Congratulations on your new toy! I’m sure you will get great use of it considering the fuels and oils out there.

@Biggill …Your material is Aqualon or Aquatop. Probably the most used matierial I made covers out of. Good price point for durability.

Sunbrella is probably the top of the line material that will cost you the most, but last you the longest. It can be retreated for water repellency years down the road. Usually by then, most people choose to replace the cover. Sunbrella also has premium colors that come with a premium price.

Topgun material is thick also but can be generally stiffer overall.

I used to make custom snap-on covers for 12 years. Mine is currently 9 years old and in great condition. Prices will obviously vary. Material is a big factor.

I recommend spraying silicone on the snaps once a year. Do not spray it on thick as it can cause the snaps to come undone when traveling down the road. The silicone spray helps in preventing the snaps from breaking off.

If the school she is attending has its own Police Department, I would check to see if the school has defense training such as R.A.D. These classes are typically free. Maybe the Duluth Police Department conducts some sort of self-defense training as well.

If you are leaning towards what people call Mace spray, please do some research on the different types of spray and the intended affects.

Grew up in Iowa and live here again after I retired from the military.

If you’re driving around with your arm hanging out the window at -10F, you must be an implant @Iowaboy.

My dad walked to school up hill both ways in a t-shirt and holey jeans with no shoes or only bread sacks over your feet at -10F. If you haven’t, you ain’t an Iowan.

Truth be told, I used to love to hear of my dad tell me stories of his childhood. I remember my grandma having newspaper on the walls of her house as wallpaper.

I love to hear my mom tell me stories of my grandpa giving her, my aunts and uncle, and other country kids a ride to school on the horse drawn hay wagon with hay bales piled up around them to protect them a little bit from the Iowa winter snow out in the country on the country roads, all the while being given a horse drawn ride to school in a one room country school house with a wood burning stove. She is 86 years old and ocassionally walks 16 blocks round trip to go to the local Casey’s convenience store. She doesn’t complain. She just does.

We’re not satisfied enough to control America. We have to control everyone else. There is no live and let live. This goes for Russia and any other government that wants to have control. But, IMO, we cannot control Russia, North Korea, or Iran if they have nukes and have a ruler willing to use the nukes. Long range nukes are an equalizer.

We haven’t been in a war to win it since WWII, and we haven’t won a war since WWII. I may be incorrect, but I believe it was Gen Patton that said something to the effect of you win a war by killing more than we have being killed. Sorry, not looking it up. Don’t believe we have won anything since trying to win the “hearts and minds campaign.”

U.S. motto used to be: “Superiority through superior fire power.” Maybe it still is. It used to be that way until other countries gained nuclear weapons. You cannot bully someone who will not be bullied. Putin may just be that person who cannot be bullied. Ex-KGB agent. Are we ready to go nuclear? He may be.

Brittney Griner broke the laws of another country, like it or not. If you are not educated enough to understand that, so be it. Then you must be okay with a federal or national police force and doing away with local law enforcement forces whether it is police, sheriff, or state patrol/police. You may want to educate yourself on countries that have such national or federal police forces and the affects they have on the country.

I lived in the Philippines for three years. They had and may still have a national police force. Pretty corrupt from what I remember. We were there from 1986 to 1989. Wife was stopped by them while driving with a friend, and the officers were easy to pay off (bribe) for a “traffic violation” because they were under paid and very easily assassinated. It was not uncommon to hear of a local police chief and/or their family to be assassinated while eating supper.

I guess you would be okay with paying off police officers on a traffic stop instead of traffic violations being controlled at the state level. Can you think of the money the officer could generate conducting traffic stops? I guess you would also be okay with the local police force entering your house without a search warrant to ensure you are generally following all local ordinances and laws.

As far as marijuana use goes, it is a drug. Period. As a drug, like all drugs, it affects everyone differently. It affects the body and judgement. Learn about drugs and their affects on the body, especially when it comes to judgement and driving. Not much different than using drugs, including alcohol, judgement, and raising children. I don’t want people on the road under the influence of marijuana or another drug. Accidents with drivers under the influence of marijuana or another drug across the country are up. Habitual users have the drug in their system longer than no-habitual users.

And just in case you want to judge me, I was adopted at birth. My birth father was killed by a drunk driver back in the 1960s before I had the opportunity to meet him.

I was in a strip bar by the age of 10 with my adopted dad. I wouldn’t trade him for anyone. With over ten bars in my little town growing up, I had three of the telephone numbers of the bars memorized so I could “find my dad and get him home for supper” when my mom told me to find him. My dad bowled, and the bowling team used to travel with a keg of beer in the back of the van going down the road. Yes, they drank the beer going down the road. GASP!!!! Be careful of what you ask for.

Brittney Griner broke the laws of Russia. Don’t want to be in that position, don’t do stupid stuff that puts you in that position. Especially in another country. If you think her sentence didn’t go with the crime, look at countries that execute people for possession of marijuana or other drugs. I would say she is fortunate that she was not in a country that executes people for drug possession.

Should we be spending what we are spending on Ukraine? I believe Biden is proposing or is asking for 8 billion dollars to be sen to Africa to prevent them from using coal. Eight billion dollars is a made up number to me that has little to no meaning. I can’t keep up and in the words of my wife, “I don’t watch the news. It is depressing.”

We’ll be up at Wheeler’s the second week of January. @Dutchboy, pm me since you aren’t so far away. Maybe we can get together for supper at Ballards after a day on the ice. The older I get, the less I like to argue. Take’s too much time. I can’t imagine being 80 years old and wanting to argue with anyone. I’d rather do something else.

Found this recipe on the net but can’t remember exactly where I found it to give credit.

HONEY and RITZ CRACKER FISH BATTER

    Ingredients
    • 1 large egg
    • 2 teaspoons honey
    • 2 cups crushed Ritz crackers (about 45 to 50)
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 1-1/2 pounds walleye fillets
    • 1/3 to 1/2 cup canola oil
    • Optional: Minced fresh parsley and lemon wedges

    Directions
    1. In a shallow bowl, beat egg; add honey. In a shallow dish, combine crackers and salt. Dip fish in egg mixture, then in cracker mixture; turn until coated.
    2. In a cast-iron or other heavy skillet, cook fillets in oil over medium heat until golden and fish flakes easily with a fork, 3-5 minutes on each side. If desired, top with parsley and serve with lemon wedges.

Haven’t tried it yet, but my wife loves to use honey in her tea. She also likes to eat fish, so we will give this a try. It sounds good, and I like RITZ crackers for breading anyway.

Some businesses here in Iowa have had them stolen because of the lead in them. Might be able to sell them for the lead. Not sure what they’re worth.

You would be just one part in the criminal justice system: the reporting party. You never know if it would get investigated, if anyone would get charged, if it would go to trial, if it would get plead out, if the subject would be convicted or something other, or what the sanctions would be if found guilty or plead guilty.

    Good luck in your decision.

Gaining safety encourages corruption. Absolute power is absolute corruption. The more power, the more corruption.

It makes it easier for those who want power and control to take away freedoms all in the name of safety…a little at a time. All the while giving themselves more power and control. Fear-mongering. When did you stop being responsible for your own safety here on the ground and why?

Every time you gain a little “safety”, you lose freedom.

With every new law, you make a new class of people criminals. JMO for my experiences here on earth.

Well, lift the jug so the source is in the opening of the jug. It plugs the hole and quiets the sound. Don’t forget to leave a slight opening for air to escape.

I get the gas Vs diesel cost but that doesn’t account for the life expectancy difference. Guy are happy to get 200k on a gasser, I see over half million miles on each of my diesels and still running strong.

This…..I got tired of trading in every four years. Looking to get ten or more years out of my diesel.

I own an F150 3.0 liter diesel. Other than losing towing capacity due to suspension issues, I prefer the diesel. I change oil every 7500 miles and fuel filters every 15000 miles. Mileage equates to about 22-24 mpg without towing. Towing, like anything else depends on wind and what you’re towing. I put about 20000-24000 miles a year on a truck and wanted something to last longer than 4-5 years before it loses trade in value below what I’m willing to accept. I have a 2020 so it is still new with only about 44000 miles. It’ll tow 11000 bumper pull weight and 7500 5th wheel pull weight.

There is so much unknown. People know what is reported on the news. If you believe all that is on the news or social media, you’re in trouble. Those in the know shouldn’t be talking about an active investigation. There is a lot of time that goes into an investigation and a charge. Things are not always cut and dry as the media or social media portrays them and you might think they are. Innocent people are found guilty, and guilty people are found innocent. Good or bad, it’s our judicial system. If it goes to trial, who do you think is sitting on the jury? Just some thoughts.

This is what I was looking for. Where there is a will, there is a way. Just have to find it. I believe the bench seat is extremely heavy and would like to replace it with aluminum and plastic to lighten things up. Somebody here has had to have done this before. The sled as is is very hard to pull without a Smitty sled. Thanks for the tips.

Hope you caught something worth the trip. Would you do it again?

The Glock has three safeties: trigger safety, trigger bar safety (can’t see it), and firing pin safety (can’t see it either). My Glocks get inspected annually. Cleaned after each training/range session. All OEM parts. My experience is they are the easiest to work on and change parts when needed.

All that being said, my favorite pistol to shoot, that feels the best in my hand, is a S&W M&P 2.0. I have replaced the OEM trigger with an Apex Duty/Carry trigger. I found that with the OEM S&W M&P 2.0 trigger, my finger walked across the trigger with fast follow-up shots.

However, when I tried the Apex trigger in my Glocks, I could not duplicate fast follow-up shots. I went back to my OEM Glocks triggers.

I like the red dot optics (RDO). I have a Trijicon RMR. Trijicon makes the RMRCC for smaller pistols and concealed carry, hence the CC. Have not shot a pistol with a RMRCC yet. Just smaller. There are many advantages to using a RDO. I think one can argue for or against RDOs in any given situation.

I can see why people like a visible safety lever on the exterior of the pistol slide and frame, but unless you pull the trigger while the safety is on, you still have no way of knowing whether the visible safety is working or not either. If you are pulling the trigger (testing) on a pistol with the safety on you really only know that the safety worked at that moment. There is nothing to say the safety won’t fail after you tested it. You cannot see the internal safety parts either.

A lot of it comes down to what someone is comfortable and confident with.

Based on my experience, Glocks have a reputation to fire when needed, but like anything else, it can fail. Anything can happen.

I have never shot or owned a Hi-Point pistol, but I have heard they have a good reputation for firing when needed. Mostly the negative I have heard about Hi-Point pistols is the looks.

@MNdrifter What additives do you use? How long did your truck sit before starting?

    @iowaboy1
    I agree about our diesel.

    @Randy
    Wieland I agree no biodiesel.

Forgot about the possibility of the DEF freezing up too. I bought the diesel because I put a lot of miles on my truck each year. Like I said, still learning about the diesels. It’s going to Baudette and being driven out onto the lake. We’re just day fishing and not staying in a sleeper shack. Have to wait and see what the weather forecast is as it gets closer to the end of January.

I’ll be in Baudette. Taking the truck on the lake is my concern. I have a generator and jumper pack. May have to bring it with.

The temps up there are and can be pretty brutal. This week is pretty bad, especially with wind chill.
