My 100 just went to a new rubber coated net for trolling cranks…hopefully it will make for both a faster release and get me back in the water quicker

Ended up buying a new okuma Walleye trolling rod with a counter reel…spooled with the suffix lead core…I tried it out last night out on pool 4…lead core with flicker shads put 4 eyes in the boat, got 2 trolling a 3way……I do have a few more questions regarding lead core….How long of a mono liter do you use?????and is there any rule of thumb or ratio for line length out to how deep you are running?????I’ve heard 5-7ft per 10yards….
April 28, 2015 at 4:57 pm #1538989Thanks guys..I truly appreciate the info….that should be enough to get me started down there…I’m pretty experienced when it comes to river fishing, but I definitely learn something new every time I’m out…as you guys said,I’ll more than likely be trolling cranks til I can learn the area…my navioncs and lowrance insight should hopefully keep me outta trouble….ANYBODY been fishing after dark lately?????was wondering if there if they hit all night… thanks guys

January 8, 2014 at 2:14 am #1378067Go to localconditions.com….type in your city and state, then click on past…it will show you the barometer, wind, and temp by the hour from the current readings all the way back to the seven previous days..best weather history site hands down..
December 29, 2013 at 10:16 am #1374830Was out on the st.Louis river this morning..3 eyes,one keeper…burrr..she was chilly…
December 22, 2013 at 7:12 pm #1373434I totally agree…ive been doing alot of jigging with the new clam psycho shad alot this winter..have only caught a few eyes on em,but im very confident that they are a great attractor lure…if the fish dont strike my shad they hit the deadstick…weird the slender spoons have not been landing me many fish on the st.Louis..they were my go to jig the last few years..
December 16, 2013 at 5:38 pm #1371834I own a nanook and a base camp thermal hub…In my opinion the hub is the way to go..its so much roomier and will fit in the backseat of a car..i would definitely go with a thermal version as well..ive owned a quickfish and a expedition non thermal hub,and would have to say i love the basecamp thermal hub,way warmer, cuts the wind, and there’s little to no condensation build up in the inside..my only complaint is they can be a pain in the butt to fold up when fishing in below zero temps..i picked up a pelican utility sled for 21.99 at l and m fleet and with one bungee i can pull out all of my gear on it,shack and auger included..
December 16, 2013 at 1:20 pm #1371778Real murky water..ive got the glow and red,the chartreuse shiner, and the tiger perch colored one..i usually do well on the gold slender but they havnt been landing any fish either…doing real good on the deadsticks with white glow demons with a red dot…kinda weird, the eyes will aggressively chase em,but wont bite em,even.on the drop..like i said though, they definitely bring fish to the area
December 16, 2013 at 5:53 am #1371649Tried a ton of different motions, a light jig makes the shad spin in circles..ive also tried jigging it real hard and letting it fall slowly, and they eyes have followed em like 3ft up in my water column, but i can’t get a stike..even tried holding em still after some eyes chased em up off bottom, but they always end up hitting my deadstick instead
December 2, 2013 at 10:29 pm #1368249Nice work tim…rice was alot slower on Saturday..Did you go out from silver fox or the damn???
December 2, 2013 at 10:04 pm #1368248Might wanna wait til next weekend..Saturday’s highs are -2 lows of -17
November 29, 2013 at 9:30 pm #1367594Ha..okay..thanks for the info..i guess i usually dont get too much walleye fishing in in oct/nov…this is the earliest i can remember gettin out ice fishing
November 29, 2013 at 8:56 pm #1367585A solid 6″s…there were a couple wheelers out on rice..just go straight out from the landing..dont go left by the damn..my cuz and i might give the st.Louis a shot…but who knows,we may end up at rice..heres not much for structure out there..i was about 50 yards before the pressure ridge..talkd to another guy at the landing and he had three keepers..that 23″ was the biggest eye ive ever pulled out of rice through the ice
November 29, 2013 at 7:22 pm #1367560Did awesome on rice lake in duluth..kept 4 eyes..including a 23″..and some perch with foreheads…3pm to dark..7ft of water
November 29, 2013 at 9:42 am #1367455GRANT…do you think 131st w would be a good spot to start for early ice on the st.louis???
November 29, 2013 at 9:40 am #1367454Fished rice lake from 430pm to 630pm turkey day..iced two 14″ eyes in thd first 10 minutes, and had one bend my hook in half..then nothing..shut off right at dark..good 6″s of ice..there is a 200 yard long pressure ridge just past the island…I really want to hit up 131st on thr st.louis..but might give her another week..
November 26, 2013 at 4:40 pm #1366854Saganaga is one of my favorite bwca lakes..its huge so you almost need a guide your first time..we travel up there from duluth once a year,Generally in lake may…we usually have our limit in lakers within the first two days, then we switch to walleyes…pulled out a pb 33 1/2″ eye on our trip this year…
November 25, 2013 at 10:27 pm #1366674Grant..Duluth hard water fisherman here..with this early cold weather, have any estimation on when the st.Louis will be fishable???..I work on connors point in the superior side of the harbor and theres not much for ice out there right now..im thinkin the river we be fishable weeks before the Park point side of the harbor will be froze over..
