I think they are incredible technologies for sure…but they may force fish limits to be lowered. Days when going out and getting just a few fish, or half a limit are dwindling for people using live scope. When full limits are easily taken the population will certainly decrease, so more fish will need to be stocked and/or limits reduced to keep the fish population healthy. I see guides using them day after day with large groups and all 10 people plus the guides are keeping full crappie limits…and finding fish in areas no one else is even fishing. And I’ve heard walleye guides during interviews talk about how in the past it would take an entire day to do their “milk run” to catch client’s limits, now with livescope it takes less than a half day so they can take 2 groups out per day and get limits for both groups in one day.

Wonder if either or both will continue playing or just hang up the skates?

I don’t wear a mask, haven’t gotten vaccinated, haven’t changed my life because of covid. I had a mild cold that started 2 weeks ago. Got tested because work wants us to. Positive! Worked from home for a week and a half per guidelines. It felt like a mild cold. People are way too scared. The media is the common problem in a lot of situations. They take a little problem/non problem and blow it up.

Yes because if we have learned anything about Covid so far is that it effects every single person in exactly the same way….. “hey everyone rjthehunter just had a mild cold. stop everything right now and open it all back up. false alarm.”

My younger brother got it and ended up on a Vent for a week, then oxygen at home for a month and 3 months later still can’t get back to full work due to shortness of breath…his Wife got it too and hardly realized it and was back to work in 10 days. Family friend got it and was in Hosp for 3 months and will be on oxygen for the rest of his life…totally destroyed his lungs.

Another black man that couldn’t follow the law ends up dead. Quit breaking the laws and you won’t get shot!

LOL…just another racist white man spewing hatred…the officer thought she was using her Taser which would have been the appropriate use of force. What about all the people who broke the law and stormed the Capitol and killed a Cop and inured other Officers…should they have been shot on site; probably not since they were 99.9% non-black people? We don’t just shoot people for breaking the law in this country Crappieguy. My guess is you probably think Derek Chauvin should get a medal for his overuse of force on George Floyd. Be smarter next time Crappieguy.

Many of my spots that used to just have a few of us fishing have turned into 100 house crappie villages… plus the portable weekend warriors so it’s useless on weekends with all the traffic/noise; have to go there on weekdays and find new spots on weekends. One other observation this year….seems like the fish are more tied to low light level feeding times only (early morning or evening) when in the past I have found some good day bites here and there…not happening this year for me.

I’m a panfish guy, mostly crappies; and have many “spots” I have found over the years. About a half dozen of my spots normally are good day bites but this year every spot I have is early in the morning and from 4:30 on in the evening only…no daylight bite….and they are biting later into the night too. A little bummed the day bites have disappeared for me and hope it’s just a one year thing or maybe with more snow it would bring back that day bite.

I’m really torn with this newer technology….how is all this going to affect fish populations, will this make taking limits by the masses easier, will limit numbers need to come down, etc? The times I’ve been out with friends who have the panoptix it makes it so easy to locate and catch fish, and when in groups we all limit out quite easily and had we not had a guy with panoptix pointing us to the fish we probably would have caught fish anyway…but not all limits; or does the DNR calculate needs with the idea catch rates are at limits? It is awesome technology that will continue to even get better but…..

They take a while longer than normal to get down to the fish…good for shallower spots, not so good in deeper basins IMO…tried a couple on Red this past weekend and no takers which surprised me.

I only use it for ice fishing but still have my H2Oc with the LM chip and well over 200 Waypoints but it takes forever for the unit to find My Location now. Does anyone know how to save those waypoints in a file and transfer to a newer unit?

Some people fish for fish. Some people just fish for #attention.

Agree to a point but Aaron does not post many vids throughout the year but when he does they are top notch…and he’s very educational…I’m sure he’s quite embarrassed. Also, there are some people who seem to know him and they elude to some issues he’s having and Aaron skirts around it with some comments…wonder if he has an ailment or some family issues of some sort…personally he’s my fav YT’er.

When I go solo I use my one man Clam Pro Thermal and if I go with another one or two guys I use my Otter Thermal Pop Up…I carry both in my rig just in case I am out and someone calls and wants to join me. If you have the room carry both IMO.

Gas motors last years and years as batteries typically do not. I like having a 2 stroke auger knowing they will always be there. Carbs are simple. Keeping gas from spilling is simple. Electric is nice but not my style for bigger holes.
    [/quote]

If you are talking 10″ holes to drill out a spearing hole or something I get it but I have used the same two batteries since day one, drilled thousands of holes with 8″ and never had an issue with not having enough room for walleyes, crappies, or large Pike…plus I guarantee you a battery operated Auger will outlast any gas engine…no parts plain and simple. I ran an Eskimo Gas Augers before moving to my ION and it is not even close as far as dependability, less costly per hole drilled, no warm up needed, overall weight, just pull the trigger and instantly cutting, in an Ice Castle no fumes, etc etc. You could give me a Gas Auger for Free and I wouldn’t want it. StrikeMaster makes superb Battery operated units as well. But to each his own.

Not sure it even makes sense to invest in gas…I’ve seen a few of the original lithium ION units on CL and other sites for $200-$250…I’ve had mine since year one with no problems, I drill plenty of holes daily, very light, and with extension it works fine in a hard house to re-drill as well. No worries about starting, gas spills, carb issues etc. Plenty of inexpensive Battery operated options these days…all seem to be quite solid and have been around quite a while now.

This team won’t be consistent until the financial situation is righted and a few of the bad contracts are gone.

I have had the Marcum LX-7 since they came out, completed the upgrades over the years, bought the Lithium Shuttle and I have loved it but am seriously now considering the Garmin Panoptix just because I’ve seen others use it and it is unbelievable, especially for crappies when fishing with a group and one guy running the unit hollering out…”bunch 40ft over at 2 oclock 15 ft down, another bunch at 6 oclock in 35 ft at 25 ft down”…getting too easy in some respects…this will drive limits down IMO, already seeing lower panfish limits in place for this year in my area…which is good.

Bjugstad is coming off back surgery this summer so only time will tell…he really has not lived up to his potential IMO….but he will better than Koivu in a 3rd or 4th line roll.

Filet Mignon (med rare) covered in a Gorgonzola/Mushroom Sauce at Alessia’s in Mesa AZ. I have never taken so long to eat a steak in my life….I savored every bite and can’t wait to go back.

When the water starts running down old holes, cracks, and down hills/cliffs into the the lake and providing nutrients and oxygen is when I have my best crappie fishing in my area….I love late ice fishing. No need to fish only during the witching hours as it becomes an all day feeding frenzy as they migrate towards their spawning areas. Learned long ago the story about drawing a line from their deep basins to the spawning areas and just drill along the way is true. Find points and structure along the path and then finally early sprouting weeds in shallow and you will be on crappies right up to ice out.

Slot limits would definitly be a good idea.

We have crappie slots along with limit reductions on some lakes in my area and that has really helped keep the population up over the years. I am all for doing whatever to manage the resource as electronics have made it so much easier to find crappies and that Garmin Panoptix is incredible; makes it almost too easy. I was out over the weekend with a group and one guy working the Panoptix was able to point out where to drill and keep everyone busy catching crappies in every direction as we moved along.

I travel a lot by Air for work and I am a little paranoid now with being couped up with a bunch of people in such a small space. Have even thought about wearing a mask like the Chinese do. Until this incident I never thought about attracting a virus other than a cold maybe and that is just a part of life…but this Coronavirus is a whole new ballgame IMO.

I wonder how this season will affect Marcum & Vexilar, the 2 electronics mfgs who primarily focus on ice fishing, and then you have Clam and a few others based here in MN? I know in my area we have maybe 1/10th of the normal number of people out ice fishing this year. On lakes that normally have 100 permanent houses out there is 10, 200 normally and now only 20 and the portable fishing is way down too with no truck traffic for the most part and no roads plowed to “villages”. Unless ice fishing is booming in other ice belt states I’d say there’s not much electronics (and other stuff) being sold in year like this unfortunately.

Vexilar, Where will be marcum be in 10 years if you need support?

When is the last time you were able to update a Vexilar to add new features with an easy download off the internet like you can with Marcum? When was the last time Vexilar put out a new unit…do they even have a true all Digital product? I’ve never had any issue with my LX7 and I am on my 5th year…I did upgrade to the Lithium Shuttle Case (another great Marcum product) and it made the good LX7 great…so light, rod holders, USB Port, light built in. Over the years my friends have moved to Marcum as well. My guess is my next move will be to the Panoptix which from a Digital standpoint is a big step up from the Marcum Digital Units but quite spendy. With the ice conditions around the state…the snow issues…not many people out ice fishing.. I don’t think any of these Vendors are selling much product unfortunately.

So far the only people I’ve heard say Vegas wants a hometown boy are people here. I haven’t heard Vegas say “Man if we only had a hometown boy”! You might be over estimating Zucker’s worth to what Vegas thinks he’s worth hometown boy or not.

And if Vegas wanted him that badly Fenton had him on the block at the recent trade deadline…he was very close to being traded to Calgary for Frolik and a Draft pick.
I do still think he’ll be shopped before the new season but we may not find a taker depending on our demands in return….which I hope are higher rather than lower…he seems like a player who would fit in well with a younger/faster team like Fenton seems to be building…just wish Zucker was more consistent in all aspects…has shining moments…just too long in between those moments.

I’ve got Maple Leafs vs Stars for the Cup, think the Leafs will figure out a way to play a little defense and Stars with Zuccarello finally playing will pull it all together.

except has more size to survive the full season and playoffs…

I am glad someone else also realized Granlunds glaring issue…just look at his stats in March, April and Playoffs the last 3-4 yrs with the Wild….the guy goes AWOL. He just cannot take the beating of a full season I guess…in the 13 games with Nashville since the trade he has 1G, 3A and is a -6….we’ll see how he does in the playoffs.

Hit the range button and choose manual and then choose the depth 20, 40, 60 or whatever fits.

So strange to read about all these LX7/6 issues…I bought my LX7 six yrs ago and have not had one issue. The software upgrades have all worked flawlessly and I purchased the shuttle for it 2 years ago and that has been a nice improvement as well…..knock on wood I guess.
