Just out of curiosity- anyone have an idea on how much a 1992 Ranger 690 C with a 91 Evinrude Intruder 150 would have cost new? It not even on a Ranger Trailer.

Very good discussion on the last 8 or 9 posts!

    Thanks

My cousin built one for his Eskimo 949i and it was incredibly warm. He used scrap plywood and chip board he had in his garage and also insulated under it. It was super dry and warm inside the hub. Those were the pros.
    Cons-
    1) it was not very mobile at all. 2)it was fairly heavy. He would make multiple trips out to where he was setting up with his snowmobile so he needed to be close.
Changes I would make would be 1/4 plywood, 2×2 frame, Hinge 2 sections together and possibly some used down hill skies that could be bolted on and used to transport(I would figure out how to make them removable) the works all at once(kind of like a Schmitty sled). He had a couple of catch covers on one side and the other he had a plywood door- worked great.
I do not have any pics

I hold my rod most of the time but set it in the holder a fair amount. I also have the extensions on the holders and it is at a little more convenient height.

They are the best for Muskie fishing as well. Composite not plastic. Just remember to back off the drag when trolling. Don’t want to rip a bait out of a fish or break a rod.

In Lino Lakes, Anoka County, MN you need to have septic tanks pumped and inspected every 3 years. We put a mound system in back in 1997 and added 2 1000 gallon tanks after our existing 1500 gallon tank. The last one is for the lift pump into the mound system.

In reading the earlier posts. 1) the previous owner probably has had the same issue. 2) I believe in getting some professional help. Its a shi**y deal (pun intended) but worth it to never worry about it- remember the Winter is coming any more issues will only become harder to deal with.

The heavy plastic toboggan is a really good tool to help with getting your deer out of the woods.
The one I have is about 5 feet long and 20 inches wide. you can tie the deer to the sled with paracord and with the heavy rigid plastic sled it slides up and over logs and holes.
The other great thing about using a sled is that you do not drag the hair off of your deer if you are lucky enough to get one that you may want to mount.
I have seen them in Camo, Orange and Blue at hardware stores and even Menards. They run $45. My sled is 15 years old and in great shape.

Do not use the flimsy $20 sleds that you see around.

    Good Luck

Get the Topper- Winter is here!

I bought a new Chevy truck in February and did not order a topper till early June. The topper took a few extra weeks to come in after ordering it (2 months total). I love it. My last 2 vehicles have been Suburbans but went back to a truck this time. Before that I had a 91 Dakota with the aluminum topper with racks, tip up windows and crank out screens. It was very functional that way. I often took that topper off.
My new topper is an ARE (fiberglass) and I went with the tip up Windoors(w/screen slider). The fit and function of the locks and latches is awesome. I love the topper and the side access is helpful to really load it up. before the topper we used Rubbermaid tubs and so forth. It was kind of a pain.
The new trucks are so tall that it makes reaching in a little difficult. I bought a metal pole with a hook on the end and it really helps to slide in and reposition boxes and coolers.

    Good luck

    Sorry Dylan,
I am no help here. In MN you varying types of public land. You have county and state owned land in many parts of the state. You also have designated Wildlife Management Areas(State owned) and Federal Waterfowl Production Areas.
To get a better understanding of the law and what is open to public hunting and use of ATV or other things you need to read the MN DNR 2020 hunting regulation guide.
California I do not have a clue.

    Good Luck

    nitrodog,
    Check with R E E D S Sporting goods.

I bought 2 Browning X-Bolts in a special Synthetic Stock w/ a blued barrel. One is a 270 Win that is lights out… the other is a 7mm-08 and I think the nut behind the trigger is a little jumpy and I cannot group like that 270 Win. Both are super smooth actions w/ a detachable composit magazine.
    The 270 has a 24″ barrel and the 7mm-08 is a 20″ Barrel.

On a gun broker site they go by a different name. I think I paid $450 each for the gun but I bought 2. I think they were $499 I put Vortex scopes about $125 each and they are really solid guns.

    Good luck

Is it just me or should the legislators be completely out of this discussion. The original law was set in place by the DNR. To many times lately every group is running to the legislators to get laws changed or pushed down on the DNR.
I think we need to have a DNR that has less stuff forced upon them from legislation and time for them to make the correct calls. I know that the DNR has a lot of skeptics but a strong commissioner should be able to set a good course. Of course they need to be accountable.

    Just something to chew on.

opened a can of worms I think with this comment

I have a Mercury Smart Craft Tachometer. I is awesome. It tracks temp, voltage, hours and also has the smart troll for bumping the rpms up or down.

    It also tracks fuel used.

Currently my favorite panfish rods are the High End Shakespear Crappie Hunter 9′ model. Available at fine stores like L&M Supply for around $35 including a reel. I got lucky after buying 1 I was able to put some fish in the boat right away. I decided to splurge and buy another when I found a couple on clearance for $22. Love the long length.
Now I use higher end stuff for Walleyes and Muskie but these are my favorite panfish rods – by far. I would like to try a higher end long rod but these are disposable if they fall apart. So far they are holding up great. Nothing but the finest plastic inserts in the rod guides.

I primarily use a weighted bobber and small VMC jigs with a variety of plastics.

Try a long rod you may like it.

yes the Newest Bluetooth versions of the Terrova and Ulterra use the heading sensor- but the way the motors process the signals for spot lock is also improved.
I have the New version of the Terrova and my biggest problem is the trolling motor head wrapping the cord around itself. It seems to catch itself on the lift assist.

first off how big of a boat?

My dad and uncle had 2 put in like 30 years ago and I have never been impressed. 1) I believe they winches were undersized. 2) The supports for the boat was terrible. a nice cradle like the new lifts all have would be a lot better. 3) There is no real weight rating system like when lifts are manufactured. 4) How many of these has your builder done?
I know for a fact that the ramps my dad and uncle had done were done on the cheap. It may be worth it to spend better money on something like this.

Lake Vermilion has some really nice boathouses 10 feet from the water with nice ramp systems into them. I am not familiar with them so I cannot comment on that system. I would be very interested in that setup if it was built properly- drive the boat onto the trailer/ cart and hit the remote. That would be awesome.

Do you homework and ask if you can get some references. Can you see some that were done 5-10 years ago and what the owners like or dislike. Would they make any changes?

The positive would be no installation and removal fees for boat lifts. On Lake Vermilion they are like $200 a year.

    Good luck

I went the cheap route for awhile and now have Knipex cutters.

The true value of the Knipex would be in buy them once. The $7 HF may deform after cutting a few #7 hooks. I still have my old cheap mini bolt cutters but the true ease that the Knipex cuts hoods is nice in an emergency. I have seen 2 guy’s hooked by fish and the knipex cut the hooks instantly.
I think some models are around $37 but check the Muskie Hunter merchandise for the price.

    Good luck

I have had 2 different Micro-disketomeys at the C5/6 and C6/7 4 years apart. the first one was for pain running down my left arm and the 2nd was for my right arm. Other symptoms were migraine headaches associated with the herniated disks.
the first surgery went fine- I was told that they removed a piece of disk about the size of a pea. I always seemed a little discouraged on the results but over time the flare ups and migraine headaches were further apart. after about 8 months I would only have an occasional flare up and it would be short lived.
The second one was a much larger piece of disk about the size of a quarter- recovery was much longer–I had numbness in my thumb and first two fingers that was not there before the surgery. This was due to the size of the piece they ended up removing and all the crap it was touching and irritating.
Now 2 years later the numbness is less but still there. I still have flare ups and they are getting further apart.
I wish you well in your recovery but that part is discouraging at times. Hopefully you will slowly come around and no further issues will arise.

guy’s are running Headlocks and Mattlocks on short line behind planer boards. on the shallow settings I believe they have about a 3:1 dive curve but sometimes they are only on 6 ft of line. 18 ft behind the board should be your 6 feet.
Where are you looking to use the shallow running baits? There are lots of baits that run shallow out. Check out Thorne Bros website for crankbaits.
Many spinner baits run less than 6 ft trolled. Even inline bucktails can be trolled shallow and it can be highly effective.
If you can give us some more specific ideas many guy’s can give you some input.

    Good Luck

My parents have a place on the West end between Head O Lakes Bay and Wakemup Bay where I have spent the last 50 + years. I don’t target walleyes much after Memorial Day.
I will try to do some basic differences on the East vs West ends.
West end has struggled the last 15 years with walleye young of the year showing up in the fall creel surveys. The walleye size structure is larger fish than the East end. Several guides I know on the West end take their clients East to catch the limit then fish West to catch large slot fish.
East End has been affected by the Rusty crayfish and most weed beds have been decimated East of Oak Narrows and they have been working West affecting Niles bay as well.
On the West end you can find many weed lines. Bays and sandy shorelines hold nice cabbage.
There are growing numbers of Largemouth bass on the West end and good smallmouth on both basins.
The West end has growing numbers of panfish-Crappies are becoming more common along many weedy bays and large schools have been seen in open water- untouched by most.
Muskies are prevalent on both ends and the numbers are way down compared to 7 years ago. Rocks, Weeds and open water can produce fish on both ends. I hear fish tend to run heavier on the West end but I cannot confirm that.
Both Spring Bay Resort and Whispering Winds Resort on the far West end have nice cabins and great docking. Jeremey at WW and Steve at SB can point you to good fishing spots.
I strongly recommend the Breakfast at Life o Riley in the back of Norwegian Bay. Bring cash.

    Good Luck

    Fishthumper,
Have you tried one of the 9, 10 , 12 foot rods for panfish. They are a gas… I saw my neibors 9’00” Shakespeare Crappie Hunter rod and reel combo in his garage and kind of chuckled. I stopped at L and M in Cloquet on the way north one weekend and bought one ($25.00) on sale- easily my favorite rod for fishing crappies with a bobber 4 or 5 feet deep. The bobber twitches and a long sweeping hookset takes up the slack perfect every time. Also enough give in the rod that you can’t set the hook too hard. I actually bought 2 more of them on clearance for $22.00 I liked it so much. The fight is like on a fly rod.
Now I want to try a higher end long rod and quality reel.

    Good Luck on you search

    Steve
