    Thanks for the update, Tom.

Any inkling when the ramp might be ice-free? I’d like to dunk the boat to double-check its functionality before I sell it.

When I asked the dealer about putting a transom saver on the boat I just ordered, I was told a transom saver isn’t needed. Said the motor mfg recommends against it because it transfers all the trailer’s vibration to the motor. He also said something about the G2 comes with a way to lock the motor trim (I think) in place for trailering. Not sure how to protect against the motor steering itself while trailering.

If they are even going to consider putting a cell phone holder in a brand new 2018 boat they should make darn sure it fits 90% or better of standard smartphone sizes.

Pretty poor design and I think the OP has a right to be disappointed.

Agreed, even though this is a small detail, it seems like an obvious oversight by Lund. I placed an order for a 1875 impact XS late last month and that cell phone holder is about the only thing I don’t like about the boat… Other main thing is the limited cabin/compartment lighting (I can fix that).

I like the idea of trying a Dremel on the cell phone holder.

Otherwise the Impact is one sweet boat! Can’t wait for delivery *woot*

Regardless of your choice, your dealer support after the sale can be crucial. Good luck !

This would be my first consideration and where you fish would be another. Certain areas don’t have a lot of marine mechanics/dealers that work on Evinrudes – for example, if you go out to the Dakotas a lot, you’re going to have a hard time finding support for that G2 whereas most places will have parts and wrench on Merc/Yamahas.

This was a consideration. Both primary areas we frequent have mechanics, then there’s also Houghton Powersports in the UP, where we’ll go on occasion, too.

    Good to see you Deano!

Has any second party ever weighed the new Yamaha motors? I think back to when Yamaha started putting 4 strokes into snowmobiles and their published weights were a flat out lie. I remember at haydays a Yamaha hanging off a scale and it was 40+ lbs heavier than their published weight. Yamaha outboards listed weights are amazingly light. I am curious if they are close to what they claim. The new mercury 150 4 stroke is listed at 455lbs. That is very light for a 4 stroke too.

Weights for 4-strokes and 2-stroke G2s have converged, but I think the G2 weight includes the internal steering feature which adds 30ish pounds. That feature is optional on the non-HO G2s, the other option being TRAC steering.

I ended up ordering the non-HO 150 G2 with conventional steering. The dealer was very helpful and I feel fairly weighed the pros and cons. He also noted there is no break-in period, but that roughly 1 extra gallon of oil is burned during the first 10 hours (I think) of use, then I can expect to use roughly 3 gallons for 50 hours of normal use – roughly $75. Evinrude notes oxygenated fuels are OK to use, but I’m skeptical; however, it’s good to know their use doesn’t void the warranty. Looking forward to the new rig!

There is a video of a 2016/newer 115 merc 4 stroke out performing a 125 optimax 2 stroke on the exact same boat and setup. 3rd party test. Even hole shot was better with the 4 stroke.

The 4 strokes have made leaks and bounds in recent years. Merc maintenance is super easy.

Here is a video of a Evinrude 150 G2 HO outperforming a Yamaha 200. I won’t ever be operating in the same scenario, but it’s interesting to watch knowing I’m in the market for a 150.

Thank you all for your responses. I’ll research more as a result.

One main reason for the new rig is reliability, and I’m beginning to have concerns about the reliability of an Etec, even if the concerns stem from older models.

Would much rather own a reliable motor than one with a extended warranty and a lot of hype marketing.

Reliability is one reason for the new rig, so that’s an important mention. What reliability issues do the G2 Etecs have?

Vikings? I watch them on the radio with the sound turned down.

No, that’s really what I meant to say.

I’ve been already told by one resort owner “whatever dude” when I said I wanted to fish next weekend out of a boat. With the weather looking like it will hold out, We have to come up anyway to close on some property so I’m serious about fishing and was hoping for people’s input about the best way to approach it?

Am I overly (key word) crazy for wanting to tow a boat up to and fish Leech and Woman lakes this time of year?

What’s the best presentation to use this time of year for walleye? Shallow and slow with cranks or jig and minnow?

    Thanks for anyone’s help!

If you are trying to show her ‘normal’, doing it by posting a poll on the internet for a bunch of weirdos to give a consensus is probably not a good start…..

Heh, some good replies here, thanks all. Fortunately, the “weirdos” here are the best source of expert information around. Besides, this was her idea so I think she trusts the response.

I’m running a droid RAZR maxx HD. I wasn’t willing to jump on the proprietary iPhone bandwagon and don’t feel I’m missing out on anything. I just started my 2nd year with this phone and, though I know there is a new model out for the maxx HD, I am not feeling underpowered. The app pool available for droid is not a limiting factor either though there are some restrictions due to the proprietary apps iPhone has.

$30 is a fair price for an annual pass, especially if a $15 gift card is included.

I know my boots are caked with mud by the time I get to some of my stands. The idea of filling the bottoms with that stuff makes me cringe but being warm would probably be worth it.

Use a smart phone and download the c:geo app. Sure makes life easy…typing in coordinates is unnecessary.

Winter blend have a factor in the price? Seems about that time of year. Next spring we’ll be staring at $4+

I’ll gladly exchange my fish bucks for a good mobile experience. Being your roots are in Web design I have little doubt your new design will be mobile-optimized.

    Bring it on!

That is running awful shallow right now. We haven’t had enough rain to wet a stamp recently and the flow there is entirely rain dependent. Small spinners and maybe a rapala in size 5 or 7 could bring a smallie to you. If you have a way to get below the Silver Lake dam and fish from there down to 37th Street you’ll find better water and more variety of fish right now.

Even when it’s not shallow I’m not sure it’s worth the time to fish it unless just for the fact you’re outdoors. There are a few holes between the Mayo dam and the mall but they hold itty bitty fish from my experience. Maybe things get moved down from upstream after heavy rains but you aren’t the only person fishing that stretch–it seems like the ones before you caught supper.

As long as it was in WI it’s OK

Really, it would have been nice to not hear him take so much meat home coming back day after day to stock his freezer but, like others said, he has the right to keep fish (not sure about stocking up for the winter but it is what it is).
