Thanks for a very cool read. That’s great.

It does NOT fit the agenda. It does NOT warrant funding. No group can benefit from this.
Therefore, it is not possible.

Do you want to play catch/release or keep fish to eat? Depending on your answer I would think that should tell you where to go…RR
If a fish meal was part of the goal, pepin would not be on my list FWIW. I never considered those fish to be that good eating. I know a lot of people do, but not me.

What do you country hicks think of us citidiots now! We got bears!
With how much fanfare all of you are making of it……my thoughts haven’t changed.
I would throw out all my socks and buy 100 pairs of brand new IDENTICAL socks so there would be no more matching and having a dozen unmatched singles when we are done with laundry…….

, charge up the ice fishing unit, throw the puck over the side of the boat/canoe/kayack and fish away on the soft water.
Or if you have a little water sitting in the transom/bilge…..just set the ducer in that and it’ll shoot thru the hull. Works at wide open throttle that way…..
I really question the “ducks/geese have nothing to do with it theory”.
I know it is only an anecdotal observation, but I have a friend that has a few excavated ponds on his land. He dozed and excavated these in non-wetland spots and they naturally filled with ground water. Two years after the first one filled, he decided to drain it so he could enlarge it. He found an awesome amount of minnow life there. That is in only two years with NO flowage in or out. All three ponds now have nice vegetation, incredible minnow populations (including bullheads up to and over a pound), and thriving leech populations.
Where did all that life come from? The ducks and geese may not be the culprits, but SOMETHING transported and spread the minnows/vegetation, because it did not just magically appear there.
If they are so precious that killing one for any reason is taboo, why on earth even allow fishing for them? Hooking mortality kills fish. Period. Maybe not many, but some.
They are fish….just fish. Nothing more. And I truly can not begrudge somebody for wanting to kill a 50″ fish. It does not seem right to me to deny people the chance to keep a fish of a lifetime.

In walleyes and sauger the bigger fish may not produce as many viable eggs, but they hold the genetic cornerstone for the future.
And on that note – the big ones have spawned many times over the years, propagating their genetics over and over again. The genetics were the same when they were 15″ youngins as they are when the fish is a 30″ hawg.
Kill a bunch of 16″ fish and there is a great chance that you are killing some wonderful genetics somewhere in the mix. Somebody whacking a nice one here and there is not the end of the world, no matter how some people view it.
Like anything else – moderation and common sense is key.
That’s fine as long as it is out of the direct sunlight. Prolonged sunlight exposure is bad for ammo and can cause hang-fires……
Aside from the bickering, this has been a cool thread.
I remember renting resort boats and supplying our own motors. Seems lots of guys did that when I was young.
Trolling flatfish with a big crawler piece on each front hook and a rubber core, or dogear sinker to get it down.

Anyplace to stream it online?
I don’t want to pay dish any more than I already do.
To me, this is nothing more than feel good, warm-n-fuzzy legislation.
It is already unlawful to physically or verbally abuse and threaten someone. It is unlawful. All this law does is add another violation to a list of them.
It is already against the law to shoot someone……the law stops NOTHING. If you are a violent, criminally oriented person, another law isn’t going to change that.

Yup. As soon as they can help with fishing…, that’s what a warden told me when me and my 14mo old son came in with our 12 eyes…. Start em young.
I carry a 20ga Citori Superlight Feather for grouse. It is a very sweet gun and I treat it like a gov’t mule. It is worth every penny I have depreciated out of it so far.
the previous post about life being too short is correct. Heavy or ugly guns are not worth carrying to me…

In reading the sign Mike, I’m thinking they want us to report sightings of the sign.
Uhhhh…..I don’t think at is the intent.
I believe they want reported sightings of the locks themselves. I just called and reported I saw a lock, they seemed appreciative.

The difference is that politicians are elected to serve the best interests of the population. Fishing pros are in an industry of self promotion and selling to further their own cause – period. This is accomplished by sponsorships and endorsements, and by being paid walking advertisements. They are not elected by the public and paid by public taxes to best serve the people that elected and pay for them……
Apples and oranges.
Could someone post the link? An embedded video is not accessible from this danged IPad.
Does anyone know of any place that has them in the forest lake area? My buddy is coming up from that area this coming weekend. He needs to pick up the crawlers, as we have none available anywhere up here.

Open water getting to Vidas yet?
The most recent post from the clementson resort site:
Vidas landing now has open water. There’s about 10 feet of shore ice to break off, but the landing is clear. Open water reaches west of Clementson now. The bay is beginning to open as well.
Great report and update Ryan!
I have reported many rainy sturgeon but never have received any updates later on. It is interesting seeing the journeys and growth of these fish. 7 days from now, I hope to have more tags to report……

Sturgies and channels mouths were made for circles.
What advantages does a circle give for sturg? Are they any better than “J” or just as good/equal?
Do you fish the rainy? Near vertical is tough there, IMO.
I have done the same rod holder/reel like mad technique for hook setting up there with good results, but I prefer to put the stones to them the old fashioned way. I haven’t noticed one way being better than the other for me.
I am curious as to the reason the majority of anglers here prefer using circle hooks over regular style hooks for sturgeon? From what I read and understand on them, circles are for non-hooksetting situations and times when gut hooking is a concern.
I have had 2-300 sturgeon in my boat over the years, all caught on regular 4/0 or 5/0 J-hooks. I have never seen even 1 single fish that was throat or gut hooked. The VAST majority of bites I have had are simple light tug-tug-tugs, not the rod-loading bites that excel for circle hooks. A simple, firm sweep and rod-load has worked well for me over the years producing nice, solid hook-ups time after time.
What advantage are circles giving you guys?
