I don’t have a truck – I drive a Nissan JUKE (with a turbo) And I’m not a “guy”. But, my husband just got a new truck and has his eye on the “Fishoflage” seat covers. They come in several different species. He is leaning toward the walleye (you can google them). I think they are pretty cool. Just my .02 cents…

We were just at Spider Lake a few weeks ago. Unfortunatly, I don’t really have a much of fishing report because it was a FULL-TIME JOB battling the biting flies. I read something on IDO not too long ago about some product that is suppossed to work really well for them. I don’t remember the name of it but I do remember that you have to spray it on your clothing, boat carpet, etc. because you can’t apply it directly to your skin. Not sure if the biting flies are still bad up there but you WILL want to be prepared for them if they are. Have fun and good luck fishing!
May 11, 2011 at 12:40 am #965027Deano,
I am so sad to read this news. I hope the “JACK” who is taking over managing the resort knows he will NEVER fill your shoes. That would be impossible! Thank you (from Andy and I) for your great company, fishing tips & stories, and most importantly – your friendship.P.S. Call me if you are ever looking for someone to fish with – you know I am always trying to fish the river (and with Andy’s new work schedule, that is nearly impoossible for me). I am happy to pay for gas, bait, food, beverages, insurance, whatever… Take care my friend, Ro
April 2, 2011 at 12:51 pm #953347When we built our house 7 years ago, we built the 3 car garage so it was big enough to fit the boat (28ft x 30ft) And of course the garage has an 8 ft. wide door on the third stall, insulation, heat, hot and cold water, a floor drain, tv, all the extras. Now, it’s packed full and we are talking about building a shed…
August 8, 2010 at 12:13 am #891739Nice EYE! Would you mind sharing where near Palisade you were when you caught that monster?? We have a cabin on the Mississippi right outside of Palisade… We’re going up there on Thursday afternoon and I certainly wouldn’t mind trying to get something like that for myself.
June 2, 2010 at 12:34 pm #876699When our son was less than three years old, we set him up with an ice fishing rod and reel combo. It was nice and short and easy for him to manage. Plus, he learned how to use an open-face reel right away. Now that he is older, we have “upgraded” to a 4ft. Guide Series rod from Gander Mountain with a Pflueger President reel (my husband plans to use this for panfish when Jake outgrows it). One last thing… DO NOT forget to put a rod float on (we got a 3 pack at Cabela’s for $9.99) because I can assure you- the rod and reel will take a trip or two into the drink!
April 21, 2010 at 12:36 am #865540I’m thinking that we won’t be trying any of these products. As my husband says, “are you trying to drive the boat into the cab”?? Yikes!! Just imagine what “a product” would do…
April 21, 2010 at 12:27 am #865537Where should I send the check?? Just let me know and I’ll get it out in the mail tomorrow…
April 17, 2010 at 11:53 am #864612My husband is the one who has “extension cord problems” at our house. Just this past winter he:
1. Ran over one with the snow blower and chewed it all up.
2. Ripped one out of the outside outlet when he forgot to unplug it BEFORE leaving the driveway and then, proceeded to run over it again which unplugged it from his car-where it sat in the road all day… AND
3. Pulled another cord out of the outside outlet (again-BEFORE leaving the driveway) and drug it down the road for about 5 miles before someone let him know.PS If you ever see us on the river, don’t mention this.
April 17, 2010 at 1:37 am #864568I am known for putting 10 lbs. of stuff in a 5 lb. package. So, what is the proiblem with stretching a cord a little extra bit?
April 8, 2010 at 12:10 am #861856It was almost 4 years ago that my husband and I said goodbye to our 10 year old black lab, “Tigger”… and it was not easy. There is hardly a day that goes by when I don’t think about her. It really sucks when that time comes-please know that you are in our thoughts.
April 6, 2010 at 11:38 pm #861402We just took a paper nest out of the biggest tree in our back yard and gave it to my dad (at his request). He trook it apart and “harvested” the larvae for pan fishing… might want to try that….
April 4, 2010 at 2:50 am #860461I have had the good fortune of catching some VERY nice walleyes over the years and it has never occurred to me to keep any of them-to hang on the wall. With the replicas that can be made these days, I don’t think I would ever keep a big fish to have it mounted. I have a 4 year old son and look forward to the day that he can catch one of those NICE BIG walleyes. He caught his very first walleye (all by himself) just before he turned three years old and has been “hooked” ever since. I can’t wait for the day to witenss his excitement when he lands his personal best!
April 4, 2010 at 2:25 am #860457That’s a real nice carp! I have not been lucky enough to catch one of those yet this year…
April 3, 2010 at 1:31 am #860243Dean,
You think that was fashion??? Just wait until you see my matching rain gearApril 2, 2010 at 11:23 am #860012No, I didn’t have just one. I just wasn’t bright enough to put another one on again until the end of the day… Most of the folks around us were using live bait and baoting way more fish. So, I did the stupid thing and switched to live bait. It was a good lesson learned!
April 2, 2010 at 1:45 am #859926Yep. Thanks for the tip Dean… That is what I was using today when I caught my first fish (a walleye of course) with my brand spanking new Pink Pearl St. Croix rod (by the way-I LOVE THAT THING). After that, I got the Firecracker/Chart stuck in a tree and tried other colors all day, without much success. All in all, it was great day to be fishing-after all, any day of fishing is always better than a day at work…
March 29, 2010 at 11:19 pm #858643Congrats on your new boat! I agree, you can’t beat a Ranger. There’s just something about that ride… Even if you’re not catching anything (like we usually aren’t) its still a great boat for sightseeing, happy hour cruises, and sunsets!
March 27, 2010 at 12:31 am #857684My best suggestion – book a day with Dustin Stewart and save the baked goods (although Dean at the resort appreciates them-cookies are his favorite from what I understand). You won’t be sorry! The picture in my avatar is one of two 9lb.8oz. fish I caught on the same day with Dustin. You can’t go wrong.
March 25, 2010 at 12:03 am #856988That’s a GREAT carp! I don’t think I’ve ever caught one that nice.
March 23, 2010 at 11:30 pm #856622That is an AWESOMEeye. Congrats! Hey Dean, when do I get to stop by and pick up my “BP pin”?
March 23, 2010 at 12:59 am #856272Dean,
This is “The Fisher Woman” here. Andy and I are more than willing to help if you need it. I’d much rather help at the resort than go to work anyway. Just let us know and we’ll be there. Take care.
