Fun show! I like those snowmobile rigs. We use a cabbed, tracked UTV due to the family crew we normally have, but definitely like the safety aspect of having two machines out there. My Daughter and I were on a good perch/eye combo bite on the main lake during the same time frame. So many fishing spots, so little time.. =)

The new models have a higher drag rating just in case it’s needed. Picked up two from Marine General this last winter for replacement dipsy reels when they were on sale.

Great job, Browndog! I recognize that cleaning table too.. grin

We were over the 15th to the 23rd fishing from 12 – 40 fow depending on the wind direction and speed and caught fish in it all. Fished MI waters in front of SSP one day with a cranking NW wind and had a blast. Good to have backup locations when making that trip.

Returned Sunday from a week trip to Erie. We fished 7 ports in 9 days primarily in an attempt to minimize wind. The good side – we figured out there’s a lot of walleyes hanging in less than 20 fow along the shorelines, and we didn’t have to beat ourselves up to catch them. Great trip including time spent on the Detroit.

Great show, guys! Question – it didn’t appear like you needed to clear the inside lines when the outside baits were hit. Think adding the 2oz weights helped in that area? Also, what was your water clarity like? It appeared pretty clear in the show. Wondering if perhaps that’s why they were deeper?

For an alternate snap weight technique check out the 50+2 method on Precision trolling app. Very helpful for determining approx lure depth when adding 2oz weights.

Can’t wait for Erie – heading over April 15th!

Early in the season start shallow, and work out from there. How shallow? We will work Red and other systems with the prop kicking up sand, and a small shad or minnow bait only a couple yards behind the prop wash getting hammered by aggressive eyes. Now we don’t normally start in 3′, but somewhere along that first break; and meander deeper/shallower until we start getting action.
There’s definitely times for stealth, but for the most part if there’s any sort of chop an outboard doesn’t bother them a bit; and may attract them.

Switch colors often until you find what they like – assuming you’re using a lure that’s reaching target depth. Preferred color changes throughout the day.

And, regarding depth – there’s a lot of wiggle room there. We typically troll with spinning gear unless we’re pulling boards. No need for line counters, etc for the majority of early season trolling. Cast the crank back, if it starts smacking bottom reel in a bit. It’s that simple.

Warning – you many need to join crankbaiters anonymous like we have, because once you start catching them you’ll be addicted; and the 3700’s full of lures will start adding up! =)

Those lipless rattle baits in the lower right corner of tackle3 pic can work wonders as well in the depths mentioned.

Sweet looking boat, Ed! I was in the same dilemma with the Bimini top. Talked it through with the crew at Canvas Craft, and they made it so it would collapse when not needed. Slips into the center rod locker.. We fish LOW and Lake Mich as well. Absolutely love that fishing top.

The crew at Canvas Craft, Otsego MN, mentioned they’ve made some which come apart for stowing in a rod locker. Might be worth checking into the option to get it completely out of the way when not in use.

Appreciate the input. Quick access from the cab in the event it goes down was in my mind as well when I was viewing the doors. I’ve heard there’s some after market cab options available, so I’ll need to explore that as a potentially more cost-effective option over Polaris add-on’s.

Both brands we’ve been looking at in one shop. It’s a dream come true.. cool

Are any of the SBC/WBC crew heading up to LOW next weekend for the rally?

I’m kinda surprised there isn’t more info on it on the Warrior site, but there’s supposed to be a ride event on Sat.

    Leave archery as is.
Have a youth season or an early muzzle loader they can participate in or both.
Push firearm out one to two weeks, so it likely occurs after the rut (sorry, I was asked).
And, micro manage the intensive harvest areas — meaning our current zones are too large for intensive harvest designation. Our DNR has a way of devastating the herd with the intensive harvest program. I’m sure plenty on this site can attest to their area going from managed or intensive one year to lottery the next. If they want to encourage young hunters at least let them have the opportunity to see a deer.

Cal, Has there been any update on the topic? The big pond would be the perfect location… hopefully with some 2-3 footers. Thanks!

As Bassn Dan said, Wickers is a good, inexpensive, functional base layer. I use the lightweight for general outdoor use. It fits easily under my normal clothes, and provides just enough of a base for active use. For hunting I like camo Merino wool products. I bought a few sets of First Lite from Cabelas when they were on sale (about this time of year), and they’re awesome as well.

Does anyone have pictures of your attaching mechanism, or how the bimini/fishing top is stowed when not in use? Lund stores theirs on the floor. Others lay on top of the rear casting platform, or they lay across the beam. I’m curious what has worked best for Skeeter owners to stow the top (in the boat) when not in use.

Black, Thinsulate lined deer skin gloves. They’re thin enough to keep on while jigging, and heavy enough for running the auger or driving the ATV (with handle mits). And, the black absorbs the heat nicely. They will get wet after a day of handling fish, but will dry out overnight.

I love my tight-locs. They’re strong enough for a dipsy rod, so may be a little overkill for Walleye. However, if you’re considering multi-specie they (or other aluminum holders) may be worth a look.

Hey Bigstick – There should be a few plowed roads for you to use. Woodlands resort should have a road, and I believe there’s one near the Casino for starters. You may also be able to drive on at Grahams Island (call the state park). I’d give Eds Bait and Woodland’s a call in advance if you want to check on lake access.

    Good luck out there!!
