Thanks guys, I will look into these two options.

I too have a rude that use to leak oil. I purchased mine new last year even though it’s e-tec 07 150 model. I was shocked when told it was normal for them to leak. Mine leaked out the front under the cowel and onto the steering link. It leaked about 1/2 teaspoon of oil after each outing. I was told that it was leaking from the area behind the air filter and not to worry about it. I had to have the oil pumped replaced after the first outing this year and the engine only has 21 hours on it. The leaking stopped after the new oil pump was installed, I don’t know if there was something loose before and now that it has a new pump it was tightened up or it was just a coincidence it stopped.
April 16, 2010 at 1:50 am #864272Sweet eye, grats on your PB. Hopefully I will get out on the water this weekend and see if I can get a PB on pool 12 also.
April 6, 2010 at 11:08 pm #861396My next motor will definately be a 4 stroke after my experience with etec’s. Maybe I just purchased a faulty etec, but this is the second time to the shop within 22 hours on the motor. I was informed a few hours ago that the oil pump went out and needs replacing. My concern is that by the time the warning buzzer went off, was there motor damage already? I do have the 5 year warranty but being down a week or two at a time is a real pain. After $10,000 you would think it would have been several hundred hours before a breakdown. Go for the 4 stroke…regardless of make or model. Just my 2 cents.
March 8, 2010 at 3:25 pm #850639I recently purchased a new 2007 Etec 150hp. I would think they would have a plate for a common motor like that. Thanks for the tip.
March 8, 2010 at 2:32 pm #850595Thanks Jon, great info on the post. I think I may end up going to cabelas and pick one up this week and have my boat mechanic install it on my motor when he brings it out of winter hybernation next week. I am experiencing the same issues of as others have and think it may help. I am thinking of getting the sport clip so no holes have to be drilled. I am not sure if drilling holes will void the manufacturers warranty of the motor. Thanks again for the link, it was just the info I was looking for.
March 8, 2010 at 1:09 am #850458Thanks for the positive note. I will keep it and mount it up front. I will primarily use it for the depth finder part and not so much for the fish finder. Just need something to tell me depth. Thanks
September 28, 2009 at 1:03 am #790291Thanks for the info. I was planning on fishing by the footbridge in Algoma and maybe off the peirs along the lake somewhere. I haven’t been in the area in years and was hoping someone could give a good tip on some spots to fish. I won’t have much time to look for spots so if anyone has any tips, let me know please. Thanks and hope to hear from some of you soon.
August 12, 2009 at 1:16 am #796819Thanks for the inputs. I have a mississippi map that I calculate mileage from the mileage markers. I run upstream 2 miles to the marker and fish for walleyes. After fishing the wingdam, I then run back downstream to a catfish area and try for cats. The mileage is 2 miles up, 9 miles down to my other spot and then 7 miles back to my docking area. Like I said, I use a river map and put in a certain amount of gas each time. Each time I return I have the same amount of gas in tank (visual inspection). I am running 5000-5200rpms and traveling at approx. 60mph on the speedo. It is going into the shop this week for error codes so I will ask the tech to see if it is nearly broken in. Oil I use is XD50. Idle time on the motor is very little since I use the trolling motor for fishing. Thanks
July 10, 2009 at 9:38 pm #789758Thanks for the post and updates on the lake. I fished this lake for 12 years from age 13-28. It’s been 14 years since I have been there and this post brings back some great memories. My parents and I would make the trip from northern Illinios to the lake sometimes twice a year, once for spring opening and once in september. The spring always produced smaller eyes and an abundance of small northerns. The fall bite produced nicer eyes but fewer numbers. The crappies and gills were huge in the fall, I saved one crappie to mount that was almost 4 pounds!! We stayed at a place called AKSARBEN…Nebraska spelled backwards. I did stay at Tomahawk on one occasion but prefered the other resort better for the location. I do not beleive the AKSARBEN resort is still in operation, but have contemplated making the 500+ mile trip back to the lake this fall just for nostalgia reasons. If anyone has any more information on the lake I would appreciate it. Thanks
July 3, 2009 at 11:24 pm #788315Starter battery has full charge and is realatively new. i talked to the dealership that mounted it and they said bring it in and they will have a look at it. The only problem is they are 250 miles away and I have a BPR dealer only 12 miles away. The dealership that sold me the motor and hung it on the boat said they will not cover it if I take it to the closer dealer. Only if it is a manufacturer warranty…not if they didn’t install it correctly. Thanks
July 3, 2009 at 2:20 am #788251Woot!! Took it out this afternoon and it runs like a bat outa $#%^. The motor runs great but I did experience cutting out when I trimmed the engine up. If I tap the trim button it doesn’t cut out, but if I hold the button in for a brief second the motor cuts and misses. Any idea why the engine cuts out while trying to do a full button push trim? It doesnt matter where the position of the engine is when running WOT the engine cuts out momentarily while pushing the button. Tapping it works but takes a while to get the motor trimmed up. Thanks
July 1, 2009 at 10:44 pm #787939Thanks guys.
I think I may switch over to xd100 after the xd50 gets low. I understand I will have to take it back to the dealer as they have to re-program the motor. I researched this via the internet so I won’t make any mistakes on that issue. I guess tomarrow will be the test, im gonna drive it hard and see what this motor has compared to my old fitch.June 28, 2009 at 1:48 am #787068Thanks guys, a few weeks away can seem like an eternity sometimes. Dan I might see you on the water this summer after all.
June 11, 2009 at 10:16 am #783265Thanks for the reply’s, the motor has a 3 year warranty with it and I can keep my prop. I thought about parting out my motor but then trying to sell a ficht is like trying to sell a bridge in the desert! If I could find a nice used motor for $5000.00 i would jump on it! I have looked everywhere but can’t find a 150 Evinrude anywhere in the 2002-2007 model used. Thanks again.
May 27, 2009 at 1:23 am #779373Thnx Dan. From what the mechanic said the problem was not with the oil injection but from something else. He said the engine has one injector that feeds all six cylinders. It appears to be a mystery until it is fully torn down and the crank inspected. The other 5 cylinders have even 105 pressure and look like new. He thought maybe there was a map issue with the computer that may have glitched. Another strange thing was there was no error codes on the computer, actually no codes whatsover showed up. He said they always have some erros throughout the cycles on a given day. The scarry thing is if I get it fixed , how long before it may happen again? I wouldn’t mind investing the money but I dont like throwing money away! The motor has had less then two tanks of gas ran through it since the rebuild…maybe a faulty rebuild?
May 22, 2009 at 1:45 am #778738Thanks for the reply. I got the problem fixed now. Seems it was a small fuse under the cowl of the engine. Could have never found it if it wasnt for a call to a marine shop. It does seem strange that there is no power to the switch when the fuse goes out in the engine though.
May 7, 2009 at 1:07 am #774567Grats on the seventh place. If it was me I think I would have a negative place (if there was one). I tried yellowstone for some crappies today, nothing much happening up at the lake. I did manage to get some more morrels and even a pile of aspargrass on the way home. The day wasn’t a total bust.
April 26, 2009 at 2:51 pm #771196I’m begining to think I may be the only one fishing pool 12. Got em all to myself.
April 26, 2009 at 12:23 am #771121I hit the net and found the patent number to be from 1943 but unfortunately there was no image or text associated with it. I came to a dead end at the pat office website.
April 25, 2009 at 11:04 pm #771116Thanks for the information. I will put them on the shelf and check around on the net and see what I can come up with. I only have $1.00 invested and was even thinking of useing them for some fun fishing at a small river where the smallmouth hit anything. I lose a lot of lures there so when I saw them I thought I could use them and if I lost them I wasnt out much money. I think I will hold off on that untill I find out if they may be worth something. Thanks again and if anyone comes across some pics of something close i would appreciate it.
April 25, 2009 at 10:26 pm #771109The only name is on the inside of the box lid. I don’t even know if these are the right lures for the box. I am assuming they are because there are so many of them. The box lid says “Pearl City Stream Tested Lures F.F. Minni Flourescent– Flamefilm. Us Patent No. 2,319,222”.
April 25, 2009 at 9:42 pm #771094Thanks for the reply’s. I first thought they may have been some kind of “shrinky dink” type of plastic things. After further examining them I discovered they are made with the wire wrapped through them. Interesting and unique.I will take your advice and try a show whenever one comes to my area. Thanks again.
April 25, 2009 at 2:13 am #770968Too far to drive for a minor repair. Any ideas for a quick fix untill fishing season is over and I can get every ding and scratched fixed? Thanks
April 16, 2009 at 2:03 am #768888Well I guess its just a matter of time before they get hungry enough to bite again. Dan, I was probably one of the boats on the Wi side you saw last saturday. I fished from the dam down to the train bridge on the Illinios side with no luck. I tried everything from ringworms, sonars, and even minnows on a slip bobber. I will be back out tomarrow and going for some backwater crappies or at least whatever bites. Thanks
April 12, 2009 at 1:24 am #767730JD, I just got off the water and didnt get a thing either. This marks the third trip in a week with nothing to show for it. I was throwing everything possible at them. I fished shallow, deep and ,mid range waters but no bites. I did pick up quite a few fish on the finder but nothing hitting. If you have any luck let me know what you did to entice them to bite. Thanks
March 31, 2009 at 10:20 pm #764400I will try that next time and see what i get for rpm and speed. When you say you are trimmed all the way down on take off does that mean the guage reads below the boat? I might be taking off wrong. I always trim the boat level then trim down as I take off. Is this right or should I trim all the way down then trim up as I start planeing out? Thanks
March 31, 2009 at 1:50 am #764060The prop is a renegade 13 1/2 x 23 four blade ss prop. I am new to a boat this large so I adjusted my trimming by keeping the trim guage needle level with the boat in the dial indicator when on plane. Should I be trimming it so the needle points above or below the boat and watch the rpms? If so , does this mean the trim guage is off? Maybe the hot foot needs to be adjusted to open the throttle more? Thanks for the help.
March 27, 2009 at 2:08 am #763097Very good to see others with pool 12 interest. I returned to the old miss. this year after purchasing a new boat (new to me). I haven’t fished the river for many years and am looking forward to going out every sunday. It may take me a while to adapt to river fishing since I have been fishing mainly lakes for the past 15 years. It’s a totally different strategy when theres a ton of current involved. I look forward to post from others from pool 12. Hope theres few to read in the future.
