Make sure you are checking the limits for the boundry waters of Wisconsin/Minnesota (Lake Pepin). I believe the limits are different from others throughout the state of Wisconsin.
September 24, 2017 at 5:59 am #1716812Thanks to all that have responded. Can someone fill me in on this, “Now this is a curious post…?” I have no idea what this means.
September 22, 2017 at 12:11 pm #1716605hnd, I started fishing pool 4 out of Pepin in 1989 and from 1989 until about 2009, we always had good fishing and got our limits. From 2010 until now, we have never limited out and this year I never caught a White Bass. I won’t be back anymore and am actually going to sell my Ranger boat as I was only using it once a year up there for the last 15 to 20 years. Anyway, thanks for your post.
RonSeptember 20, 2017 at 1:39 pm #1716266Thanks, Tom. This is some really fine information. Sounds like we should have been adjusting when we went up there as the weather has gotten warmer through the years instead of continuing to go at the same time in Sept. Too bad I wasn’t smart enough to figure this out.
September 19, 2017 at 5:18 pm #1716090We stayed in Pepin and fished from Deer Island to Reeds Landing on both sides of the lake. We do not fish after dark, so would not know anything about fish busting bait fish. We finally gave up White Bass fishing and caught a few Crappie and Blue Gills until the trim on my motor quit working and sent us home. Thanks for the replies. Apparently the fishing is just as good as it was in the 90’s and I forgot how to fish for them.
September 28, 2015 at 3:43 pm #1568062I tried turning the top and I cannot get it to budge. Maybe I am just too weak? I think I will just tear it out along with the valve and then have a look at it.
September 28, 2015 at 11:36 am #1568018Thanks, Munchy. I have this type in the bilge and for aerators. Sorry for the confusion. The picture was just copied off the internet so I could show what I was asking. I appreciate your help and will give it a twist to see if I can get it apart.
September 28, 2015 at 8:28 am #1567963We fished for White Bass on Lake Pepin out of Pepin the week of Sept. 14. We caught 52 of them on Tuesday and then only caught another 32 in the next 5 days. We never found a shad in the bellies of any of them when we cleaned them even though they were chasing shad when we caught them. We were just lucky we found them on Tuesday. We caught the 52 in about an hour’s time at the start of the narrows toward Wabasha. They just happen to be schooled there about noon one day. Good fishing for an hour out of the entire week. Hoping for better fishing next year. White Bass fishing up there has been really bad the last 4 years. I don’t know what is going on. I talked with a commercial fisherman who told me there were plenty of shad in the lake, but the White Bass were no where near what they were a few years ago. Hell, maybe we fished them all out of there.
September 23, 2015 at 4:29 pm #1567312Well, I got my pump cartridges from Ranger. Went to put them in to only find my boat has the Mayfair part number 23501 and 22101 non cartridge pumps. Now I will have to come up with something else. Looks like a relatively easy repair will turn into a major plumbing job. I called Ranger and they are now sending me Rule cartridge pumps. I am not sure I will keep them. I would like to go to the Johnson cartridge pumps. Attached are pics of the present pumps.

September 17, 2015 at 1:08 pm #1566133Thanks, Boone. I finally talked to someone at Ranger and ordered replacement cartridges for all three pumps. I won’t put them in until I get back home from my Pepin trip. Thanks again for the info.
September 17, 2015 at 11:48 am #1566111Good info, Grouse. I am waiting for Ranger to call back…they probably won’t so I will call them again.
ThanksSeptember 17, 2015 at 8:23 am #1566060I will call Ranger today, but not too sure they will b much help. A couple months ago I needed help with info on the fuel level sender and couldn’t find anyone that knew anything about it. Just not the same Ranger since Bass Pro bought them.
September 17, 2015 at 5:57 am #1566050Thanks for the info, guys. When I am done with the present fishing trip, I will be teckling this job. Thanks again.
September 16, 2015 at 6:42 pm #1566015How old is it and what type/brand are they. Most likely all you need to do is replace the “cartridge” and unplug the old one and plug in the new one. Not very hard if accessible
b
The pumps are the originals that were put in the boat when it was assembled at Ranger. So I don’t know what kind they are. I’m using the boat this week and the pump for the front live well is not working. Fuse is good and pump does not even hum.
I will work on it when I am done fishing this week. The boat is a 1994 Ranger 375V. I was just trying to see how much of a job it will be to replace the pump. I probably would replace both pumps at the same time even though the rear pump is still working. What do you mean about replacing the Cartridge? I thought I would have to replace the entire pumps?
Thanks for any info anyone can provide.September 12, 2015 at 6:45 pm #1565333I guess no one fishes for White Bass up there anymore. Ha! Doesn’t seem like as many people use this forum as much as they did in the past.
August 31, 2015 at 6:01 am #1562918Anybody have any updates on white bass activity on the lake? thanks!
August 20, 2015 at 11:34 am #1560505Thanks for the info, Paping. Hopefully the closer it gets to my trip, the better the white bass bite.
