I usually put in at the Hastings public ramp, lots of parking and they just redid the ramps. There’s also Prescott, which has a fee to launch. The advantage to Prescott is you are on the south side of the no wake zone, saving you some time if your heading down river.
I was on pool 3 yesterday, I had water temps at 43, so I think the spawn is probably going on right now. The water clarity was suprisingly good for this time of year, and yes I love to fish pool 2 with high water, as long as its not to muddy
I tried dumping in there, it was to shallow to float my boat so I went to Mississippi pub. Got 3 nothing big, the water was even to high for my high water spots, I got fish trolling but i hate trolling Clarity was O.K., temps 72 degree’s 15 bucks to launch at the bar.
We leave on june 19th for 5 days, canoeing in to insula lake. Im going after walleye. Smallies and pike. I’m bringing rigging. Tackle, slip bobbers, lots of jigs, live leeches, spoons, cranks, spinnerbaits. How about footware, suggestions?
I got in the stand last night, holy buckets was it hot, and the mosquito’s. It was nice to get in the stand but I think I’m going to let it get alittle cooler
Rachel and I hit pool 2 saturday afternoon, we pounded the fish in a back water area, they were all nice eaters, I was getting depressed at not being able to keep these nice 15-17’s so we moved to try and find some big fish, we worked dams on P2 on saturday with one fat 25 on a leech and a nice eater on a crank. We fished pool 3 today with one 18 incher. The dam bite wasn’t really on like I thought it would be, the water was still real muddy, about 6 inch visability. water temps 75, which came up quick from the previous weekend. i think I’m goinng to hit Mille Lacs next weekend.
Bombers have always been really good for me, Gander had DT’s on sale in a bargain bind a while back and I bought a ton of them, I haven’t had a chance to use them yet.
They aren’t bad eating, I kept some small ones off of the St.Croix yesterday, we are going to have a fish tasting contest, we have walleye, pike, sunny’s, sheephead, and I’m going to get some small cat.
I went down this morning before the storm, the water clarity was 3 inches with a orange jig, and there is alot of debris floating i was looking forward to some river fishing, I think I’ll hit the Croix instead.
The river coming up is fine, especially on pool 2, as long as we don’t get that chocolate milk thing going on. I’ve got alot of good high water spots. If its bad i’ll be heading to Mille Lacs.
I spent Sunday afternoon fishing dams with 1 white bass to show for. I don’t know if the water temps coming up so fast have screwed up the spawn, but I talked to a buddy in Iowa, he had 58 degree temps. the fish he cleaned had eggs. I think its going to be a strange year.
