Yeah I did it when I was a kid. Before I knew better. It’s potentially dangerous no matter were you hang your line. Who knows where that fish is going to go. Really it’s insane to fish off a bridge with boats going underneath. And no place to fish off shore? Not to be combative but I have thousands of shore spots within 50 miles of home if I need them. People who say there’s no shore spots just aren’t happy with the ”one” they are at and want ”that one” over there that’s private. When there’s probly no fish ”there” either. Besides, catching fish is only part of the overall experience of fishing. Unless it’s for a daily food supply for your family and nothing else.

In the simple meaning of the term, yes there are. Because of the reletive slow current and overall depth in the croix the Corps of Engineers really didn’t need to put many in. Leaving out the fact they were useless without faster water. After barge traffic stopped in the early 90’s, channel maintenence basicly stopped. Real simple to find them though. If you see it’s pretty shallow near shore (look near navigation bouy’s) and there is a good current, below stillwater, there’s a chance it needed it. I think 1989 was the last time they dredged the channel. I know this year they were doing a survey of the channel conditions to see if it needs dredgeing. I’d say it will be needing it based on what I’ve seen happen in the last decade or so. So expect some changes at your favorite honey holes soon. My question though to you is this. Why look for wing dams when all the dredged material stacked everywhere from bridge building projects is so productive? That’s where the fish are.
