Winchester stainless steel barrel with a cammo stock, with 100 grains and power builts. 265 grain I think. I bought my bullets in bulk (like 3 packs…I’ll be dead before they’re gone!)after I shot it and found what worked good for the gun, so i’m not positive on the bullet weight but i’m pretty sure. 3″ groups at a hundo, open sights (o/k they’re fluoroescent ones). shoots an inch or two high at 50. Triple 7 powder cuz I heard guns clean up much easier afterwords, but who knows about all of that.

I’ve always made a habit of pulling the breech, and taking them out nightly. If you sit all day during moist weather, you can see the difference in the pellet colors (I shoot triple 7). They kind of have a darker look near the edges toward the end of the barrel. I had a misfire after sitting a coulple of days in snowy weather, and that was the only fault I could find in the setup. I also remove the load every night to keep things consistent. I cringe at the thought of me, or someone borrowing my gun and double loading it (a little extreme yes, but it would be nasty). So after I pop the round out, if the powder looks iffy, I toss it, then I have to make up another excuse for missing the “big one”!
November 28, 2008 at 4:58 pm #44398I don’t know what kind of acerage you are hunting but if you haven’t tried a .17 hmr yet, your missing out. They are deadly accurate. You can literally just do head shots all day long. If you shoot for the vitals, sometimes you will almost cut them in half. Rabbits must have a softer hide because it almost looks like a crime scene if you shoot one of them. Savage sells for around 175 bucks so they aren’t to bad pricewise. Probably one of the funnest guns I own, they are that good.
November 28, 2008 at 3:24 pm #44393This should be a good example for all of us to how patient these mature deer can be to deer drives, and or people kicking through the woods. Grant it a combine is a little extreme, but their ability to avoid us is quite amazing when we think of it. We were pushing a small section of woods years ago, and we had our pushers about 30 yards apart. towards the end I could just make out something, it was a bucks antlers dropping. He wasn’t 20 yards from me and he was laying down with his head up. The movenent I seen was him dropping his head to the ground and hiding from us. A mere 20 yards away! They are smart as heck to say the least!
November 20, 2008 at 11:33 pm #43779Z told me that he could shoot a walnut out of a squirrels mouth at 40 yards. Maybe he is the guy I was looking for. He is he the guy the has a quiver that holds like 24 arrows, and can empty it in about 52 seconds right? Sphinx and him are planning a “shootout” at the batcave this weekend, that should be fun. See you there!
