I burn through Darn Tough socks about as fast as I do a regular cotton sock. They are not tough at all and the warranty thing is a PITA. Send them in, wait a month for a code, pick out new socks, wait 2 weeks to get socks.

If I had not invested enough money into them I would just quit buying them/warrantying them, but here I am!

I just sent in 5 pairs about 3 weeks ago and still do not have any reply with a warranty code. The only way to make it work is to have about a dozen pairs and wait for a few to get holes and then send them in together or the shipping will kill you.

I have an X495 which is the 4 wheel steer, but not 4 wheel drive. I have replaced the joints on the end of the steering arms with Heim ends that have grease zerks. Was it needed? No, not really, but I like the ability to grease them.

It has been pretty flawless and by sticking a pin/bolt in the rear end you can disable the 4 wheel steer if you want. I have done this a couple of different times for various reasons.

Overall, I really like the 4 wheel steer and the mower overall. Like someone else said, it is a snow blowing machine with a 47SB mounted on front.

    B-man,

My back deck is getting pretty rotten as well and I have contemplated doing just as you described, but have held off thus far. You didn’t run into any major issues while doing just that back deck? You just cut out the livewell/baitwell holes as they were on the original piece and used the same flange(?) that was on top of both the livewell and baitwell?

If you will hold it for me until this weekend I will come get it. I am located by Sioux Falls and can’t make it there until the weekend.

Same issue for me and plenty of guys I know. The only way I have been able to fix it is to “disable sonar” each time I move. It is a pain in the butt, but not as bad as having to go in adjust the pitch or restart at each hole. I have gotten in such a habit that I don’t really think about it now. Next best thing is to be real careful when you move and keep the transducer orientation as vertical as possible, but for me that is not feasible.

Biggest problem is when it is cold out and you have to take your gloves/mittens off to do it.

All the used vehicles I have bought come with a lot of accessories.
    – gas in the tank
    – tires/rims
    – floor mats
    – window tint
    – nerf bars
    – bed covers/toppers

    You get the idea.

New “breakthrough” vaccine data from MN.

Over the past 4 weeks, fully vaccinated people represent:
    44% of cases
    34% of hospitalizations
    44% of deaths

About 70% of ages 12+ are fully vaccinated.

I’m not going to fact check because nobody likes a fact checker but using only this data, an unvaccinated person is 345% more likely to be hospitalized. In the past 4 weeks.

I should also clarify that I used the % of the entire population vaccinated rather than the 70% used above.

I would really like to see that ‘math’. Approximately 30% of the population is unvaxxed (UV) and 70% is vaxxed (V). Approximately that same 30% of UV is represented in the hospitalization % and yet you come to the conclusion that the UV are 345% more likely to be hospitalized? What am I missing…?

My Terrova kicks out of spot lock at times as well. Mine is a 2018 or 2019 bluetooth model so it is fairly new.

I believe the issue comes from losing GPS signal and there is not much that can be done about it. I don’t know this for a fact, but if I look at my remote after it kicks out I notice that the signal is weak or not there at all. Some places/days it will kick out frequently and other times I can go for months without losing it so it is annoying but nothing beyond that.

The boat is rated for a 75HP, but I believe it is quite common for people to overpower a boat.

Interesting that you were quoted just 4-5K to upgrade to a new 4-stroke. I figured it would be quite a bit more so I had never looked into it. I guess I should talk to a few dealers about that option.

My boat does not have the power steering in it. Your V177 has power steering?!? Was that factor or add on?

The weight is not a major concern for me. I am about 170 and a 4-stroke Honda weighs about 50-60 lbs more than my current motor.

    HRG, Grouse,

No, I am not only looking for a Mercury. I am generally open to about anything with the parameters being 75-90 HP and must be a 4-stroke. I would actually really like a Honda as that is what my dad has on his boat (200HP) and it is a sweet runner. However, I think that may be a needle in a haystack scenario.

I keep looking for a used 4-stroke to re-power and keep telling myself I may as well just upgrade to a boat with a 4-stroke on it as it would probably be a better option. I have a Warrior V177 and there aren’t a ton of those that come on the market though, so I am a little stuck. I’d like to go to an 1890 but that is more $$ and storage will become an issue for me.

I did a little digging and I see that the handles themselves cost around $1k or so on Ebay. That is insane for what it is…how could it cost even a couple hundred bucks for that thing!

I guess if you can find a motor discounted steeply enough it may make sense. However, as HRG stated (maybe sarcastically) finding a used 90HP 4-stroke tiller for a reasonable amount of money is rather difficult. I will continue the search!

Ok, I’ve gotta jump in on this too. I am in the market for a Helix 7 unit and am hoping I can get some insight here. I will try to lay some items out to help clarify what I am looking to do.

    1. I will use this in the boat and will connect to my Terrova US2 transducer so I do not need a boat ducer.
    a. I have a Helix 9 G2N SI MEGA already in the boat and use it for SI and for Autochart (AC)/lakemaster (LM) maps.

    2. I will use the Helix 7 on the ice and want the ability to utilize the maps I have created via AC AND the LM card.
    a. Can I utilize both of these cards (ZLC and LM) in one unit at the same time?
    b. A lot of lakes I fish have zero mapping by LM so the ZLC/AC is the only option. I don’t want to have to swap cards all the time if I don’t have to though.

I think I can get by with a Helix 7 G2 or G3 with the ice ducer.

Well, I pulled the trigger on the Cottage 1200 canvas this morning. I have an old Otter Perch that I believe is the same as the Wild Cottage and then the same as the new Cottage? Measurements are awfully close and it appears that everyone else here had measurements that were off by an inch or two and they fit fine… Guess I will find out for $75 bucks.

I got this Otter Perch for $100 brand new about 15 years ago (??) when they discontinued them. If this canvas fits I have a sweet new shack for $75!

Sorry, it’s a 1998. Mine has the rod that goes through the tube and I have greased it as well. I guess I am not sure about the tensioner. I guess I will have to dig into that and see if I can figure it out. Is it kind of like a nut on the end of the tube that you can screw down?

I have a ’98 V177 Eagle as well. The way I described will work for sure. Just make sure the plug on your TM cord is wired correctly. It’s really not hard once you open the plug up you will see.

There may be other ways to work this, but here is how mine is setup.

You will need 2 batteries. Hook Black 1 and Red 1 to Battery 1. Hook Black 2 and Red 2 to Battery 2. This will send 12V to the socket in the bow and 12V to the stern socket. You will need a Marinco 12/24V plug to wire to the end of your trolling motor cord. Inside the plug you will have to wire to the 12V connection and not the 24V. The plug has an internal jumper that can make 24V in the plug.

Fishing is hit or miss. If you can find some schools of perch you will do good, if not you may not mark much at all. I have found the exact opposite of ejdelvo in the fact that if you do find the perch they are very aggressive and will not have a problem eating big spoons jigged aggressively. It is a massive basin and you don’t have to fish by the crowd at all. South end ice is fine for the most part, but there is some sketchy ice on the SE side of the lake so I’d stay away from that. I drove on from the ramp off 81 and made it all the way up to the heave in the middle of the lake with no issues at all. There is snow on the lake but it is a non-issue if you have 4×4 IMO.

I like the Marcum over the Vexilars and the 5i is better than the old style.

That said, I own three LX5 units and I am constantly having to send them in for rebuilds. I have now sent a unit in each of the last three years. One unit was just rebuilt about 18 months ago and is again out of service. Marcum will not stand behind the product or their rework and it is very frustrating. I will likely be switching over to Vexilar units in the next year or so as I have heard they will stand behind their products. It is too bad as I like the Marcum units but can’t justify dropping $100 on shipping/rebuild every other year when the whole unit costs $400+/-.

Thanks brad-o, I was looking for the whole report on each lake. I will look at the netting data as that is obviously quicker and easier for them to compile.

Poinsett, reid, piyas. The 2015 net data is out and it does not look to promising for the future. I found many sloughs north of Roslyn full of 5-8 inch perch last winter with a hand full of 11-13.if the small ones grew there will be good fishing.

Brad-o, where are you finding the 2015 netting data? I do not see it on the GFP site.

    Thanks

Thanks for the tips guys. We are just looking to hop in with a guide for a half day and we would prefer to fish on Superior and target some fish we can’t catch in South Dakota.

Anyone have any guide service suggestions?

So, from the responses it doesn’t seem as though many people have truly tried this. With some math provided it looks like I would be removing about half the amount of ice by switching to a 6″. I don’t see how this won’t speed up drilling. The reduction of weight by 2 lbs is probably somewhere around a 10% reduction, so that doesn’t seem to be negligible!

I want to try it, but don’t want to spend the $120 bucks on it!
