I use a Flambeau tactical case. It is 41×14.5×5. Has 4 plastic latches. Works great for ice rods. Usually get them for around $50.
Sounds like a great option. I was just looking for something shorter.

Has anyone tried the Trophy Angler Black Widow hard sided case? I saw them at L&M last night for $99. Trying to decide between that and a Plano AW gun case. Thanks
I see why you were frustrated but I would understand it more if he had asked you to find him one then said “no I’m buying this Lowrance instead”. I have asked people before what graph/rods/reels etc they recommend and if they know of any deals, only to realize I don’t want to spend the extra money at that time. Looking at graphs is exciting and fun to imagine on your own boat, but sometimes cost and technology intimidation can outweigh that. I hope you still fish with him in it, he’s probably excited to have not only the new to him boat, but a new friend too.
Get it fixed bud, that is a beautiful truck. Unless you have several claims, your rates won’t go up enough to make it a problem. You pay for coverage for years and years and probably never use it.
If you are up for a 2.5 hour drive or just ever get the chance, take a ride to Parker Arizona and play Emerald Canyon.
I just saw that hub shack out there and snapped a pic from work. Still a 10mph west wind….
There was a shack back out there fishing this evening, about 12 blocks south of where that crack happened.
My wife orders enough crap from Amazon to build a small village out of cardboard. I use that to clean fish in the kitchen. Toss it out with the guts when I’m done.
We play “in between”. You aren’t allowed in the shack/cabin unless you have $20 in quarters and a back up wad of cash.
Anyone ever have a Shamrock pizza in Superior, WI? It dang near encompasses all of those if you can believe that. Thinner crust with the flavor and consistency of a regular crust or deep dish. It’s amazing. You can feel your pulse in your gallbladder after you eat it.
Check underneath the machine. Next to the drain plug. I believe some Polaris’ have them located there.
Oh man bud save yourself a couple hundred bucks and do it yourself. There’s for sure a Youtube video on how to do it.
I put on my alphaburly’s and slop around in it all day. I pack really light since it’s barely above freezing and hole hop a lot. Keep everything in an otter/jet sled. One of the best fishing trips I’ve ever had was last January when northern MN lakes had slush up to your shins. Every single reservation except ours cancelled at the resort. We slopped around all weekend in the slush but had the entire lake to ourselves, literally never saw another person fishing. The fishing was outstanding
Years ago when I was young and without electronics I would drill lots of holes as soon as I got to my desired spot. I would then use an egg sinker to find bottom. One dead stick would be set to 1.5 feet off bottom, one set to 3-4’ off bottom, third rod was a jigging rod to make noise and hopefully attract fish. I kept a mental note of what the depths were in each area and adjusted accordingly when I would move. While hole hopping I always had one of the dead sticks and the jigging pole with me. Punch holes in groups and it’s pretty simple.
Keep us posted. For what it’s worth I would pick a lake with a basin that’s easy to break down and punch a bunch of holes in.
I would also suggest spending $15 and download Navionics. That might even answer your “which lake” question itself.
Reviving an old thread here but I wanted to share something I found. I was at the local firearm shop and found a pair of Manzella Upland Shooter gloves for $15. The palm side is fake leather and the top side is a rugged briar resistant material. They have 40g of thinsulate and are surprisingly warm. I would call them water resistant but not water proof. I could still feel bluegill bites on a light Fenwick while hole hopping. I will attach a link to them.

I use the Jet Sled one…less expensive than an otter sled and works just as well in most circumstances. Cut a piece of PVC to slide the rope through while towing with the sled or wheeler. I’ve been happy with mine if I’m walking in with a quick fish hub and gear
Sometimes peace of mind is worth more than what you paid for it.
I am a huge fan of Darn Tough socks. They are the only brand of socks I will wear…everything from sport socks to merino wool socks. They are not cheap but they’re worth every penny and more and they come with a lifetime warranty. I’d be shocked if you don’t like them.
For anyone that was on the fence about this rod I got a chance to use mine today for the first time. I went to a lake that’s usually my first trip out each year…tons of crappies, but none bigger than 10”. The Fenwick I bought is a “light” so it’s definitely a feel type rod. I had no trouble detecting bites, and the orange tip helped determine the really light bites. I was very impressed with the transition during hook set. It drives the hook home and is a real joy to fight fish with. I’m looking forward to catching some bigger pan fish with it. I find it to be well worth the price.
Has anyone bought the 36” Plano AW Tactical case? My longest rod is 32” so I know they’ll fit length wise but seems everyone gets the 42” one. I’d love to save space in the sled if the 36”er works well. Thank you
PmB is right. I ordered a 30” light for $64 on Amazon. Very reasonable I thought.
I work in healthcare and have started countless IV’s over the years. My favorite way to take someone’s mind off the needle is to hold up the package and read out loud “sharp end toward patient, dull end toward nurse” as if it were in the directions. It gets a laugh every time and that’s a win when someone’s not having a great day.
I made a sirloin tip roast Sunday for dinner….tomorrow it shall be a sirloin tip sammich!
Congrats on the Honda purchase. I was in the same boat last Nov. Had my heart set on a King Quad but ended up with a Rancher. Couldn’t be happier with my Honda.
A good car salesman will help show you how to do all the tech stuff in a new vehicle. If they can’t I would ask them to find someone that can. Also, Cadillac is frequently ranked at or near the bottom in Consumer Reports reliability rankings. It’s a bummer since they are extremely comfortable.
