I would like to see the choice to buy an extra line stamp. Added revenue could also help pay for even more musky and walleye stockings (species I dont even chase), but have keep the lakes productive to keep folks off the river.

Channels cats are the gateway drug of bow”fishing”. It will only lead to harder things. Just say no!

This whole bowfishers want something for their table….Well eat carp.

I also hear the sumo channels are biting on the Minnesota River, upstream from Jordan.

Don’t be afraid to fish shallow at night. Shallow shelf next to deep water, add in some wood, you’re in business.

Depends on what kind of line you are using. Super line… Doesn’t take much at all to set the hook since there isn’t any stretch. Sweep hook set.

Heavy Mono…I don’t think you can set the hook hard enough with that since its like fishin with a rubber band. Full on bass master lip rippin hook set.

A good night is one were you are out fishing. If you have good company then you have had a good night. Fish are just a bonus…some times the bonus is big and other times its zero.

Perhaps hitting the handle while casting, engaging the spool or perhaps casting hard enough to jar the handle into engaging.

The biggest channels I have seen caught on the Mn have been on live bullheads. I get a few nice channels every season on em.

    Thoughts?

I think it sounds like a new and exciting way to lose tackle if done on the MN river, but perhaps on the Croix or Miss it might work…and it does sound like work.

I talked to a guy from South Africa online once. I’d like to go there if I had the miracle trip to where ever. You see a lot of stuff on South America but Africa? The guy had a big wad of feathers so he could catch little ones on a flyrod. The fish looked somewhat like this but these pics are crappy. web page

He said they came up to sun themselves and you marked the place then went back and caught them with like 8# baits.

I don’t remember the name of the series but it was filmed for the BBC for the British Discovery channel I think. Big Fish Safari or something but they fished for several species of giant African catfish as well as Nile perch and other monster fish. Was really Cool. Drifting by lions, hippos, elephants and giant crocks while drifting huge pieces of cutbait for large cats.

I have always like weighing the fish myself. I can do that faster than using a tape measure. Perhaps I am just not as proficient in measuring fish but it always seems to be a wrestling match so its a quick weigh, pic, snap and release. I do always have a measuring tape along… It helps me boost my ego when fishing in league.

I dont do it much anymore but I used to break the spines with a a wire cutter from a needle nose but leave them attached. I dont think it makes any difference. Like pug said Having a big hook in the back is prolly all you need.

I used to use circle hooks elusively and have done well but I switched to kahle a couple of seasons ago and have done even better. But as far as advice goes not much to say besides you win some/lose some. Only thing you can do is experiment.

Let a few bullheads sit in about an inch of water in a flow troll for a week with a little bit of garlic and bingo…Tangy Gravy.

Use for a dipping sauce for fried chunks of a 40lb+ flattie belly meat make sure to throw the rest of the fish away!
