“Base” is Rainy Lake Houseboats. You can barely see some of their boats in the upper left corner of the pic. They’re just west of Island View about 1/2 mi. You should have lots of options the week of June 27. There should be fish in shallow bays and also on main-lake structure close to the bays, maybe also further out. Everything depends on weather patterns and water temperatures. There may be some heavy mayfly hatches in some of the bays around then. There are several videos on the IDO site for fishing Rainy. Use the search function to find them. Also, search for different businesses in the International Falls area and see if they post online reports.

    Thank you for the reply.
I’ve watched quite a few of the videos and they seem very vague as far as info goes, they seem to be more of a sales pitch for northernaire houseboats or pointing you in the direction of a guide to hire.

I’m pretty sure everyone here knows how to catch a walleye they just don’t want to spend two days hunting them down. The info you gave me in this post is more help than any video on this site so a big thanks to you.

These pics are a couple weeks old. Catching fish but not taking many pics. One shows you can catch nice fish close to base. The other shows a rookie from Nebraska can learn to catch walleye. Fishing shallow bays, all our walleyes have been slot fish. Smaller keepers are expected to show up soon.

    nice fish
You said close to base, what area were you fishing in if you don’t mind telling.
I’m heading up there on the 27th and am staying at island view.

I’ve never been there before and could use some advice or tips where to concentrate my efforts.
    Thanks

Those are some nice pictures and catches, looks like a blast.
Ive never had much interest in any sort of bass fishing but I must say that those smallies are pretty impressive.

Just got back from a long weekend on the far East end. Thanks to Chris and a few others here I gave the shallow water sickbaits top billing and it really paid off. I’m officially a believer. Found lots of male walleyes full of milt that just hammered a flat rap in 3′-5′. Found big pike were roaming the shallows also. No need to stop for minnows next time!

sounds like a good time. Do you know what the water temp is ?
    How was the weather?

Welcome to IDO!! Normally I like to stay shallow a long as I can. Big Fish of all species including Walleyes,Crappies,Pike and Smallmouth will mill around spawning areas until water warms. I suspect this bite will push well into July considering our late ice out. We appear to be around 3 weeks behind what might be considered a “Normal” season. On average we lose our ice on May 1st. Again…….Welcome to IDO and welcome to Rainy Lake. There are many variables to consider for your trip. Your boat and motor, Rainy Lake chip, Water temps, Water levels and so on.

    Thanks for the welcome.

Yep you guys have had a nice winter up there. Im kinda glad you guys got hammered because down here on lock dam 14-17 we had a terribly low level for a couple years, the river is plumb full now though and with all the snow you guys got that hasn’t even melted yet, we will have a good year down here
im not sure what kind of electronics the boat im renting will have, supposedly it does have a fish finder and gps, dunno if it has any lake chips in it.
Im pretty much a flasher user, I have my trusty fl8 that I use but a fish finder will be a welcome addition. I searched some of your threads on here and got a kick out of some of the pics you posted of the large schools of fish you have ran across while fishing.
Im going to see if I can muster up a few extra bucks before we head out and give you a ring to see what your schedule is like when Im up there. Thats a huge lake and a day on the water with you would make for a better vacation for us.
thanks for the reply and ill keep watching your posts for info
    Thanks
