One thing I always did in addition to what others have already said, is leave something in the boat that if all else fails they want to create their nest with. Something they can chew on that isn’t part of your boat. I always used small scraps of pine and a roll of toilet paper or paper towels.

In the spring sometimes I found that they had built a nest on the floor with the paper towels, ate the poison and died in the paper towel nest.

I would agree. Triton. They do incredibly well in waves.

How exactly did we get in the situation where co-management was required? I’d be interested to know the history of what landed us here.

There is obviously zero science behind any of it anymore.

    How did we get here?

The State and the tribes had agreed to a reasonable allotment for the tribes but PERM sued in Federal court. Ultimately the case went to the US Supreme Court and they ruled the 1837 treaty was in effect and the bands had exclusive fishing rights to the lake. The bands have total control and whatever fishing we are allowed to do is due to their choice. We may not like it. But there is really nothing the DNR can do.

In 1990 the US Supreme Court ruled in favor of the tribes and enforced the 1837 treaty. This gives exclusive hunting and fishing rights to the tribes. They allow us a portion of the harvest. But they are not required to.

It puts the DNR in an awful position as they really don’t have any authority. The only thing the DNR can do is try to keep our catch within what the tribes have allowed.

We certainly don’t like it. But there isn’t much we can do about it.

This is the view a moment ago. With the snow cover, I think it will take a long time to melt. My guess is 5/10.

It is going to get pretty warm next week and that could change a lot. But I fear getting the dock and boat lift in prior to the opener is very much in doubt for me this year.

Congratulations! I’m very happy for you.

On the other hand, I am sure going to miss the best fishing show on TV.

RED WING, Minn. – A deputy shot and wounded a man in a Red Wing park Tuesday afternoon following a car crash.

The Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office says a deputy found a vehicle damaged from a crash in Bay Point Park just after 1 p.m. He saw a man walking away from the crash, and called Red Wing police for assistance.

Before officers arrived, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension says “a struggle ensued and the deputy shot the man.”
Diners at Kelly’s Tap Bar & Grill watched the incident unfold from the booths near the window that overlook the park. Mitchell Anderson is the manager.

“Someone yelled, ‘There’s a fight!’ So I ran over, and at that time they were on the ground rolling around,” Anderson said. “The cop got up off the ground. We saw him draw his weapon as the guy was continuously like walking towards him. And then the guy just dropped down … I don’t know if a Taser would’ve even done anything, the guy was very large.”

The man is being treated at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester and the BCA says he is expected to survive.

The deputy suffered minor injuries in the encounter and was treated and released from an area hospital.

The BCA, which is leading the investigation, says there is no body camera or dash cam footage of the encounter.

Where does it say the officer was cunning enough to turn off anything. It simply says there was no body or dash camera footage of the incident.

Maybe go to the men’s room and extract your head from your nether regions.

Good point. It did not occur to me that Goodhue county would not have body and dash cameras in November 2022.

Do you know that is the case, or speculation? There is a chance the smaller town doesn’t have a body cam. If he did shut it off that would be idiotic in broad daylight in town. You know there will be a camera or someone watching filming.

I coached youth soccer for 11 years. My goal at the beginning of each season was that every player enjoyed it enough that all of them would sign up the next year.

Be positive. I tried every year to find at least one time that a player would do something well, and I would stop practice and ask that player to show the team what they were doing. Those moments had a very powerful impact on less confident players.

Put players in spots where they can have some success. Not everyone can play point.

Finally, be first person to every practice. Informal practice starts the moment you arrive. Shot free throws. It keeps kids interested and there is no standing around. Same thing before games.

Good luck! It can be a lot of fun for you and the players.

I might have good news for you. I had a similar problem and figured out it was a setting I had made on the remote. Had something to do with spotlock and auto pilot. I googled it found the answer and changed the setting and it has worked perfectly.

I can’t remember the setting. But google may be your friend. Good luck

The torque test channel on YouTube has done brightness durability and battery life tests on many rechargeable flashlights. They do good testing without bias.

I have been very happy with belts from YourTack. They are a maker of saddles and other tack. Use excellent leather and it is all full grain.

You can find them on Amazon.

I personally don’t think they are to the Iowa or Wisconsin level yet.

They did bear the badges 2 out of the last 4.

I have a tendency to do that as well! Yes, I am looking for lakes on 47. I have fished some of the lakes on the west side already.

Knife Lake near Mora, just east of hwy 47 is a decent fishing lake.

I also spent a summer doing DNR surveys on a few small lakes near Aitkin, including Sissabagamah Lake which isn’t far of hwy 47. That lake had particularly good bass fishing but was loaded with small, stunted pike. Bear in mind this was about 16 years ago.

When I was very young, my Dad used to take me to Sissabagama every opener. It is the perfect lake for kids. Tons of action with small northers. This was 50 or more years ago. So it appears that nothing has changed.

This is one of those few events that a politician can get viewed positively by all (or most) regardless of their political views and walz skips it. What a moron. Probably one of the few opportunities he can do an event publicly without politics dominating the conversation too.

Exactly. If even Bernie Sanders or Elizabeth Warren came out for opener, you’d better believe people would welcome them with open arms for participating. There might be some healthy jabs back and forth, but at the end of the day, it’s guys out in the boat fishing.

I don’t agree politically with everyone I fish with, but when we are in the boat, none of that BS matters. We are out trying to crush the fish and have a good time.

Sure… remember the time when Mark Dayton tried to fish on Mille Lacs? He was trying to help support area business by highlighting the great fishing on the lake. Unfortunately, he was not able to fish because “sportsmen” were circling his boat.

It’s funny how quickly the political right dismisses and Democrat as someone who has never been outdoors. Dayton is a lifetime hunter and fisherman. While some of you claim he would be welcome the comments by so many here clearly indicate otherwise.

Cody Jinks, Sturgill Simpson, Halestorm, and Cody Johnson were the last 3 artists to scroll across my computer.

I’ll generally listen to just about anything (expect modern pop hip/hop crap). I don’t mind an occasional 90’s version of this stuff mixed in.

Our playlists are pretty similar. Recently Spotify helped me discover Amanda Anne Platt & The Honeycutters. Also an earlier name of the same group The Honeycutters. They are a heavy part of my current playlists.

I had a machine shed built by Sherman lumber in Mora. They did a good job. It was built 15 years ago and has been flawless.

Do you understand what a global economy means?

Our oil and gas comes from the US, Canada, Mexico for the most part. Around 18% comes from the Middle East and others. We could end that today and get 100% ourselves.

Your info is off about where our oil comes from. The US is the #1 producer of oil in the world. In 2021 we produced 18.61 million barrels per day. We are also the number 1 consumer or oil at 20.54 barrels per day. So over 90% is domestic production. If we conserved just a little we could get by on all domestic production.

Top producers and consumers of oil

I think you would be fine with 55. I have an 80 on a 22′ tritoon. It is much heavier (I would guess with 3 people I am 2x your weight) than your boat and the sides of the pontoon make it fight the wind. But the 80 does fine.

I have a place on Mille Lacs and will often snowmobile random routes across the lake. On Sunday afternoons as the wheelhouses pull out it is not at all uncommon to see piles of feces left near where the houses were. This is a new phenomenon in the last 3-4 years and unfortunately I see more and more of it.

Never had a problem with DEF. I think it does freeze at 11F. But your truck will start fine if the DEF is frozen. The DEF tank has a heating element in it and it will melt quickly when the truck is running.

Do not use any sort of additive in the DEF tank. Also leave some room in the tank. If completely full the expansion from freezing can break the tank.

For LOW I would add some power service or howes additive to reduce the risk of the fuel gelling. Follow the directions on the label.

Since when is being patriotic dumb?

Being patriotic is not dumb. But being patriotic is a lot more than flying a flag. But if you do choose to fly the flag to show your patriotism, it takes work. It needs to come down in the dark. It should not be resting on the bed or sides of your truck if stopped. If damaged it needs to be properly disposed of.

In my opinion, if you are not willing to do it right, you are trying to appear patriotic but not willing to do the work…

The belt might make less noise. But it will not do much for the durability of the opener. I grew up in this business and never heard of a chain breaking. The belt may last just as long. But the failure point on openers is either the electronics or the internal gears. https://www.liftmaster.com/gear-and-sprocket-kit/p/041A5811

Getting 20 years is great. The belt will not create a problem. It will do fine in cold temps.

. The vehicle door sticker is more about tire size and speed calibration.

The vehicle sticker is actually about optimizing the performance of the vehicle. Tire pressure and the aspect ratio of the tire are all important in determining how the tire will flex over bumps. The mfg has set the springs and shocks with the expectation that it will operate optimally with the specific tires and tire pressure that is on the doorpost sticker.

I love mowing. Always did. 40+ years ago, it was uninterrupted time to think. With noise-canceling headphones, it is time to think or listen to music, podcasts, or books. I mow 3x a week. Twice at home, 30 minutes each time on a rider. Once at the lake, about 1hr 45 minutes on a rider. Twice each summer, I mow a hayfield that takes about 6 hours. For me, it might be more relaxing than fishing.

The other unexpected benefit is that somehow the vibration or movement of the tractors makes any back pain disappear.
