Andy, what was done at these places as far as fixes/repairs? Anyone rebuild the carb? Replace fuel filter? And what color is the fuel line between the tank and engine?

Unfortunately, I have not kept the slips like I realize I should have. Last year other than a spring that was replaced I honestly don’t think Universal did anything. Al’s I now replaced the spark plug and something else, but can’t remember.

Black hose from the tank to motor.

Read the dredge project is starting today. Is that being done at current water levels or is it getting drained a bit?

Here my updated progress with a new hub. Just need to get a new codder pin and I should be wrapped up. Hoping I got it greased up enough. My assembly does not have zerk fittings, so I’m guessing I’ll have to pull apart the hub each Spring to grease up. I got two kits to replace the other, but when I took the cap off it was still we’ll greased. Should I leave as is and shoot some new grease in through the fitting or go ahead an replace that one to? Thanks for all the help.

I’m currently using a St. Croix 7’10” Medium Heavy Fast Action Tip rod. Maybe I’ll stick with that. My other option of what I own is a Shimano 7′ Medium Fast Taper Rod. Though both are equipped with Ambassador 6600 C5 reels, so maybe I will just downsize one of the reels and go with it. Thanks for the feedback.

Nothing super huge compared to some here, but a nice one for me from last week.

Thanks for the feedback Tritoon. Kids stuff will be important as we will have a 11 & 15 year old at that point. I like the sound of the proximity of fishing opportunities as well.

I checked their site and they make no mention of camping availability for lodging. I wonder if they just have a few seasonal sites on hand there.

If you still have openings, I’d be in. Thanks.

I’m doing pretty good Tom. Ended up going over to Alma after all today. Water levels were quite high and the surface was pretty rough. Impossible to fish up near the dam so I opted to try a few new places I had seen other boats at downstream. Spent about an hour or so, with nothing in the boat so I decided to head home.

Wow, can’t believe I haven’t posted on here since 2011. Time flies I guess as I have been wrapped up with other things the past few years. Got out to Alma last weekend with my 9 year old and did ok on the Saugers. Was thinking about heading over there again late morning on Sunday, but maybe I will swing up to fish the marina in Red Wing instead.

Tom, this time a year are you still fishing plastics under a float or no float?
    Thanks.

I was wondering if they were working on the dam when I drove over the bridge on 12 yesterday. Looks really low. Went over to Fishermans for a look as well. One trailer at the landing so wonder if someone was out fishing.

The ice is gone and the Pondy is open, but there might be a lot of trash in the water yet.

I fished again this morning and had little luck finding crappies in numbers. Size was an issue with those caught too. No sunfish whatever.

Late-day may be a better bite with the sunny days we’ve been seeing, but mornings have sucked.

Yep, about a half dozen trucks & trailers in the parking lot and two boats that had just come out. Didn’t stop and talk at all as I had the 5 year old along and we were on the late of getting home.

I’ll try and take the scenic route home today to Oronoco and post an update on the Pondarosa ramp this evening.

Need to get my new light kit installed on the trailer and the Lowrance X51 graph I got from a coworker mounted in the boat and I’ll be ready to go.

Do we know if the plan is to routinely stock Cascade on a regular basis with walleyes or is it going to be more or less a 1 time deal? I know some of those smaller lakes in the southwestern part of the state they stock on a pretty regular basis. I’m guessing its going to be more or less treated as a put and take type lake for walleyes or are they going to expect some type of natural reproduction to happen?

I heard it from a lake resident located near the restaraunt that Jim Peterson of Fishermans has sent a letter ending the relationship with the ski club at the end of this year.
    Can we say bye-bye?

One could only hope. This would be great news.

Just a reminder also, when looking in the DNR Regs for anything Chesterwoods related you need to look under Bear Creek Res. as I believe that is the official name for the body of water. Chesterwoods, I believe is just the name of the park.

What is the purpose of going with the leader? What test should that be and do you feel it necessary?

I believe Fisherman’s charges a few bucks for launches?

I believe fisherman’s has a “donation” box. At least that’s what I’ve noticed. There was nobody jumping down the throat for cash when I launched there the other day.

That is not a donation box. $4 weekdays, $5 on weekends. And so you know, they do monitor license numbers on vehicles.

Or you can inquire in the resturant and get a yearly pass if you know you’ll be using it quite often. I got one a few years ago, but have been using the dam one the past year or so. Not sure what the price on it is now.

Nice fish! Congrats on the record.

I do have a dumb question though…how are records determined on boundary waters? Wouldn’t this beauty also qualify as the MN state record? Can it only be certified in one state? Just curious how that works.

    I was wondering as well.

Wow…..hockey outside, how often do you see that?

University of Wisconsin did it a while back for a game at Lambeau against Ohio State. Here’s a story on that one.

Now I didn’t say that. I made sure Dean was taken care of both days I came over.

I got three dates scheduled off to come over and fish pool 4. Made it over once last year, but didn’t really do all that good. Hopefully I can get it a bit more figured out this year. I’m going to try and get some weekends in as well, but will keep those days for the less crowded Alma area.

Nice report Dustin. I suppose to take my in-laws uncle out fishing and debating between the river and local Lake Zumbro. Seeing the reports I may be starting to sway towards the river.

Also, I heard you on the radio last weekend while I was over in Madison, WI. Great job promoting the Pool 4 fishery and IDA.

Unfortunately, I think Tom’s seeing most of those prior to the first weekend in June.

Thanks for the report Mike. Training schedule is a bit hectic right now so I have to live my fishing experiences through others right now. Hopefully once the big race gets out of the way in September I can get some Fall fishing in.

One thing I don’t understand is why there are so many drownings at Foster Arends and you never hear of them happening out at Chesterwoods. Pretty much the same set up for swimming.
