Run the infloor tubing even if you don’t hook up a boiler right away. You can’t put it in later and the tubing isn’t that expensive.

In advance of retirement, we purchased two lots in SD. One for a new house, (27k) and one for a 40x60x16 shed three blocks away. Because we would be moving eventually, we built the shop first with 422 sq ft efficiency apartment in it to live in while we built the new home. Ive been in construction in Iowa for 50 years and have large network of labor and suppliers available there, but not at the SD property. I had a local contractor put the shell up, and those costs were 29K without windows, doors or overhead doors (20×14 and a 12×8) which i supplied and installed. I poured 5 inches of concrete over two inches of foam with hydronic heat (2 zones) my iowa contractor poured the floor for me, but i set up the pour and installed tge drain, and pex tubing.
    Hired a local electrician.

I did all the interior finishes. Metal ceiling and walls in the shop, drywall in the living quarters.
We used a minimalist for the AC i the apartment.
We lived in it about 15 months between marketing our Iowa property and getting moved. Honestly, it was all I needed to live in the rest of my lifetime. But..
A small acreage came up for sale which we ended up buying that allowed us to build our house and shop on the same property, so we bought that.

I ended up with just over 100K in the 40×60 without my labor, and a few contruction items that were recycled into the shop.

When we bought the new acreage, we started talking about selling the shop. We had 3 people interested. (All business ppl in town) i consulted with a realtor friend and he gave me a price range of what to ask. I split the difference between the high and low and called the perspective buyers. One declined immediately, one said he’d think about it and one said he’d call me back in 15 minutes.. which he did, with an offer to buy 15k higher than my asking price. Which I accepted.

Now, this was at close to the peak of the covid market, but let’s just say I wished I had 10 more to sell.
This purchase allowed me to build a 45x69x16/11 shop on our acreage. Which we lived in for 18 months while I built the house across the driveway.

My advice: build the shop first, or you won’t get it till 10 years later, if at all. I’ll never have a shop, (or garage for that matter) without infloorheat. Don’t care if it pays back or not. There’s so many advantages and creature comforts that make this mandatory for me and my wife.

Wife and I got back into snowmobiling last year with the amount of snow/.We both rode as kids 50 years ago. Fell into a deal. 2006 and a 2007 Ski Doo, 600 MXZ Renegades with Electric start, reverse, studded tracks, heated hand grips, carbides and reverse for $1000 each. The only thing they cost me last year was gas and oil and a battery for one of them. We had a gas.

I have HDSI on the Terrova and can routinely scan and see walleyes at 10 mph, but it takes alot of screen time to get to that point. (plus, it helps to know that they are there to begin with) ) It not uncommone for me when fishing alone to set the boat straight, climb up to the bow and watch the SI. Steer with the Terrova, see a pod of eyes, hit spot lock, casually walk back to the console, pull the boat out of gear, shut motor off while spot lock takes me back to position. Its not optimum, because it takes the boat a fee time to correct itself, positioning wise, but its effective..

Agree with all points mentioned. Bad timing to move it. Just took a hit selling my motorcycle. Hate to do it with the camper also, but it is what it is..

Don Google Cap Kennedy and his Rock A Roo.. Its an interesting read, and Ol Cap put alot of time and effort perfecting that jig head. Molds are nearly impossible to find and difficult to replicate..

Complements to Steve Stanford and Chad Greip. Newest RockARoo pattern called Mississippi Queen. Cap Kennedy would be proud!

Ive had mine on my Skeeter several , and it never would release. Ive changed the angle. moved the winch post. done everything I can think of and cant get it to work. Had to remove the dang thing every time at the ramp in order to unload the boat. Then put it back on in order to load it. Great concept, but I think ill attach a rope to it and use it as an anchor. )

Called both the mattress company and the bed company and the bed company explained the bed pedestal and said we wouldnt need the box spring. The mattress company, when I explained the platform, also agreed no box was necessary, but if we liked a taller bed, they had a 5 inch option also. Were going without for now.. Thanks to all who replied. I think ours will be 27 inches when fitted with beddding.

I have a marlin 512 P and stevenoak describes it perfectly. It kicks like a Mule,(broke 2 nikons (both rated for slug guns) but delivers Winchester Supremes nearly identical each jerk of the trigger. (squeezing is nearly impossible because you know it’s going to kick your a$$) nice thing about it, is you only have to pull the trigger once when there’s deerhide in the Leupold 2×7. Still have it, but also purchased a Savage 220 which is a stellar performer also. I moved to SD so no longer really need either of them anymore.

I know quite a few guys that have been shooting 2d beams horizontally under the ice since the advent of the Lowrance Paper graphs. Successfully They all say that’s the unit to use. Commercial fisherman did the same thing in our area with the same Lowrance paper graph,

Don’t have any idea what’s up their sleeve next, but if they wanted to entice me, put in a lower kHz like 235 for more range. I love 455. While I now have a H12 G1 on the bow with a SI transducer on the Terrova and a S12 G1 MSI on the console, I’d be perfectly happy with my previous units which were a 1197 and 1198.

This screen capture is from my 1198 on the bow

Let me find a higher resolution of the screen capture

If it solves design issues that couldnt be done conventionally, its worth it. Theres always an work around..

SIPS is a nice system. Pretty user friendly. Just make sure you know what you need for wiring or plumbing chases before they put the panel together.

Not sure why foam alone wouldn’t work in the vault. One other way would be to reduce the overall height of the parallel chord truss and put a SIPS panel on the top side or do a drop in SIPS panel with trusses 4 feet on center.

Sent you a DM BMan, mostly shallow foundation options. We’re just in the process of finishing our retirement home . For cladding we used LP Smartside with Diamond coat finish. 8 inch lap and shakes for 2/3 of the gable ends. For stone accent, we chose Versetta stone and it was extremely easy to install. We are also putting Versetta on the fireplace and the back side of the island. We also used Pella fiberglass Windows, and they have been performing well so far this winter.

I know the keystrokes/ menu for the core/helix like the back of my hand. I struggle with the Solix, but fumble thru my way because it’s on the boat. Simple things like clearing trails for me almost take a call to customer support or you tube. With that said , I still love the Solix!

Call me crazy, but I have no desire to ‘upgrade’ from my 1199 si technology.

Once you know how to interpret what you are seeing, the latest generations seem to add very little value.

If I can see a fish on 1199, identify a fish species, I’m not sure what I’d be buying additionally with any upgrade.

So, don’t pass up older generations. You must be willing to take the time to learn how to interpret, regardless of first gen or last gen.

    Screen size matters!!!

You can watch Netflix on your big screen or on your phone. The same amount of information is on each screen. The scale drastically different. You want to scan big areas, that’s a lot of sq ft on a few inches of screen. More screen the more you’ll see within the scan area.

Met the neighbor yesterday, he got more gadgets on the boat and not a darn clue how to use any of the $5k of it.

Humminbird image interpretation, Google it and spend a few hours, days, reviewing.

I stopped fishing blind when I got my first SI unit many years ago, an 898si.
Eye opening!! It can be what you’re willing to put into it.
    [/quote

I totally agree with this. While I did upgrade to a Helix 12 SI on my trolling motor, and a gen 1 Solix with mega, I never use the mega frequencies. I learned to interpret 455 and want the range that 455 gives me. Total game changer for me. It’s more like hunting now than fishing.

I’ve been involved in residential construction since 1973. Mostly custom homes. I moved out of state a year ago in November. Started our new house in November building myself. The bulk of the materials has come from the local yard but occasionally, if I want to work on the weekends, it means a 20 minute drive to Manards or HD to stay productive. Typically, I don’t buy framing lumber or sheet goods there unless it’s a foam product. I’ve been trained that all lumber that comes out if these big box stores is crap, but I can honestly say, that the 4 or 5 times I’ve had to pick up some lumber, it’s been as straight as anything I’ve gotten from anywhere in the past. Just yesterday, I needed 10 2×6 104.625 studs and 6 2×4 104.625 studs. I took everything off the top of both open stacks. No sorting needed. With that said, Menards is closer for me, so Menards it is if I need something..

Ok thanks gander, I don’t live along that route.. I think what reddog was getting at is when you save a waypoint it goes on the graph not the cards, unless you took the cards out and transferred waypoints onto them, which hummimbird specifically says not to do, it should be done a blank sd card.

Yes, thats what I was getting at. Adding waypoints to a Lakemaster chip is a great way to corrupt the chip, and possibly even brick the unit if you cant figure out whats corrupt. Good luck with your sale GP.

reddog, have you tried calling Drotto for any ideas for your situation?

I have a Drotto for an 18′ Lund on a roller trailer. It’s great. I fish solo about 90% of the time. Makes launching/loading much easier.
I also bought hip boots with all the low water last year when I had to get in the water.
Just ordered Ezee Steps yesterday. Last year I experienced several instances when the docks weren’t lined up along side the ramp (I don’t jump to the dock anymore) or not in far enough. After climbing over the gunnel a few times I started bringing a step ladder. That works fine but takes up space in the box of the truck. The steps are spendy but will be well worth. I’m not getting any younger!!

I’m near Sioux Falls but have not contacted them. I’m busy at work and also building a new house so my fishing time is extremely limited. I need to do that though. I’ve had Ezee Steps for 12 years and love them. I also fish alone alot of time but it’s not just launching and loading where they have value. Getting in and out of the boat in the shop is a breez also with the steps.

I have to be the only guy that couldn’t make my Drotto function on my WX1850 Skeeter. I moved the post forward, back. Adjusted the holes, did everything other than cutting my winch post off. It would never release. Every time I ended up taking the bolt out to get it to unhook. Then had to put it back on to load, which it worked fine at. It was just too much torque on the jaws to release. It’s sitting on the shelf now, as I disliked the angst of whether it was going to work or not.
