Big storm the crappie fishing has been awesome! There’s a lot of big pike in the shallows as well as Smallies. Action has been pretty good for them also. Walleyes were a little tough last week with the warmer weather, but they should pick back up soon! Good Luck!

    Thanks James! I’ll it again.
Lots of walleyes on the reefs the last week, and also lots of walleyes shallow still in the bays. There’s a may fly hatch going right now, and has been for about a week now which has impacted the walleye bite some. Some days has required lots of moving, and trying to stay on active fish, but other days the eyes are Snappin where ever you find em.
Bass fishing continues to be pretty good, and the top water bite has improved the last few days.
Big pike are still shallow, and there on the main lake points and reefs with the walleyes. More walleyes should be transitioning out of the bays in the next week.

Hard to say Mr.Pike. Depends on how much rain we receive. The lake has dropped over 2 Inches in the last three days, and that’s been with receiving some rain fall. Hopefully it’ll start dropping an inch a day.

Jerrj01 I’m a full time guide on Rainy Lake. Both June and July are good times to fish Rainy. Hopefully we won’t have this high water problem again, and this is the 2nd highest it’s been on record, and the highest since 1950. It’s caused lots of damage to lots of people, but were getting through it, and the lake has crested and is starting to recede. Hopefully be back to normal shortly. The fishing remains good. Since I haven’t been able to post pics on this new site yet until the kinks get worked out. If you’d like to check out some recent pics of the fish were catching go to bcoaonline.com and click the face book link on the home page. I’ve updated pics every 3 to 4 days since late May. You’ll love Rainy it’s an awesome fishery, and the scenery is 2nd to none!

Like the looks and layout of the new site! However it won’t let me load pics for some reason? Anyone have any suggestions?

Jerrj01 walleye fishing the Minnesota side of Rainy Lake in June is Good Fishing! Resorts I would recommend staying at are Thunderbird Lodge, Sha Sha Resort, and Island View Lodge. All 3 resorts are great places and each one offers something a little different. Rainy Lake Houseboats is another option, and are an absolute blast! Check out the web pages of each resort, or Rainy Lake Houseboats, and give them a call. You should be able to find which accommodation best suits your group. As far as fishing goes you can fish walleyes shallow in the bays usually 4 to 10ft using eighth ounce jigs pitching them towards shore, points or cabbage beds, spinners work well also with minnows and crawlers. Casting jerk baits, and trolling raps is also very effective at times. Lots of walleyes on break lines just outside of bays also, and current areas hold lots of walleyes then too. A jig and minnow, or plastics is usually good! Try to book as soon as you can because June fills up fast.

Grindstone, yes we’ve been fishing there, and everywhere from Rainy Lake Houseboats base to Kettle Falls. A lot of the reason those pictures look so calm is because we had little to no wind for about 4 days in a row. If you were sitting in the middle of the lake on a reef it would have looked just as calm.

Hi Moler, it’s always a great time fishing with John and Randy. They already have their dates locked in for next year which will make it six years in a row! If you love to catch Big Smallies then Rainy Lake is a no brainier!

Hi Brian, no I’m not working with Chris. He has his own guide service, and I have mine Border Country Outdoor Adventures. Chris and I are on the same groups sometimes. Have you fished Kab yet this year?

Cc rider, just get up here when you can, and remember they don’t start biting until you get there lol. In all seriousness we’re very lucky to have such an incredible lake to fish, and the entire open water season is good fishing.

I’m not really sure why they are such different colors in different areas or lakes. Could have something to do with stained vs clear waters? I think it has a lot to do with what the bottom structure is. Minnesota side of LOW is stained water, and the Rainy River is also, but the walleyes are much more pale, and they’re both mainly sand or gravel bottom. Seine River walleyes on Rainy Lake are also pale in color. I think they get that color from rock, and mud bottoms, but I don’t really know fr sure.

Tyler for walleyes we’ve been fishing bays and rivers. In the bays we’ve been pitching jigs usually eighth ounce toward wind blown points, submerged rocks, and wind blown shorelines. Long lining and dragging a jig behind the boat has also worked well on the calmer days. Key is to move slow, and let quite a bit of line out to get it away from the boat. In the rivers best bite has been right on the edge of the current, or the slack water. BFishNTackle pulsRpaddle tails, and trigger x paddle tails have been awesome! Jig with a minnow has been deadly as well.
Slabs have been in the pencil reeds, and submerged rock piles near spawning areas. Slip bobbers in 2 to 4ft with a 16th ounce jig tipped with a minnow has been the best for us.
