Fished out of Galena IL on Tuesday and had a great day fishing cat. Had my grandson with me and we took home 16 cat between 2 to 5 pounds. All on stink bait – Sonny’s Super Sticky regular formula. Small cuts/sloughs – 15 to 30 yards wide were the key. Water depth was 3 to 10 feet.

I keep my boat at the Ferry Landing by Galena. Went out fishing on Tuesday and had a great day fishing – stage was at 11’9. Went up this morning and had to launch my canoe to get to my dock. River was at 16’9″ with three to four feet of water over the parking area. River looks like chocolate milk with a ton of debris floating. Boat was o.k. – new bilge pump worked great! Many other boats sunk/sinking. River is suppose to drop to 13′ by this weekend but water conditions are terrible. Hwy 20 bridge over the Apple River [west of Elizabeth IL] is closed. Water went over the bridge and caused major damage. Hopefully they can get it open soon. We measured 14.3″ at Stockton IL. Be careful on the water.
July 13, 2011 at 5:08 pm #980496Just returned from a week on Osakis. Had a great time fishing the lake. Found lots of nice gills – most went back in the lake, found some crappies but they were on the small side, large mouths were agressive and nice size – also went back in, one good day of walleye fishing otherwise they were tough to come by, also caught some nice perch [they ended up in the frying pan, two northerns. Caught quite a few fish on green/black tube jigs.
Definitely a fisherman’s lake!June 30, 2011 at 1:38 pm #977450Thanks for the information. My background/experience deals more with fishing rivers so the info on lake fishing is much appreciated.
July 14, 2009 at 12:18 am #790220Was out on pool 12 on Sunday and [picked up some nice eating size cat, [1 -2 pounds] on crawlers. Fished with egg sinker and spilt shot about 10 inches above hook. Found the most fish on sharp drop off on the main channel, sand bottom seemed to produce the best. Good luck!
December 25, 2005 at 11:43 pm #406627Ice is in pretty good shape. Average is about 8 inches. Some areas a little less. Current usually pushes it down to about 5 inches. Most backwater areas are pretty safe. Just need to watch those parts of Harris Slough that have current coming in off the channel. Good fishing!
