The eyes and mouth don’t look quite right to be a rock bass, but that’s probably what it is. the guy who sent the picture to me knows his fish very well and specifically stated it was not a rock bass. I suspect if we were able to see the skin there would be no question what it is.

Was out today caught 2 15” smb on #7 flicker shad. Several short eyes and lost what looked to be 17” at the boat. Also got a carp on a shiver minnow, that was a good fight. Most fish came on lead core. Does any one know what the smaller fish is?

Logperch, I had a smallmouth cough one up at Bayport last year

Average of once a year for me. I got a warning last year because I had forgotten to put my new boat registration stickers on

There was a lot of high water on area trout streams this spring…probably resulted in a lot of trout ending up in the Croix. I have a caught a couple while walleye fishing over the years

I suppose the only thing that might trouble me is if the crusade continues. Will they next set their sights on Lake Harriet? Anyone know if there is any dirt on Harriet? I fear that if one does enough digging, they can find some something objectionable with just about anything with a namesake. crazy

Turns out that this lake’s namesake, Harriet Lovejoy was married to a fella known as Colonel Henry Leavenworth. While Mr. Calhoun was out paving the way for slavery, Harriet’s hubby was out slaughtering Indians. That’s right, he led troops in the Arikara War and other conflicts, resulting in the deaths of many Native Americans.

That was some of the worst TV I have ever seen. The KARE 11 morning news overall is so bad it is like an SNL sketch of a bad news program. For some reason I enjoy “hate-watching” it for 10 minutes while getting ready. The show needs more Alicia and less of the Candian doofus.

The new wireless Trollmaster is pretty sweet

No cables to run to the helm or to trip over

Probably daphnia, a type of plankton. Bluegills eat a lot of this

A sharp hacksaw blade does a fine job, just take your time.

    Perch – 8″ and up, I don’t ever catch any over 12″.
    Crappie – 8 – 11″
    Bluegill 7 – 8.5″

At that access it is dry ground/sand in the direction from where they were coming from, and it drops into the basin at the access very abruptly. The rear tires are probably on the ground in the picture. Not sure why they would be driving along the shore there, but I suspect the fresh fallen snow covered the sand to ice transition and because the ice is only a few inches thick they went through right away. It doesn’t look like they were actually trying to drive out on the lake.

Casting around river mouths [the Lester River is as good as any] can produce a variety of fish this time of year…loopers, lakers, cohos, you never know what may show up. Plan on fishing early morning, sunset or overcast day. Spoons and minnow baits are good choices to cast. I think Lake Trout season ends October 8 this year, but check the regs to be sure.

The DTs are great baits…but you have to keep them away from weeds. Mag Warts have a square bill and are really buoyant. When you plow into some weeds a Mag Wart will often float out if you pause your retrieve. I usually work the bait by pulling the rod side ways and then reeling up the slack.

Have your tried a Storm Mag Wart? Great action and fish triggering qualities, and they “bounce” off deep weeds pretty well.
