Awesome! Congrats on a great buck!…I hear ya on going nuts, tagging out early is always bitter sweet
September 24, 2012 at 6:17 pm #123800I agree Bob. I think putting in time long range scouting and waiting for the right time to dive in is paramount. Weather fronts are about the only time I hunt early in the season and it’s provided me with enough close calls, or passed shots on mature(4 1/2+ year olds)in the past few years to make me a believer. Just because you have the day off doesn’t make it a good day to hunt.
September 24, 2012 at 6:13 pm #123798I say yes, same buck…tough to say for sure though. I like that second one, nice beam length
September 23, 2012 at 12:38 pm #123712Thanks fellas. No Jon I didn’t load him by myself, luckily my girlfriend was with…I didn’t get a chance to weigh him but he was definitely well into the 200’s.
September 22, 2012 at 6:08 pm #123659Congrats Gobbler! You just flat out know how to get it done Beauty of a buck
September 22, 2012 at 6:06 pm #123658Great story! It actually gave me tingles and makes me remember my first years bowhunting. It’s something I’m sure he’ll never forget. Congrats to your son on the great buck
September 22, 2012 at 6:00 pm #123656Haha no shirt on? That’s awesome man, you’re an animal! Congrats on the great buck

Shednut, Do you see that split brow trait alot? I have a pic from 2010 of a main frame 10 with that same split as the shed. Same side, same shape. Only split brow I have seen around our area.
There are a few, but I definitely haven’t seen alot of split brows. I picked up one shed this spring with a split brow, and know of at least 2 other bucks with split brows….but one of those has more of what I’d call kickers from the beams compared to actual splits.
March 30, 2012 at 12:42 am #119626Good article, I like the Larry quote too…painted a pretty funny picture.
Walleyebuster, I’m sure it’s possible. I know some people train their dogs to just sit or lie down next to the sheds they find. I personally have trained BB to stay within eyesight of me. I have done that more for the fact that I don’t want her out of sight chasing deer without me being able to correct her with the e-collar.
March 23, 2012 at 4:46 pm #119532Another hike today produced a funky skull plate that I left for the squirrels to gnaw on. Managed to pick up one shed from a picked corn field. I think my season is winding down….probably take a few walks early next week and hang it up for the season.
March 23, 2012 at 4:40 pm #119530Congrats on the finds! Not everyday you find a horseshoe and make good use of it right away Congrats on the house too, that’s exciting
March 18, 2012 at 6:45 pm #119454Nice! I agree with Jigger, they definitely look like they are related
March 18, 2012 at 6:30 pm #119451Looks like you found the hotspot. Nice finds, that 5 point is a dandy and I like the funky one too
March 18, 2012 at 6:27 pm #119449Hey that’s awesome Jigger! Never been lucky enough to find a hanger like that. Congrats to you and your son
March 12, 2012 at 8:15 pm #119328Lucas, I’m not positive but I had heard of someone hitting a big buck with their pickup not very far from where I found him dead….I’m thinking that he had internal injuries possibly from a vehicle collision but couldn’t see any obvious signs of trauma from what was left of him.
Two more today, BB was the bread winner today and found both of them. One old one and one freshie.
March 12, 2012 at 8:08 pm #119327That’s a productive weekend! Looks like some pretty chunky sheds in there to boot Some beautiful country you get to stomp around in
March 12, 2012 at 8:06 pm #119325Nice finds! Always a bummer to find them with the antlers still attached to the skull plate, but some great sheds none the less
March 12, 2012 at 8:04 pm #119324Nice work! It’s a great way to get together with friends and family and enjoy the outdoors
March 10, 2012 at 7:44 pm #119279Thanks for the link Todders…I’ll definitely check them out.
Picked up two more today, nothing special…but bone is bone. I found the first one a big 2 point, and BB ended up snagging an old chewed up fork horn.
March 9, 2012 at 8:19 pm #119273Finally picked up some bone again today. The last couple hikes haven’t produced anything, but my cameras are still showing a good share of the bucks packing both sides so I haven’t been hitting it any too hard either. Right off the bat today I was climbing a bedding point and spotted a shed laying tines down about 40 yards in front me. BB beat me to it so no ATL, but was happy to kick off the days hike with some success. Turned out to be the right side off a junky 3 1/2 y.o. with a split brow that I have a pile of pictures of. Another 3 hours of hiking produced nothing and I decided to hit one more small spot before calling it a day. Was bummed to find a buck that I was really looking forward to chasing this fall. He was a super stud of a three year old with a ton of character and 14 measureable points. The last pic is of him with his matching set from last season. He blew up from about a 130″ deer last year to a 157″ this year. That’s just the way it goes sometimes, but definitely shows what giving them a year will do for their headgear.
March 5, 2012 at 2:58 am #119141Great job fellas! Some nice finds there, sounds like you both had a heck of a lot of fun
