I’m in western South Dakota so the lakes (dams) aren’t very large so it’s perfect for what I need. I recently picked up a couple rod holders for it and they are great to have as well. I’m sure there are plenty of lakes you’d do well fishing in a yak. I used to fish out of a sit in kayak and I must say the sit on top is way better. Good luck in your search, you may find a good sale come later July.

I think you’d be better off finding a cheap boat for what you’re going to pay for a pedal style kayak. I have the same kayak as Crappie and it’s been great for me. I got mine on sale and the end of the season last year. What’s your experience been like so far Crappie?

April 28, 2017 at 9:23 pm #1691273Thanks for the info guys, I have an 11 month old who keeps me pretty busy so electric might be the way to go for me. Any suggestions on models or just make sure it has a thermostat?
January 26, 2017 at 12:22 pm #1668882Thanks for the info guys. I’ve only tried it with the grain and it turned out good. I think I’ll try some against and see if I like it.
January 25, 2017 at 10:11 pm #1668727I used to have a Garmin Dakota 20 that I loved to use out on the ice. Bought a lake master chip for it and I was set. Actually used it out on the boat as well. Sold it a couple years ago after I got a bird Setup with LM. Lookin back I wish I never sold it as it was so handy. Maybe I’ll get another one one of these days.
January 25, 2017 at 7:30 pm #1668665I have lacrosse aeroheads that work really well for me. I believe they are the 1600 gram. They are also nice for hunting!!
June 28, 2016 at 10:45 pm #1626842Thanks for the info guys! I’ll check these reels out in store hopefully soon here. Yeah i’d agree the 20lb is a bit overkill lol.
June 28, 2016 at 9:26 am #1626728Thats a good idea for the kids hnd i’ll have to keep that in mind for when my little guy gets older.
June 28, 2016 at 9:16 am #1626724At my dads place I clean fish right out the back door on the deck. He has a little table setup on there with a chunk of countertop which is easy to take off and spray with the hose. At my place I found it easiest to use a piece of scrap plywood and clean em right on the tailgate of my truck. If your havin troubles with a flashlight get a headlamp there are MANY uses for them besides cleaning fish!
June 28, 2016 at 8:48 am #1626701I will have to check out these reels in store if they have them on hand. It doesnt look like there are too many options for the spincast these days. It was the same deal for me as well, started out on a spincast and it didnt take long before i switched to spinning. I bet almost everyone starts out with a spincast lol. Any recommendations for line?
April 19, 2016 at 11:29 pm #1614622Good post belletaine. I think i am going to go with the same setup as you in the near future. Be interesting to hear more reviews from others.
April 18, 2016 at 10:10 pm #1614281That’s a great read Len, thanks for sharing! Definitely takes a guy back to his childhood and the memories made. We had a couple different creeks we used to mill around in growing up, thinking back on it it probably wasn’t the best place to be cooling off. lol We used to ride bike a few miles from the house to a big hill on a paved road. Slowly work our way to the top then make the big countdown. We’d fly down that hill so fast its a miracle no one wrecked and got seriously injured! Good times…
April 7, 2016 at 9:31 am #1612135I was just thinking about this the other day. I’m RH and with all my spinning rigs I reel with my RH. I never tried switching and haven’t felt a need to but I might just have to now. Ice fishing is a different story, all reel handles I have on the left side…
March 19, 2016 at 10:46 pm #1607924We havent had cable in our house for a couple years now. Work seems to take up most of the day not leaving much time for tv anyway. I usually find myself catchin the weekly ido episode on youtube along with videos by jason mitchell, the lindners, Fish Ed is a good one too. Netflix is a regular for us as well as HBO NOW. I havent found much for hunting other than random videos on youtube lol so i’ll be keepin an eye on this thread with hopes someone will chime in. You can sometimes catch live sports as well through espn or whatever network is broadcasting the games which is nice.
March 17, 2016 at 9:54 pm #1607570I emailed them a couple months back and it took them 2+ weeks to get back to me. I ended up calling in the meantime and got it figured out that route.
December 6, 2015 at 11:22 pm #1582584Although i’ve never ordered from them myself I always see folks recommending Vados. Heck I might have to give em a try!
November 18, 2015 at 8:22 pm #1578109i’d say its mobile enough. i start by drilling a few holes then going around checking them for fish, if nothing i keep on moving. i dont even get the fish house out til i locate active fish! set the shack up til the fish move and start over again. Of course this is all dependent on what your fishing for. Most times while fishing crappie/perch i dont even use the fish house. Walleye fishing i’ll have the house setup though. Little different story there, i hunker down for the morning/evening bite.
October 22, 2015 at 10:34 pm #1572764Only thing better would be a unit with a Lakemaster or Navionics chip. Although I believe there are some maps that aren’t on either of those chips, I could be wrong though.
October 22, 2015 at 1:12 pm #1572659Scheels, Cabelas, all the big name stores have em, i’m not sure you’ll be saving any $ going out of your way to get to these stores unless theres one in your area. i agree with supporting your local baitshop but if they dont have them order em online instead of going on a wild goose chase to find em.
October 22, 2015 at 11:01 am #1572609I would avoid the smoke unless its near an area where fires are frequent and normal to the deer. Just my .02 of course. Report back on how it works out for you
October 22, 2015 at 10:56 am #1572606This has probably been discussed before but how do they get an accurate number of lbs. of fish harvested? Do anglers report each time they take fish home or how does it work? Ive never fished Milla Lacs myself, but would love to give it a shot at some point.
October 21, 2015 at 4:31 pm #1572461Thanks for the info fishthumper, i’ll report back on how it turns out!
