Thanks everyone, talked to the local HVAC guy and he is going to order me a 45000btu reznor. Should have it installed by next week, just in time for me not to have to freeze my hands off while cleaning fish in the winter anymore!

As Captain said, did not find the arrow which obviously can tell a lot. He did find a little white hair at shot site. It appeared bleeding both sides, which indicates pass through but thinking is possible brisket shot, slice it open which would make it look like it’s a pass through. It did sound like they kicked it up once and found blood where it was bedded. The bottom mark on picture is property he was hunting. The top picture is last known drop of blood, which was about the size of sharpie point. The tracking dog picked up trail across the road from that mark but that didn’t have permission yet to access but did gain it. Six of us went into outlined property looking and the island on top of picture. Did not find any blood once it crosses the road. If it kept going to the North and hit the open fields who knows where it went from there with no blood to follow. Would have been interesting if they could have kept going with the dog. I do know I wish I could hunt the property we were pushing sign everywhere! He did all he could, it sucks but as you all said, tough SOBs!

Dang that’s a bummer for sure. I actually grew up just a few miles west of there, some very nice properties right around that area! Hopefully it was not fatal and your buddy gets another cracked at him. I’ll be in a tree all day tomorrow so I’ll be sure to report back.

Thanks for the responses everyone. I picked up a roll of poly this afternoon. One last question.. I had already stapled the paper facing to the studs, instead of tearing all the facing off would it be ok to just slice gashes in the paper with a utility knife and poly over? Or would you just recommend tearing all the insulation off, taking the paper off the batts, and re hang them?

Would you guys poly even over the insulation that is faced or just the unfaced stuff?

    DO NOT SKIP THE POLY

No reason to use poly if you are covering with steel and OSB soon.
I am not a fan of sealing moisture and potential moisture in walls, the better it can breathe will help in the long run. Unless you are worried about wind penetration, I’d save my time and money.

Mark, thanks for the reply. I should also add that I do plan on putting up a hanging heater as well. Even with the space being heated, would you still recommend not placing poly? Thanks!

Little update on my plot that started this thread. I ended up spraying with roundup in mid July. Waited 2 weeks and sprayed again to get a good kill since it was quite thick. On Monday night, I mowed the perimeter with my litte lawn mower to make a fire break and Tuesday night I burned off the plot. The burn went very well and took care of almost all the litter. The wheat and rye that got burned dropped so many seeds, not sure if they will germinate after being exposed to the fire though? I plan on waiting until we have some rain in the forecast and broadcasting my rye, wheat, and oats and packing it. Hoping to have seed down by September 1..

Yeah it would be either a pull behind brush hog or I have used a 3 point mower before. Thanks for the advice!

Yes, looking to plant wheat and rye again. I did do a small piece of brassicas last year and not once did I see a deer browsing them. I didn’t plant them until late August though so they were very immature still. The wheat and rye had virtually no weeds in them last time I visited it (December). It was planted thick- probably 300lbs per acre and layered. Will cutting it leave too much residue to disc effectively? I just have access to a small disc that seems to get clogged easily if there is too much litter. Would burning it work well if I was able to get a burning permit? I am 20 miles north of st cloud, you don’t think it’s too early for cereal grains? Thanks!

Any recent reports on Kab? Water temps/water levels? I am heading up there Friday for a bachelor’s party and hoping to get into some fish!

Yep, the only thing that is holding him back which is ridiculous appears to be the color of his skin, same goes for Bienemy. He is qualified to be a head coach. Its actually frustrating that he hasnt gotten a gig yet. Good for us because he should be a great hire.

He was the head coach in Miami for 3 years..

100% hybrids. The smallest one directly below the beer can is a bluegill. You can tell by the little bit of red on the opercular flap/ ear tab and the pattern on the lower jaw as huntindave mentioned. The striping is also different on the hybrids.

Wife shot her target buck last night at around 4:40. Buck was locked down with a doe and wouldn’t let her into the food plot, kept pushing her back into cover. He stepped into a clearing at 110 yards and the rest is history! Double lunged with a Savage 220 and one of the 3 remaining Accutips we have between the both of us🙃

Congrats to the young lady. Beautiful buck!. Looks to have some decent body size too.

Yeah honestly the body was more impressive than the rack, haven’t put it to a scale yet but it’s well over 200lbs dressed. She is 20 weeks pregnant so I was fortunate enough to do most of the dragging/lifting haha. Having the inlaws Ranger definitely was a huge help once we got it out of the swamp to the field edge. Thanks everyone, the call and texts from her last night were priceless!

I use to shoot them accu tips also and I found the hornady sst slugs with the red tip were just as accurate for me

I’ve tried them through my gun and it seemed like 3 or 4 slugs out of 5 would be perfect and the others would be flyers. I bet I burned through 5 or 6 boxes trying to sight it in before I said heck with these things.

    Brian G-
I went to the link but it appears I can’t buy direct from them. Says something like contact your local ammo dealer for availability. I did email them to see what the status is on them though..

I did not look very hard because I shoot the Winchester 20ga pumpkin balls, but the General Store/ Guns Galore in Osakis had a pretty good selection of slugs including 20 gauge.

If per chance they have them and you have no need to go otherwise, my land is near by and I can grab them for them for you if you are in the Twin Cities.

I will give them a call tomorrow, I’m only about an hour from osakis. Thanks for the info!

    3.5 years old

I’m thinking you are right. Wife says if he walks by her, she is sticking him. I think I’m giving him a pass this year. He was still in velvet 2 nights ago but starting to peel. Can’t wait to get in the tree again!

Saw a buck this morning shedding its velvet. It was small and nowhere near my house, so no pic (Jeremy jester ).

First hard horn showed up last night and I’m guessing the rest won’t be too far behind!

Anybody on here good at aging deer on the hoof? I have a good one who keeps showing up every few days but still don’t know if he is mature. 3 1/2 or 4 1/2, what do you think? He could be a freak next year..

Well after quite a bit of research, I have decided to give wet sanding and buffing a shot. Looks to be a lot of work but hopefully the end result is worth it! I found a company called Pro Tec Products and am going with their restoration products. Wish me luck!

They will grow but need heat and moisture.. Put a jar over one and leave the others left alone. If it is getting cool at night and no rain the one with the jar will double growth of the other one!!

Dont forget, they are all one inch at one time. They will grow!! I will be back to check on the ones I left yesterday and am confident they will be 2-3 inches easy.

    Buschman-
I’ll have to try the mason jar thing next time I find some. I think that could work! Any report on the ones that you left?

Ok Slabz, I’ve been wrong before so I hope you report back and let us know if they did or didn’t grow anymore.
I’d leave the smaller ones if I thought they’d grow more but every time in the past, they did not even with plenty of heat/rain.

Now that I think about it, buckybadger had a buddy leave some too and was going back later to see if they grew.
Bucky did you’re buddy give you a report?

Went back last night and I picked them all, 262 of them to be exact. After 2 days of sitting, I would say there was little to no growth but that is just me eyeballing them. Granted the weather was cooler and fairly dry and the gray ones usually do not get very big anyways. Tough to say unless I actually measured them before and after.

I found about 45 last night. Picked 30 of them and left a few small ones to grow. A few I found in a sunny area were just about to old to pick. I caught them right in time so they have been up in some areas that I look for a week or so. I should be pretty good this next week here in the Metro for blonds/yellows.

I found about 100 little grays last night and most were very small, 1/2″ to an inch probably. My great grandpa once told me that they will not grow anymore after they pop. Any truth to that? I feel like I have left them for a few days in the past and when I came back, they were not any bigger. I did leave these but I have my doubts they will be bigger when I go back.

will be interesting to see what Avs team shows up tonight against the Blues…would relieve alot of pressure if the Avs can beat the Blues and the Wild beat the Coyotes…having a 1 game cushion is everything with the final 2 against the Flames and Avs…then if they could also beat the Flames it allows a rest game for alot of guys…

Huge games tonight for home ice in the 1st round. If the Wild win and the Blues lose in regulation, Minnesota needs to get only one point over the last two games to lock in home ice. Saddle up everyone, it’s going to be a wild ride over the coming weeks!
