Average size of a bear shot is 190lbs according to my taxidermist so I say that’s about right, 175-190.
October 20, 2010 at 8:40 pm #89374The first is where he got his name . He disappeared about this time last year and then I got him again around Christmas. You can see he busted off the extra main beam.
October 8, 2010 at 6:10 am #88043I ended up going with the Rem 700 with a Scheels scope. I’ll use it for yotes this winter. If Tia sticks with the sport then she’ll probably get her own some day before she leaves home. At the very least the gun and pics will give some boy a little reserve before he messes with her (and her Dad ).
September 23, 2010 at 4:30 am #86269The deer herd was just fine before TT(Tommy Thompson) made the DNR Secretary position an appointed one, no idea why. Just ask George Meyer our last one appointed by the Conservation Congress. Not sure the exact numbers but we had like 3 over 30 years and now 3 or 4 over 6 years. The current one came from the corrections department not the DNR. That makes sense to who? Apparently Jim Doyle. So both parties contributed to the problem. It’s not a problem of which party, it’s a problem of which party is in power at the time. It should at least be someone with wildlife/conservation/environmental background and preferrably someone who’s at least held a fishing rod/gun or bow in their lifetime (not just for a photo op.)
September 23, 2010 at 4:18 am #86267Had a hunt with an outfitter in Illinois 2 years ago that had a professional tracker in his camp with 2 dogs. He shakes his head at scentlock. Says his best dog could find any hunter in scent lock and that deer smell better than his dog. He did comment that scentlock forces you to do a better job of TRYING to be as scent free as possible. Play the wind.
January 3, 2010 at 7:51 am #74358Shoot on wednesday night at Mouldy’s. Myself, Shawn Marozi and a neighbor from your neck of the woods- Wayne Foster.
December 31, 2009 at 10:16 am #74131Thanks for the advice. I’m thinking of going out for the first time also. What are the best calls this time of year?
December 31, 2009 at 10:06 am #74129Unbelievable- the giraffe seems almost pet-like. Don’t know if I could/would drop one of them. OK I guess I would.
December 31, 2009 at 10:04 am #74128My old girl got into some poison this fall at the cabin and ended up at the vet after driving northern Wis for 5 hours looking for one . I feel your pain- thoughts and prayers for your dog. Let us know how it turns out.
December 29, 2009 at 8:53 am #73875If I was out there and had a doe tag I think I would pile her up, tough call indeed. I know the food pantry’s are hurtin’ for venison this year like a lot of people. Might be a good opportunity to get them one.
December 29, 2009 at 8:25 am #73873I have the same cam also. Takes good pics if they are standing over a corn pile on the golf course behind my house. Otherwise if she doesn’t mind, I would look at others. She’ll enjoy watching you get pictures more too and like the results herself from many other cams.

Congrats on a successful late season muzzleloader hunt! Good pictures too!

December 29, 2009 at 8:14 am #73871One of the greatest reasons to hunt late season is so you can get fired up for the next. Sounds like you have plenty to look forward to!!
December 29, 2009 at 8:11 am #73870Always good when you can laugh at yourself . Been there done that, and you just shake your head and go on. Good luck if you get in one last hunt. I’ll be out there next weekend- sooner if we get a big chill.
December 29, 2009 at 7:59 am #73869Nali the 11 year old yellow lab had not been out for a few years. We got her in the woods a couple days this year and even with a bad shoulder her eyes lit up and you would have thought she was 3 again. Got her back to the cabin and she commanded the couch but with a waggin tail from every approach. Gotta love em’
December 25, 2009 at 3:19 am #73509I posted all my daily results throughout the season then sent in a year end opinion. I got nuttin’ back. I sent the year end in to every DNR e-mail I could find. They better do something different fast or I’ll have to just grouse hunt that week of gun season in northern Wisconsin.
December 11, 2009 at 4:51 am #71939I’ve had some great days bowhunting the late season. Bring along plenty of heater packs to increase your comfort level and time on stand. With the snow it is a truly amazing and unique experience when you see a deer moving through the landscape. Stick to the food sources and trails to them.
Besides, that’s like asking is it too hot to golf!!December 11, 2009 at 4:45 am #71938Beautiful new friend! My girl is going on 11 and still waggin her tail and chasin chipmunks!
