Hands down, FG Knot. Once you get good at tying it, it will be your best knot to join braid to nylon/fluoro.

I used to go uni to uni with doubling the braid over, but had to many break offs at the knot.

I just started making a box for my Rippin Raps. I don’t use the front hook, so this works for me.

Depends how clean you want your laundry. Our laundry room has (4) 4’ t-8’s 6500k and everything pops, every stain and smudge on our clothes is clearly visible. The wife can easily target these stains with stain removers and pre soaks. Our clothes have never looked cleaner since I updated the lighting in this same size room. (4) cans will provide plenty of light to handle laundry tasks, but I vote for more if you want cleaner laundry!

Keep in mind that you will want a light directly over the work area, or otherwise your shadow will cover what you are working on, and that gets annoying when trying to work on something that needs good light.

The reason they fill the stores with clothes, is they have the highest profit margin. It also can apply to a broader range of customers. In FF, clothes bring in the most money for the store year in and out. I found that out while working there in high school. Surprised me then, but now I know why.

I used to like my local GM, but now they do not carry much I need and prices are usually MSRP. Cabelas moved in, and they are a little better. Honestly, I have so much tackle and equipment, that I never have time to use, that I shouldn’t be in those stores anyways☹️

Moving baits, I need to use my dominant hand to reel smoothly, I don’t need the sensitivity, bites are evident. Contact baits, I need to work the rod with my dominant hand, I can’t fish jigs with my left hand on the rod, at all. I can’t reverse them, it just doesn’t work for me.

Spinning rod, I can only reel with my left hand no matter what bait, yeah, I can’t figure that out…

Excellent pdf! I like seeing data like this laid out so clearly and explained this well. Thanks

Fish like all sorts of different shades of colors on any given day. Just because they are not pretty looking to us, doesn’t mean they don’t look delicious to a hungry walleye! I fish mostly stained waters, so I’m not convinced color shades matter as much for my fishing needs. I’m more interested in proper weight, noise level, and contrast to the water. But yes, it would suck to have a certain color you know works well, to fade to another color. I’ll have to go through my hundreds of bags of plastics to see if any of mine faded.

After reading all the great comments, I think I’m leaning towards pro handyman. I have everything I need for it, and can still do glass work. I have an in with several NSP’s that can keep me going well until word of mouth and advertising kicks off.

It’s not a glamour job, but from what I understand, there are more people needing this type of work, then there are people providing it. I’m definitely going to be fighting an uphill battle with price wars, but with solid references, and finding the right people who understand that “you get what you pay for”, I think I can stay busy enough.

My question is, what do people feel about the job title handyman? Some people refer to it as a jack of all trades, and King of none. Or like its bargain rate fixes. That’s not the persona I want, as I am providing professional work, from little repairs, up to full remodels. What can I put in the company name to relay that? I currently plan on using “Pro Handyman” in the name, unless people feel it draws the wrong impression. I do fix everything in a persons house, so I want people to understand that by looking at my name, but I don’t want people expecting $20 fixes when they find my name and call.

    Thanks

My local used to have decent benefits, but now they have drastically went downhill. My brother pays through the nose on his insurance and it covers way less than it used too. At least they voted down the plan for mandatory pension deduction.

I did work in the union and got both of my brothers in, who are still there. A lot of guys there are poor workers, but bodies are so badly needed, they get to keep their jobs. I worked circles around those guys, but got the same pay. Not to mention, unless you were good buddies with the top guys, you were laid off when it got slow. I don’t work and converse or talk the top guys up like my brother does, so they never were my friends and I was always laid off. They want me back, but I prefer to go my own, where I’m in control of my work load. I will go back as a last resort, if needed though.

I have had that problem of finding quality employees because of the union taking anyone and everyone, since the field is picking up like you stated.

Machining had interested me. I could get some equipment and some employees and go that route. From what I have seen happen in the past, as my dad was maintenance in a machine shop, was taking on too big of projects. I currently do not know much myself about it, so I will start researching that.

I live on Lake Wisconsin, near Madison, Wisconsin. I prefer to be self employed, but am running into the problem in my current field where it’s all price wars. Majority of the other companies can not match my quality or use quality materials. In fact I get called to fix other companies mistakes, and the home owner feels sheepish for going with the cheaper guy and finding out the hard way.

I am looking to possibly move out of the construction field altogether. Not fond of competing with hundreds of people that have a van, or pickup truck and use menards material and tools. I use highest quality tools and materials. So I would like to do something that only top quality people are into, and below average joe’s do not want to bother trying to do. If that makes any sense.

I started out with the double uni to uni knot, years ago. It’s a no go for micro guides. I have broke at the knot a couple times as well.

While I like the total length limit, we have to take into the consideration, the entire population of people who are intending to harvest, and their ability to do math well enough. The DNR will not want to rely on everyone accurately adding up the inches. What would be easy for the majority of us, could be hard for a few to add these up. Not to mention, if you have 3-4 guys in the boat and a cooler full of fish, the dnr would have a difficult time enforcing this.

It’s clear as day easy in our minds to do this, but there are lots of people who struggle with basic math in the world.

If the line on your FC is breaking before the knot at the jig, it will be from heat damage caused by friction when locking your knot down. Use excessive lubrication and slowly lock the knot together. If it’s the knot breaking, you can try the Palomar knot, I don’t use it, but it consistently tests out as one of the strongest knots on knot wars. I started using the Fishermans Fool knot, with excellent results, which was another knot war champion.

Just a few ideas to ponder

The length of the FG Knot is the beauty of it. I use micro guides, and because the FG has a very gradual transition in size across that length, I never have problems with my micros. Also, in that length, it provides the grip surface to lock the FC in the braid solidly. Once I found this knot, I do not use any other knots to join my FC leaders.

I like the YT vid KWB posted, but I started with “minimalist fg knot” vid on YT.

TUCR blanks are just solid core carbon blanks, that can be bought at numerous places that sell rod blanks, for far cheaper than what TUCR would sell them for. Only difference in the blanks could be the taper, which you can easily change to your liking with a little sand paper.

TUCR just puts together excellent rods, the blanks are not something special.

Fake or not, this is a sad trend that is currently happening. Across the world, Americans are not liked, for various reasons. In the attempt to be a global economy, the government tries to appease to other immigrants feelings. America today, is not the America our forefathers fought to free and forged the Declaration of Independence for.

Australia has the right approach to immigrants. You are free to enjoy their country, but English is the language, God is part of the country, guns will be allowed, and if you do not like it, you are free to leave.

Sad thing is, we will not lose this country by war or any fight for that matter, we will either be bought out by China, or we will become the minority as non Americans out populate us, sorta like an invasive species taking over an ecosystem.

At some point, I forsee Americans needing to rebel and take the country back. Revolutionary War 2.0. Most likely will not happen in my lifetime, but on the current track, We won’t be flying an American flag in the distant future, unless someone steps up…

I like Uncut, but cannot stand Gillespie. He tries way too hard for the camera and is an absolute spaz, trying to say sponsors names every other word. I did fish next to him one spring, and one the camera was rolling, I wanted to puke. But when the camera was off, he was an average, decent guy. If he just filmed his shows like that, he would be fine, aside from the ridiculous rate of sponsor name drops…

I’d enjoy hanging with the uncut crew, they seem like my type of fun!

If the property is not posted as “no trespassing”, there is nothing they can do to press charges. In wisconsin, we have to have very visible signs all along our property to press charges of trespassing.

I guess maybe Illinois is different? I dunno?

Yeah, definitely get her checked out. I advise seeking a good chiropractor as well. Mine is really adamant about seeing people that are in ANY car accident. Mine is very thourough in explaining what he notices on the X-rays, and how muscles are tense in areas. A simple accident could put one thing out of place, and then cause a chain effect. I had a work injury 15 years ago and never went to chiro. I’m now in an intense manipulation schedule to correct 15 years of wrong. Also have advanced spine degeneration from not having things aligned correctly.

Make sure you do not pay a dime out of your pocket to get your vehicle out of the tow yard. That’s his insurance companies responsibility.

I would avoid a buy back, especially if the frame is damaged. It’s also getting pricier to do buy backs, since salvage yards are buying them back, and they make a killing selling the usable parts.

I’m not sure which insurance company you have to deal with, but I had to deal with a cut rate company when a guy hit me and totaled my car. I take care of my vehicles and they are immaculate. However this insurance company looked in my local classifieds during winter, and took the 3 lowest prices of similar cars to mine (beat up and horrible shape during snow months). They took the average and told me that’s what I was getting. I said no way, that’s $2000 under blue book (was a $6500 car)! I had to submit 3 cars I could find in my area that were similar. I did that, but they declined my vehicles.

I ended up having my buddy write a receipt from his auto garage, saying he purchased and put in a racing motor for $2500… That was the only way I could get close to blue book from them… My insurance company wanted nothing to do with the battle, since I wasn’t at fault… Took 8 months to finally get paid, all along I had to keep paying my auto loan with no car to drive.

Use a LITTLE heat! Pull the tip off with pliers while applying the heat. Make sure you find a new Rod tip with the same size barrel that fits over your Rod tip. Kits come with a stick of melt glue.

Heat the end of the glue stick, then rub it on Rod tip and immediately push new Rod tip on and position correctly. If it’s not on straight, hit it with a dab of heat, and reposition.

Take a big bag and rub it together fast to build up static electricity. Place the bag into a box, then spray 1 color into it. Your best off using 1 bag per color. The thinner mil bags build up the static better than the thicker mil.

My 14 year old brothers each got a turkey last year, and did their own tail mounts. They looked just as good as my other brothers turkey he had done professionally.

So it must be fairly easy to do, and have turn out nice!

I agree with grouse on the nature pendulum, but sometimes the pendulum takes too far a swing out of balance, and can not correct itself. At some point, the wolves possibly could make the trek again in the future, and repopulate. Maybe they were never intended to be there, and it was an anomaly that they made it and survived this long. Like fish in a 100 year flood, finding their way into a puddle of a pond.

If nature never intended their existence on this isle, but the habitat is suitable for sustaining a population, human intervention is plausible. Just is it feasible and worth the considerable cost? Being the determined cause of decline is inbreeding, the wolves introduced would have to be monitored to prevent history repeating itself.

The moose population cannot go unchecked, as that would lead to other problems in itself, so some form of predation would need to exist…
