Yeah, it was a great time…..we probably caught another 150+ fish just like these. It was a blast. Just kept enough for a couple meals.

It was good fishing, golfing and card playing. Came out on the short end of the poker playing though. Ate some fresh fish there, and brought enough home for a meal. You just couldn’t beat it.

One would have to eat fish 3-4 times a week to see the effects of mercury, etc. from the fish. We’ve heard these tales for years and to let that stop you from eating fresh fish is foolish . They say childbearing females are supposed to eat fish for the omega-3. Do you honestly believe that processed BS frozen fish from the store isn’t packed with all sorts of extra junk? It’s one thing to restrict eating fish from say the river during the “dog days” of the summer but this is another story.

First of all, I would describe someone as being foolish, when they choose to belittle someones personal choice as to what they choose to consume, or where they get it from. I don’t think I really deserve any crap about where I choose to get fish to eat or not….my main point was that I never truly feel necessary to take any fish out of the Zumbro to take home. Doesn’t mean I won’t at some point, but I was merely offering my perspective that not everyone that blazes a trail to the lake because of the publicity and hot bite, necessarily hurts the population.

And, I realize that everything the MDH puts out isn’t necessarily the gospel, but I do know that a lot of fish, especially predatory species, contain higher levels of mercury, etc. So, I sometimes choose to err on the side of caution when it comes to someone specifically making a point to say “you might not want to eat this.”

I just don’t usually make time for cleaning fish, so I don’t attempt to take any home, more for that reason. I like to catch fish, not necessarily eat them, and in the process I preserve the fishery.

I am now stepping off my soapbox……thank you.

Well, I can say that I have never taken a fish home from Lake Zumbro ever, although I have been tempted.

My research from the MDH told me that the Zumbro watershed had high levels of toxins, lead, mercury, etc. No female in her childbearing years should eat fish from the river or lake, and all others should limit themselves to one meal a month. That seemed to tell me I didn’t really nead to clean anything that I caught. Is this information false???

I eat my fish from Hy-Vee….. -) Maybe it isn’t any better?

Boy, I would like to go, but I have to work. I have been trying right below the Silver lake dam about 100 yards…….with limited success….. a couple bass there a few weeks ago, but it is shallow. Lots of carp and suckers in there though….watched a guy fly-fishing catch a few of those, as well as some small bass.

Where do you usually go, I have wanted to try farther up by west river parkway?

    Hey!

Thanks much for a head’s up on the locations to fish…..I actually don’t live too far from the Broadway Bridge @ 14th Street. I might have to check that out when I just have an hour or so to make a few casts.

    Thanks for all the info…..

Thanks for all the info guys…..yeah, sounds like Willow Creek Resivoir might be bank fishin’for me…….to large of a boat to launch in there I think.

Chesterwoods and Zumbro will probably me my most frequented spots.

For anyone interested, if you spot a maroon and gray runabout with a 75 merc….and a young guy with a cigar….that’s probably me.

    Stop by and say hi……

    Thanks,

    Hey,

Thanks guys….I was thinking I might drop in out at Chesterwoods and check out the bluegill and crappie action sometime soon.

Anyone that has any info on Willow Creek Res…..please let me know…..I would like to drop my boat in there is possible and check out the panfish.

Any of you guys fish in the city limits on the Zumbro? Any ideas where to go? Sometimes I don’t have time to take the boat out, but a little bank fishing would be cool. I hear some people catch pike and smallies in the river, somewhere in town, but I don’t really know where to really access the river, other than off of broadway and maybe up by 41st street and West River road.

    Thanks,

    Dave

I am fairly new to the Zumbro river area, especially in the city limits…….

What areas are most likely to produce pike and bass?

North end of town?? I have seen some cars alone West River Road past 41st Street NW. Just not sure what people are fishing for there…….

Any general location info would be appreciated……there just aren’t many people that I personally know who fish the Zumbro…..or any of the areas ponds and streams.

I have heard of some good pike action on SR-2. East of town on Silver Creek road……but access is difficult and you get ticketed for parking on the road.

    Thanks in advance….
