Group 31 AGM deep cycle, as far as brand, that choice is yours. The “starting battery” is actually used more for running everything else than starting so have a battery that will handle that. As mentioned above, make sure it has enough MCA if your motor has a minimum requirement.

Its no rumor. I have it on good authority that it is a camp regular. He got caught at mcquades after some people saw him driving through father Hennepin with their tub in the back of his pickup. He was stealing from boats at mcquades also. He and his girlfriend are in the milaca jail. There was more stuff recovered at his house…..alot of stuff
June 8, 2017 at 11:49 pm #1698290You have to be off the lake at 2200, it’s the law. My nephew and a buddy caught 9 this evening and missed many more. 28 feet on slip bobbers. The deep gravel should be turning on about now. I’d say spinners and crawlers or leeches should do the trick during the day. There is alot of deep gravel on the south end. Good luck and just remember, it’s mille lacs so if you see someone catch a fish, move right in on them, I think that is also a law on mille lacs
May 18, 2017 at 3:37 pm #1694867Great input thanks everybody!
I think I will stick to a transom saver on the new boat, like you said Dutchboy..piece of mind.
NOW!… How about a model that doesn’t scratch the hell out of your lower unit..
The one I put on my current boat, has scratched the hell out of my 75 hp outboard. What a BUMMER!
the “new” transom savers are the same as the “old” transom savers, they wear the paint off of the lower unit and transfer all the shock from the trailer to the lower unit. A my-wedge or something similar is all that is needed.
May 18, 2017 at 11:49 am #1694794U just dont do it jethro its that easy…but were gunna have to while mappin otherwise we will need to bring a sober driver
after reading your post, I think you need a sober writer
May 16, 2017 at 9:28 am #1694316If you hit something hard enough with either prop that takes the lower unit out, you have problems. Stainless steel is the way to go for alot of reasons, first and foremost is, performance. Ask yourself this, what do you do more, hit things with your prop or run under power from spot to spot. With a 4 blade, just remember that you will not have the “bite” going in reverse that a 3 blade prop has.
May 16, 2017 at 9:11 am #1694313That’s good advice about staying home if the wind is over 11mph, oh, wait a minute, the wind is always over 11mph here. It is a big lake with more spots to fish than your GPS has waypoints. I would be willing to bet a months pay that it will not be uncommon to see multiple boats fishing the more popular spots where you will need to take a number to fish it, just like the muskie fishing was 5 or so years ago. Stop in at lundeen’s bait and he will let you know what is working when you are here. Good luck and don’t be afraid to keep a few of the smaller ones, they taste just as good as the walleyes do.
May 3, 2017 at 10:15 am #1692024I have had a good history with a dodge dealer in st cloud mn
Big_G may be able to help you out, I think he knows a car salesman or two. Get a hold of him and see if he can help you outMay 3, 2017 at 10:02 am #1692019nope, lifetime license is for any trailer
the state of Minnesota watches that close. Trailers are licensed by gross weight, and licensing a boat trailer with a lifetime license when it is over the weight will get you a ticket if caught. My 4500lb shorelander has to be renewed every year. Unless the laws have changed in Minnesota, where did you get the information that “ANY” trailer qualifies for a lifetime license???
April 28, 2017 at 9:35 am #1691169If all you are doing is starting the motor, a cranking battery will be fine. If you are also powering livewell, baitwell, electronics, stereo, running lights for extended periods of time, a deep cycle battery will serve you better. A deep cycle will start your motor for years and run everything attached to it, a cranking battery will start your motor for years but will not run everything else as long as a deep cycle will. In a weekend of fishing, how long are you actually turning the key and cranking the motor, if the motor starts like it should, most likely less than minute or two at most.
April 17, 2017 at 9:19 am #1688890group 31 deep cycle AGM if it fits. my gp 31 agm has over 1100 MCA to start my optimax. direct wire all sonar/gps units to the battery with fuses. running them into a fuse box is easier for the install, but this creates more resistance when starting and can/will draw down the sonar/gps and it will shut off and you will have to reboot it every time you start the main motor. this mostly happens after a battery is a few years old and is starting to loose power.
March 8, 2017 at 7:18 am #1679626Mille lacs is still locked up tight, but the shingles on my house are a different story. The insurance lady is getting a call this morning. The neighbors left the cover on their boat lift, it almost hit their house after traveling almost 100 feet.
March 5, 2017 at 10:47 pm #1679069If you can fit 3 batteries in the boat, go with the 101lb thrust. Bigger is always better when it comes to trolling motors
February 24, 2017 at 7:40 am #1676460Back in the early 2000’s when I was going to Canada lake trout fishing, I built a 42″ rod out of a st Croix blank. 10lb mono was sufficient with fish up to 20lbs were caught. I broke out that rod about a month ago using it walleye fishing. I haven’t had a fish come off after the hook set. I can’t say that about my shorter rods. Tubes, airplane jigs, rocker minnows all work. We used jigs up to 1 1/2oz
February 23, 2017 at 5:15 pm #1676363Grouse,
could you explain “win ugly”. Having dedicated wires directly to the battery with a fuse is neat and clean. All the wire runs are there, from the dash to the starting battery. No need to buy extra fuse blocks and the added installation of it. Just another connection in the circuit that could have a problem.February 22, 2017 at 10:26 am #1676017All sonar/gps units, not just hummingbirds should be hard wired directly to the battery. Probably the biggest mistake people make when rigging a boat is wiring sonar/gps units through a fuse block. You will have voltage issues down the road, especially after the battery gets older
February 19, 2017 at 1:34 am #1675140I was in that same spot in 1981, 6 months after my 18th birthday. I opted for the Navy, the Marines need somebody to bring them to the fight. The Marines is a good choice. A good buddies kid is pushing boots right now, maybe your son will meet him, up close and personal. Happy birthday, take the oath and don’t look back. Going into the military is a very good life choice, being a veteran helped get me into the career that I am getting ready to retire from.
February 19, 2017 at 12:35 am #1675139I bought a new 2003 2025 prov in 2005 that was discounted $12,500 less that what new 2005’s were going for. Paid it off in 3 years. Still have it today. The carpeting is a little wore in spots, there is some scratches here and there, other than that, she’s cherry.
February 15, 2017 at 9:50 pm #1674399When I was a kid growing up and all the way through high school I was up there almost every weekend. The drinking age was 18 at that time, tom’s bar, pheasant inn, pour house. The lake is shallow as I remember, 6 – 8 feet mostly with a 10′ hole out from the island. Watch out around the narrows as that is open water. They used to host the world championship water skipping contest there. My uncles cabin was on Cumberland point road and when we did ice fish, we would be out in the middle of the lake out from Cumberland point. We would fish for sunfish and northern. That was over 35 years ago so things may have changed
February 14, 2017 at 6:03 pm #1674093I think KJ’s does, access it off of twilight rd just past hwy 27. There is a fish house (office) on the ice where you pay.
February 10, 2017 at 12:31 pm #1673004I like the growl of my 2002 225 opti, gas mileage is very good, oil consumption is about a gallon of oil to a 50 gallon tank of gas. I haven’t had any issues this motor and I have owned it since new. 4 stroke outboards have come along way since they have been introduced so the choice is yours. If I had to replace my current motor, it will be with a 250 proxs optimax
February 8, 2017 at 3:06 pm #1672416Check Siewik Lumber in mpls. They may have what you are looking for.
February 8, 2017 at 2:31 pm #1672397I have ice rescue trained at Moore lake in Fridley and at Minnetonka. We pretty much went all the way to the open water and stepped onto the “new” ice before it gave way. Respect the thin ice signs and you should good.
February 8, 2017 at 10:34 am #1672328-6deg this morning here on mille lacs. A far cry from tapping tree weather. March is just over the next hill and will be here in no time. At my age, time goes by too fast anyway, no reason to rush it

With a cost of $14-$19 per tank I don’t think I will go there. I have a $12 refill valve from MR Heater and I use my used Colman 1#ers. Works great!Illegal to transport those 1 lbers refilled…
it’s illegal to drive over the speed limit also, I’ll bet you do it all the time. I have been refilling 1lb bottles for a very long time without ANY issues. Every now and then you get a leaked, must screw a torch head on it until it warms up and it is good to go. Most of the 30 or so bottles I have, I have picked up on the ice. Damn litter bugs. Don’t waist your money on that expensive refillable one,, must buy the fitting and refill regular 1 pounders
January 31, 2017 at 8:39 am #1670081My wife insists on parking under some big red pines at work. I use bug and tar remover, it doesn’t do too good. Once it gets baked on, it is hard as super glue.
