Prop MD in Eden Prairie has been good for me. Very competitive and can usually turn them around quickly.

Where does somebody look to find a used 4 stroke kicker motor (prefer Yamaha 9.9) ? Been on lots of marine sites and not much out there.
There is no perfect place, they are hard to come by, and even harder to get a deal!! I bought one last spring and it is just a matter of hitting all possible sights, and having the cash in hand when you find a deal!! Otherwise just fork over the cash, and go brand new!!? Good luck!!
May 1, 2012 at 1:35 am #1064163I believe everyone on this site is totally on board, for preventing, or curing this problem. Fact is no matter what sticker you put on, whether its on their boat, or these idiots foreheads. Prevention is long over there are too many people out there that just don’t care, so lets save all this wasted money and put it towards researching some cures. Lets face it, these things are all here to stay, and there are too many people using the resource to even slow it down!? Not too mention like above that it is impossible to get it out of all our trailer frames!!? I do agree with doing everything we can to prevent it, but it is just too late for prevention.

If you have a Lowrance you can bet it’s probably the transducer. I have 3 Lowrance graphs in my boat. After four years I now have gone through 8 transducers. This is really getting old. I will be giving Lowrance another phone call shortly. My next one will probably be a Hummingbird.
X2!!! Agreed, I have had multiple issues with all of my 3 lowrance graphs from total replacement to I don’t know how many transducers! Even the new ones that are not supposed to have the same problem!! My next graphs will definitley be Humminbird, because every one I know has had multiple issues with their junk!! I would say buy another transducer like the multiple ones I’ve had to buy!May 2, 2011 at 9:02 pm #962736Essentially it’s used, but he said he never use it, and when he said never he meant it! It looks brand new, still has factory grease on everything, and not a spec of dirt!?
They are hard to find, and when you do, don’t wait! I had to drive to grand rapids for this one, but it was well worth it!
April 30, 2011 at 6:30 pm #962114T8 with a tiller handle. Love it so far. I do a lot of pulling lead in the summer, so screwing around with that big motor has been a pain since I bought the boat! Couldn’t handle it anymore!
April 30, 2011 at 5:41 pm #962110Isn’t our govt great! They sure know how to waste time and money! Both of which those idiots seem to think there’s no end of!!? Everyone of em should be fired, and we should start from scratch! I better shut up now, before I really get going!
April 30, 2011 at 12:34 pm #962059You can get battery terminal cleaner, other wise baking soda and water do the same thing. Clean the terminals really good with what ever you prefer, and then get a tube of dielectric grease, which can be purchased at any auto store. That will last a long time, trouble free.
April 28, 2011 at 12:42 am #961373Nice, that sounds like a good time, I will do my best to be there!?
April 27, 2011 at 9:13 pm #961286Probably a dumb question, but what is the GTG crowd?
Plan on fishing down there all weekend, and was just trying to figure out my best plan?
April 23, 2011 at 7:15 pm #960004That’s what I was thinking, just wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing something? Thanks a lot!

The 1880 stopped last year. This year (2010) is the first year for the 1850. They are fairly similar to each other so its not like a brand new model that still has some bugs.
Im not 100% sure on the ss motor. I believe it should work but will have to do some checking.
Feel free to give me a call or send me a message with any questions, would be glad to help ya out!!!

Sorry guys on the last post trying to do this from my phone!? Little off the subject here, but I just bought a t 8 to put on my 1880, and I’m just wondering if there’s any reason I would need a jack plate? Its just a manual tilt tiller, but I don’t see any reason I couldn’t just mount this on my transom?

June 7, 2010 at 11:57 pm #878041Thanks for the suggestions guys.
I’ve tried not putting it in as far, but then I can’t get it off the trailer? I’ve even tried powering it off in reverse, but unless it is backed in far enough it won’t come off? I think my trolling motor hangs out the front of my bow considerably more than most boats I’ve ever seen or dealt with?
I could mess with that mount, but to be honest I don’t want to have to do that every time! I’ll mess around with it though.
May 10, 2010 at 12:41 am #870728I’ve had the exact same problems with the same setup! I replaced my transducer last year also, and it was good thru the year. Now its repeating the same issue! Mine started out just when I was in plane and just got worse and is doing the identical thing. I too am done with lowrance! Out of the three models on my boat all have had multiple issues!

What depths were you fishing? I wouldnt be afraid to target the 18-24FOW range
We tried that depth most of the day! At times were dipping down to 30 feet! The one eye we did get was in 18 fow.
April 28, 2010 at 1:06 am #867394I have the same problem because I cheaped out and skipped that kicker I should have bought! I have a pair of 18″, 24″, and 30″, I will hook up 1 on each stearn hook so it does not interrupt boat control. When I need to dial in that speed I just swap out a drift sock or two! This works better than trying to do it with the throttle on those big motors, because 50 rpm makes a huge difference! I bought all mine on eBay! They have all kinds of sizes and even with shipping they are much cheaper than any store!
April 21, 2010 at 6:42 pm #865770I have the same boat and only have the 150, and do not regret it a bit. I love the 4 strokes, and would never own a 2 stroke again! The top speed difference is only 2mph,and the 150 actually planes out faster!
Yeah the resale may be a little better with the 200, unless gas shoots back up to $5!?
Skeeter posts all the performance specs on their website with the identical boats. You can see the fuel economy and top speeds, and plenty of other info. Either way you will love the boat! As long as you dont have to deal with their warranty dept! Its a joke!
March 24, 2010 at 10:30 am #856721I have an 08 1880 with the 150 on it and really like it. I also use it for tourneys and it is a good boat. I can agree with the livewell thing because mine does that at certain times. Also trying to get Skeeter to deal with all my warranty issues in a timely fashion took an act of god! All in all I am still very happy every time I am fishing in it.
March 21, 2010 at 1:09 am #855718I have an 1880 skeeter with an 80 lb terrova I pilot and if you keep it in check it is just fine. Yeah if your trying to spotlock in the middle of crazy current it aint gonna last! If you use common sense and pay attention to what percent the motor is running at you will have no problem.
I agree with what was said before that there are too many variables there to give a valid answer, but you know what your batteries are good for and if theyre screaming all day you will have an issue?January 19, 2010 at 1:39 pm #833655I’m not real sure what to think about it. I used to think it was just another excuse why late ice gets tough. Recently I had a buddy that’s not a BS’er spear a 36″ that had absolutely no teeth!? This is his first year spearing also so he was like me, and didn’t know what to think?
April 10, 2009 at 2:02 am #767285Just curious what happened to your head gasket? Never heard of an 04 having a head gasket go?
March 24, 2009 at 2:28 am #761821Thanks Eric I’ll have to try that de-icer. Although hopefully that won’t be much of an issue this year anymore. The weird thing is it did it on thurs and fri and it wasn’t that cold?
March 24, 2009 at 1:50 am #761804That’s kind of what I thought because I’ve never heard of that problem in any trolling motors. I would like to remedy the problem because I love the motor otherwise.
March 22, 2009 at 9:57 pm #761277That’s one nice looking boat, but I hope you don’t have the problems I had with skeeter and their warranty work! Although I bought mine from Frankies so maybe they’re the ones playing games? The only thing I can say is it’s been a terrible experience and they have not taken care of me at all!
March 22, 2009 at 9:40 pm #761275Don’t feel bad I was down there too and we only caught 1 18 incher, and I usually hold my own down there. We did catch a 17 inch brown trout, yes I said brown trout! Wouldn’t believe it myself if I hadn’t seen it myself.
