We were up the middle of June this year and did 88 <strong class=”ido-tag-strong”>walleyes for 2 guys in 3 days. Was hooked and planned another camping trip from Oct 14-18. I am sure it is weather dependent, but does anyone know when the park service pulls the lake markers for the year?

Usually around the end of September. I’ve been there when they are pulling them.

Yes, that is about right. One piece of advice, pay attention to the wind. A strong west wind has 25+ miles to build up waves before they culminate at the Brule Narrows. There have been boats swamped there and lives lost there. I’ve been there when it was ugly and learned this one the hard way – it was not a fun ride – unsafe and stressful! Wear your PFD.

    Good luck!

We have been to Rainy in Mid to late September for 7 years. Fishing can vary, but it’s typically pretty good and we have always put some big walleye and plenty of eaters in the boat.

When you come through the narrows (from west to east), there is an inside turn edge to the east and a bit north that we have taken many walleye off of (especially when the wind is from the south and it’s rough there). Look 25-35 feet and be *very* careful of the canadian border – you’ll be within 100-200 yards of it and this is an area where I have seen a couple of boats get popped for fishing in canadian water. Some *big* northern pike here too – we’ve seen guys trolling big baits for them here too.

This is all called “Saginaw Bay”. There are a half-dozen or so good mid bay reefs as you venture a bit south and east towards Shelland Island and Blueberry Island. We’ve found that using our electronics extensively on these reefs is critical. 90% of the reef will have little or no fish, then you’ll find a pod of them and pick up 6 fish in 10 minutes. Spot-lock is super useful as well – it’s rarely calm in Saginaw Bay. Sometimes it takes parking right on top of the fish for 10 minutes to get them to go. We have had days where they bite *very* light and you bring up nothing but minnow head on the jig or a “skinned” shiner on the jig. We usually do not find any need to go past Blueberry and further east.

We primarily fish jig/minnow on a rod with braid and a flourocarbon leader tied on with a double-uni knot. Even in the stained water, having the flouro leader makes a difference. We hav also pulled leadcore with flicker shads over the reefs as well – usually this is if they won’t go on jigs and we need to get a reaction bite.

We get both “river run” chubs (they vary in size) and shiners. Sometimes pulling crawlers will be good, but we’ve usually done just fine on minnows. Sometimes shiners are very much preferred. Buy some of each and experiment early in the trip before laying in a supply is my advice.

Weather that time of year has varied from 70’s and tshirt weather to, more often, 40-50’s and wind and rain. Be prepped for the lousy weather with plenty of warm clothes and good raingear. Better to be prepared and not need…

Be prepared for lots of traffic on the water. It was usually a ghost town pre-Covid, but last year was nuts. No kidding – probably 10x the number of people and boats than we’ve seen at anytime in previous years. Maybe that will relax with the border being open now.

    Good Luck!

Even if Rodgers and Adams *do* play this year in GB…can you imagine the distraction level? What happens if they don’t play well? What happens if one of them gets hurt? What happens if GB loses a couple in a row? What happens if Adams is a holdout and Rodgers comes back (or some flavor of vice-versa)?

No matter how this goes down, it will be an everyday distraction for the entire team. Tough to imagine that the two highest paid stars on the team will garner much in the way of sympathy or support (down deep, not what is said to media) from the other 50 guys who don’t make as much and are impacted negatively by the upcoming media circus.

It’s setting up to be a lot of fun to watch – I believe that GB reports Tuesday 7/27 for camp.

Sounds like Adam’s issue is the Hopkins contract at $22M per year. He wants more and the Packers don’t want to recognize Hopkins’ contract in their negotiations with Adams.

Just keeps getting better and better! )

If Rodgers sits out camp, it will be delightful to watch the drama. If Rodgers comes back and they lose a game or two and/or he doesn’t play well, it will be delightful to watch the drama. This will hang over GB like a stink cloud all season.

If I were the Packers, I’d trade him and get a kings ransom for him (ala Herschel Walker trade). He’s got some years left, but the odds of his play going down are much greater than the odds of his play staying the same or getting better. Or his odds of getting hurt.

Acadia National Park is a “must see” and should be gorgeous in the fall. Lots of great biking and hiking in Acadia if you so desire.

The drive up the coast from Boston to Acadia (through Portland and Portsmouth) is very scenic with some great towns and food along the way.

    Enjoy!

Is Merc not going to warranty it? What they are doing us the same as any OEM, and not just in the marine world. In case you didn’t know global supply can’t keep up with demand.

What the OP is upset about is his motor failing at 4.5h and now being stuck with no boat at the start of soft water season. I can’t say as I blame him. It would be frustrating to be told that the part is on back-order to an owner when, presumably, they are using the same part to build new motors not yet sold.

In the meantime, his new rig sits on the trailer as he watches the Spring fishing season go by. Yep, I get his frustration.

Spotted Cow from WI when chasing fish on Green Bay, Sturgeon Bay or the great lakes, Molson from Canada when on Rainy Lake throwing topwaters for giant smallies, free & cold from my buddies fridge/cooler when he’s not looking. )

    1. Wanted criminal tries to flee the cops.
    2. Cop accidentally shoots criminal.

#2 would not have happened if not for #1. And breaking the law without consequence is not acceptable behavior in a civilized society.

The public reaction is way off balance and out of control. Something needs to be done to correct this or its going to get worse and eventually affect us all up close and personal.

I agree that there are consequences for breaking the law and there always should be to maintain order. If you flee cops, your chances of something bad happening go up exponentially.

On the same note, this police officer involved is now responsible for a death due to her negligence. Even though it clearly looks like she made a mistake, you are still responsible for your actions while making a mistake. This is a textbook example of manslaughter per Minnesota’s laws. She is going to jail. Let’s hope this is plead out early and everything is resolved with as much order as possible.

You might want to explore the “qualified immunity” that applies to police, firefighters, EMT’s, etc. If this plays out as I believe it will, I don’t believe there will be jail time for the officer.

First fish was 13#+ and 32″? James, you should think about a “warm-up” fish next time. Guy could hurt himself…

Nope. Ten colors *usually* go on a 4xx series reel which is significantly bigger. Rather than leadcore, maybe some 4+ ounce snap weights would be better if you don’t have the reel to fit 10 colors?

As I understand your question and your follow-ups, this is just a hypothetical question. I don’t understand the folks commenting and name calling.

They could write you a ticket, you would then have to appear in court or pay the fine. I don’t think it could be upheld in court. Just my opinion.

If you’re not 100% on the 25hp, I may have one for you. It has a 2018 30hp ETec, lund completely re-done (professionally), 2018 galvanized trailer.

PM me here if you’d like.

Home prices and cabin prices are being fueled by lack of supply, a good investment market, and historic low interest rates. As has happened several times previously…there will be a correction. Secondary properties are one of the first things to go when a money crunch hits.

We were looking at property near Madison, WI for my son to purchase – same situation. Houses getting 30-50 offers and selling for well over the already inflated listing price. We looked at several in the $200k-$250k range and to say they were nothing special would be an understatement.

    Good luck!

Pretty close to what they sell for new. I make money off things I sell as well

Nope. Digital version (like this one) is retail $399. Disc version is $499. Folks looking to give one as a gift at Christmas (like me) have seen this type of ad on CL or FB Marketplace for months. It’s not like it is an investment that matured…it is just scalping. In a month or two, they’ll be more available in stores.

Don’t forget Tavon Austin…he went 8th overall in 2013 and Rodgers threw to him this year.

No doubt, Rodgers has made some scrap heap receivers look palatable and some good receivers look great in GB.

But, Rodgers is slam-dunk the MVP of the league. And, we’d love him if he was a Viking.

Packers should have been flagged for a hit on Brady (hit in head then thrown down) and #77 jumping (false start not called) on a key play in the 2nd half.

The call on the jersey grab on King vs. Johnson was blatent and obvious. If that doesn’t get called, then there is no such thing as PI or defensive holding. Flag came in late because the ref was downfield and was the only one to have a very clear view of the infraction.

Plus, did you see Rodgers bitching and yelling at the official over on the sidelines? Only a few QB’s could do that and not get flagged…he is one of them.

My only regret is that only ~9,000 Packer fans were allowed to experience that heartbreak in person…there was room for another ~72,000. )

I converted a cheap cooler for a sous vide just for large batches of summer sausage and snack sticks. Big 2.5 gallon ziplocs work great to keep the product dry, yet still let them cook in the sous vide. Once done and cooled, I vacuum seal for better freezer protection.

I have AT&T on my cell and a Verizon MiFi hotspot. Both worked out about 3-4 miles from Pine on Wigwam’s road. I used my cellphone as a hotspot for connecting my laptop for work (including video calls) and the MiFi for connecting my personal laptop and streaming Xfinity, HBOMax, Netflix, and Disney+. Had perfect results with both. Had about 4 bars on my cell for AT&T, 2-3 bars for the MiFi (3 bars if I stuck it in the windowsill). This was just over 1/1/21.

I bought one when Reed’s had their sale along with a spare battery. I was on LOTW over 1/1/21 and took it outside to drill holes just to see how long it would go. I had drilled 6 holes in the house, then I drilled 41 more before the battery quit. So, total of 47 holes with one fully charged, warm battery over 5 days in about 14″ of ice. Just a note, like most LiIon batteries, when is done there is no “slow down” noticeable. It goes from drilling to stopped – that’s it.

    Impressed so far.

@lindyrig79 – YES! I use mine on our Wusthof set. If you have Santuko knives, they are a different angle – don’t use it on those. However, you could buy the Ken Onion vesion that has an adjustable degree.

Yes, having the gauge is nice. I would recommend a “blinker” style switch for adjustment.

I have one on my Skeeter WX2190. I like it overall, but especially when loading the boat. It *may* help me wring the last 1 mph out of the boat on the top end, but the opportunity to do that is seldom on the waters I run. More often I can drop it down for running in 3 footers. Mine is an Atlas as well.

Saw one stuck on LOTW in the NW angle last year. Good guys from Sunset took about 2 hours to get it out with some “wading” into the slush required. Did not look fun.
