from the south end of Pepin to Winona today.

Call SBC. They can order an original switch and send it to you.
Remember, and I’m sure you know, long rods can/will reach up into to front bow wiring area and can sometimes mess with wiring up there.

I tie mine direct and don’t mess with swivels. I usually run 4 foot leaders and then re-tie if they get to about a foot long.

If the water is really high and dirty I might go without (especially if I break off). Otherwise I always run them. A couple weekends ago for FYB tournament on P4 I think the leaders were the reason I caught fish.

My go to is suffix 832 in 6# ghost white with an 8# floro leader.
    [/quote]

Once the river water gets dirty I always use braid when vertical or pitching jigs and I always tie braid direct. PowerPro High Vis Yellow #20. I do however, paint the hook-end line with a black sharpie for around the last 6 feet. I’ve used this set-up on inland lakes too and it works just fine.
If the river water is clear, as it usually is in February and early March, I use straight GAMMA #6 clear mono. It’s just too clear to use anything else this time of year. On Mono, I just fish it less aggressively – as compared to when I’m fishing braid. Then I’m just bull-doggin and rippen my baits/lures in and through where I want them to be. No worries about many break-offs when using braid and wire jigs (they just bend out). Works great on Rainy River too. ….Has worked great for me for many years now. No reason to to mess with a leader IMHO.

Thanks Mike. Just what I wanted to hear. Kind-of what I thought with all the melting too.

Personally, I always tie braid direct on the river when I can. Zeeubs and rocks rip you apart when pitching jigs otherwise.

Sticker. Im heading up again sunday for the week. Great report. Good to hear more birds are dropping down. I hear you on the young mans sport. We need 2 new young guys just to help. Bringing the whole load of decoys this time. Lots of work for 2. 2+ hours for 2 guys to set and pick up makes for a long day. Still looking forward to it though.

    Good hunting.

Sticker. Home now. Ducks seemed to have dispursed in the last 2 days. Hard to find. Lots of brown ducks on water, but malards have spead out and are hard to come by. We only hunt foelds. Some guys at hotel left early b/c of lack of birds. 2 of us limited on canadas and malards in 4 days but we had to work for ducks. Canadas are easy to come by. Still not many whites around that area yet. None south on the way back either. Malards were all young. None fully plumed yet. Still blue wings around too. 1st hard frost this morning. Skeeters buzzing me yesterday morning. Our hunt was great, but we have great territory with lots of water around. Good luck on your hunt. I’m going back for another week around the 15th. Im hoping whites amd northern birds are down by then. ????

Here now. Lots of canada geese, very few snows. Ducks are very plentiful but you have to locate them. Theyre not too far south yet according to co i spoke with today. Geese are grouping up into bigger flocks now too. Still teal and a lot of local birds. Im 45 miles west of brandon now.

Continued: I removed the cleats on both sides and installed the Trax over the cleat holes. I placed (black) rubber adhesive window wrap under the Trax – over the fiberglass cleat holes to make the holes water tight. Cut it to fit so you cant see it under the Trax. It will never leak underneath. That window wrap stuff will never come off either. Good stuff. I also used nylon shims/washers at each bolt, to hold the Trax level, and hold them up off the fiberglass boat fender a little. It works great.
    Good luck.

Mine’s an 1880. Same boat but older model. 2 – 12″ Trax. One cut down a bit shorter to fit the fuel cap area. I run Cannon Mac 5’s. I installed a 12″ x 3″ x 1/8 thick stainless plate on the underside. No problems whatsoever.

Don’t even get me started!! I just paid for my 1st quarter ’16 estimated taxes. After cutting those checks, it REALLY reminds me why I’m so totally fed-up with all this social free-for-all crap!

I’ve got one question for you guys. How do they taste?

I used my lab many times to retrieve shot crows. Like any trained hunting dog, she loved retrieving them, but boy did she spit them fast once she brought them back to hand. It was actually funny watching her force the thing back to me just to drop it quickly – unlike ducks, geese and pheasants. Even dogs don’t like the taste of them!

I bought a Minkota and a Humminbird from them last year. No problems – and best buy almost anywhere without tax/shipping.

Not going to debate buying local or not. That’s your choice. I just wanted to add that I also was able to use the Minkota mail in rebate last year when I purchased from Digital Oasis. Can’t beat that at many Internet retailers.
….And that they do have a warranty, but like all, generally refer you back to the manufacturer – which is where I would go directly anyhow.

So I picked up a DPMS Prairie Panther .223. Anybody have/shoot one ? Any ammo received better than others for this weapon ? So many questions I have, but figure I should lob some lead before I get too crazy on here… jester

I have the same gun. I shot American Eagle 55g FMJ’s for target practice and sight in out to 300 yards (Nikon P223 scope). For what I wanted/expected from that gun, they worked very well.
I then shot Hornady Rem .223 55g BT Spire Points and the 55g Winchester Silvertip Balistic’s to fine tune. Both bullets did very well in that gun out to 300 yards. I’ve never had reason to shoot beyond that – and if I did, I’d be using my .243 anyhow.
The latter two brands are what I use to hunt with in that gun. I tend to try and be a one shot type of guy, but I love the Silvertips and usually back-up the first 3 rounds of Silvertips with Hornady Spire Points to follow – for no other reason than it saves some money when dumping a clip at a running wide-open yote. Both of those rounds can drop a coyote it’s tracks very well though. A lot of guys that I hunt with use .223 Silvertips for hunting. They’re kind-of expensive to target shoot though. Good hunting!

Our yard has an Invisible Fence system. I’d like to know where the perimeter is, but it was installed by a previous homeowner, so I have no clue what areas are covered. All my Googling has lead me to is a way to locate a perimeter break using an AM radio. I assume this will also work to locate the perimeter, but it seems like it might take quite a while. Has anyone else found a better solution? (and no, I don’t currently have a collar that I can use, either)

I found a break in my fence twice doing exactly this. It actually works great. The radio tells you if you’re on/near the fence by emitting on type of sound and if/where the break is once you near it with another type of sound. …Pretty distinct too. It took me all of 15 minutes to round my entire 11,000 square foot yard. This little wire gimmick from Radio Shack connected to the earplug hole on the side of my old AM radio. Worked great!

One more tip: Know all the rules for crow hunting, because you will be stopped by a CO sooner than later. Most CO’s don’t read their own DNR Rules on hunting for crows. Most don’t remember seasons dates and most citizens don’t either, so you’ll get called on for hunting something out of season all the time. Many CO’s also don’t know the reg’s for blaze orange either. Many think you need to wear blaze orange while crow hunting. Crows are migratory birds. After being stopped, harassed and ticketed (more than once) for blaze orange requirements, we finally got a written letter from the head hunting enforcement guy in the main office at the MN DNR that says you do not have to wear blaze orange while crow hunting because they are migratory birds. We all now carry copies of that email letter and have had to show it several times to the CO’s. Most CO’s (and sheriff’s) don’t run into too many crow hunters, so when they do see you out there, they generally think you’re out doing something else (that’s illegal) and that’s how you’ll get treated in the first couple of minutes until they figure out what you’re up to. ….I guess I can’t blame them for that though.

I’ve hunted them A LOT for many years in MN. Most of the above info is accurate. Here’s two other pointers to always remember:
    1) Like ducks, they will generally come in from downwind – if the wind is strong. Locate your stand position for better shooting on the downwind side of your caller/decoys. Caller positioning consideration is critical for this pointer.
    2) ALWAYS hit the first bird that comes in. The first bird is the scout. They always send in one or two scouts before a larger heard flies in. If you don’t kill this bird, he’ll fly back and warn all others not to come by. Hard to believe, but very true. After you kill the scout, keep calling. The others will come to see what happened to Mr. Scout.
Two guy’s I hunt with keep Excel spread sheets on their hunts and log all kinds of details – just like fishing. The information is actually invaluable after many years of data. Good luck!

In the Red Wing area and further south to Wabasha area of the Mississippi, there are several cold water streams that empty to the Mississipi. These cold water areas will attract large Pike.

I swung for the fences this morning until mid/later day hitting these exact areas, tossing big pike/muskie baits of all kinds and colors all day. I had that exact game plan from the beginning Francis, but thanks for reinforcing it for me. I only had 2 quality fish follow it to the boat and make swings right by the boat, but no fish actually got to see the inside of the boat today. Didn’t find much flowing water from creeks into the river either – and had a harder time finding that cooler water as well. SE wind was driving all the lakes warm water into MN shoreline. Not many people out there for a Saturday so that was nice. Great day to be out on the water though. Although I didn’t score on anything today, I am going to give it another try very soon. I know those big guy’s are out there….
