there is definatley ice up here, been froze out duck hunting 2 weeks ago, and been on the ice a few times (not enough to get to the spot ), this was all before that warm spell we had for a day or 2, but after this storm and looking at the future forecast im guessing ill be on the ice on some of my small lakes by sunday or monday
July 30, 2012 at 1:32 am #1088145Being as young as i am i have had the good fortune to fish it a few times as well with the permission from a nice lady, but she has sold or has been trying to sell the house and since then i have not been able to fish it, when i did fish it with a buddy the large mouth fishing was amazing, the few times i did get out there i will never forget, the thing that pains me the most, is that most if not all of the property owners around the lake hardly ever if never fish the lake (atleast from what ive seen). If a person even slows down by that lake and are spotted it can mean trouble. i guess it just sucks when that great of a fisherie is off limits because of “nazi” property owners
July 27, 2012 at 11:01 pm #1087884I my self have talked to the police about it multiple times, the city owns that right away, so no you can not access that lake unless u land a plane on there or run a boat with a mud motor up the creek. The muddshark landed a plane on there. That whole community around that lake is a god damn cult, and they don’t want any one on there
February 1, 2012 at 4:09 pm #1034249for 10 bucks navionics is worth it, at least i think, i bought it when i came back to bemidji for ice season. No doubt it has helped me find more spots and fish. Even shows vegetation and accesses, not as accurate as a GPS unit, but still gets you pretty close.
January 16, 2012 at 6:51 pm #1028531thanks joel, and thats the plan is to keep on jumping around until things take a turn. It was pretty neat seeing all the little lakes around and wondering if that could be the one!
December 22, 2011 at 3:43 pm #1020373talked to the police about it, and there is no right of way because the city of afton owns the road not the state. and apparently it is catch and release, i did not know that myself. The only way to get on is either knowing some one or walking up the creek to get on.
December 21, 2011 at 1:49 pm #1019875I fished it twice in a boat with a friend who knew someone, we pounded large mouth all day. How can they own part of the road? doesnt the state own 60ft both sides of the center line, and i know for a fact that the lake comes with in like 25, I was thinking on getting dropped off and walking out, but i know the cops would end up coming, and i dont really want any trouble. just want to fish.
real small
December 12, 2011 at 5:14 pm #1017017not on the croix, but smaller lakes around shouldn’t be affected too much by this warm front
December 7, 2011 at 3:20 am #1015285any small lakes got ice? Yeah red lake is going thats for sure, even heard some one drove on with a 1/2 ton, also heard a group broke off on a ice sheet. I would be up there myself but thats a decent hall for me, plus finals are going on, so not so much time to be on the ice.

thats why I like fishing during the week everyone is working
I agree, no tuna boats or “scientific fisherman”
May 1, 2011 at 7:32 pm #9623284 eyes, 1 keep-able. a few silvers and sheep head also. a ok day for the weather, honestly expected better. jig and a minnow for us. will probably pick up once the water temp rises.
April 1, 2011 at 2:03 pm #952986I personally use st. croix rods and love em. I have not tried the new eyecon though, but just from what ive heard about it sounds like a great rod. I will be picking one up this summer for sure
March 20, 2011 at 10:50 pm #949033pitched basicly every color ring worm i have (which is damn near ever color). didnt have luck but my dad pulled a few in on purple with chartruse tail. Somebody near us was pitching too, looked like deans boat, that person pulled in a few also, but other than that didnt see anybody on em.

Yo rapalafisherman, i assume that you boys made it home or at least to afton, did you ever figure out what was wrong with the truck? my guess was the alternator, or was it the batterie? i was the guy following u home
Ya we barely made it home, we just installed a new alternator and it seems to have fixed it, it idles and and starts fine. thanks by the way for the jump. it was definatley a cold ride home with the window open.
January 26, 2011 at 7:44 pm #930686Due to finals being the the weeke after I will not beable to fish the croix on opener, but good luck to all who do. This will be the first time in 8 years that I will not be out there. But I am excited for the high water this year. This year on the ice has been excellent for eyes on the croix so hopefully that will carry over to the boat atleast for me
January 18, 2011 at 2:15 pm #927359haha you eating sheephead, hell i’d never sink that low , by the way i told bill about it, and he got a kick out of it.
January 15, 2011 at 3:49 pm #926570Thanks for the info, definately going out on a nice day like today.
January 15, 2011 at 1:30 am #926482well some days we had vex and some days we didnt, so a few times we were fishing in 12 and others in 30ish, and somewhere in between, tried out by the point by “cameron” and a few times out by i think diamond point in front of tamarack hall at bsu. been using a buckshot glow tipped with big fatheads. Ive heard suckers have been the ticket, but coming from the st. croix, its hard to believe walleyes bite better on suckers than fatheads or shinners. Tomorrow i think we might try for perch depending on the weather due to our transportation of being a car or a 2wd s10
January 14, 2011 at 7:49 pm #926379And I was begining to think there weren’t any fish in bemidji, been out 4 times this year and haven’t caught a fish yet, although this is my first year up here, I was expecting to have some luck. Going out tonight for some eyes after class. Good report though, glad to hear some one is catching em. Thanks for the report matt
March 9, 2010 at 12:22 am #850842I was jigging em nice and slow and pitchin into shore. I use em on the croix all the time but when it comes to pool 4 they don’t get the job done for me. I’ve used about every color there is too.
March 8, 2010 at 8:46 pm #850777Ya Saturday you out fished me. Your lucky Sunday I didn’t wake up I woulda pounded em. Every thing caught on meat. Damn ringworms don’t work. At least not for me
July 22, 2009 at 7:46 am #792197Well can’t complain about the weather it was nice and calm. The catch tonight included a nice turtle in 18 feet of water. We jumped around in the afton no wake zone. No luck for any flats. We used big sucker minnows and cut the heads off and cut some slits in them. Not giveing up yet though. I’ll most likely be out again 7/22. I’ve never gotten lost on the river until today. On our way in at 2 a.m. The fog was so thick almost couldn’t find the markers. Luckly one of my buddies shinned his head lights to mark our destination. Still can’t lie though fishin at night is nice on the river. Hope others had better luck than we did.
