Sweet, thanks for the responses guys. I think I’ll probably head out to Pool 8 tonight. Hopefully the top water bit is still on, otherwise, we’ll try some other stuff. Again…thanks much.

Yeah water levels are really down a lot. I was out on pool 7 yesterday and was cruising along in a place that shouldn’t have been a problem, and smoked a wing dam with my motor…tore up the scag pretty good. Luckily didn’t damage the motor itself. So definitely watch the wing dams closer and watch your depths. If the water would have been much lower, I probably would have sunk the boat and had to swim back.

Well, I heard there was a bass tourny, and did see quite a few bass boats, but I wasn’t sure if that was normal or not. I threw for bass and northern a bit and didn’t have any luck. My wife was able to hook up on one small bass while throwing a Mann’s Baby 1-. Otherwise, we just fished for panfish and caught quite a few crappies. All were pretty small, but I guess they were smaller last year. Only a few decent sized ones. Other than that, it was pretty slow for everything. Talked to the baitshop guys and they said Northern’s are chasing bait fish in the bays of about 5′ in depth. So cranks and spinners are working well, but I think that the cold front that came through might have had cause the slow fishing. So good luck next weekend.

Hey Thanks, I really appreciate the tips. From looking at aerial photos I have some ideas as to where I want to fish. I’ll definitely be throwing for some Large Mouth bass. I’ll be staying on 7 1/4 Ave on the peninsula, so it might be a bit of a hike up to the north side of Prairie Lake, but I might try to make it up there. Hopefully the water temps are a bit warmer since opener and are more in the 60degree range or higher. Thanks again for the update.

I’m heading up to Chetek this coming weekend. Haven’t fished this lake in years, not since I was a kid. Just wondering if anyone is willing to give me any tips on where I should be looking for small mouth bass and how they’re biting right now. Also how is the pan fish bite? I’m sure we’ll be fishing for a bit of everything. Any and all tips are welcome! Thanks

Even though I’m not sure how football got onto a bass fishing forum, I’m a Viking fan and I don’t even want Brett Favre. I’m sick of hearing about all his drama over the last couple years with GB and NY. It will just me more drama and he’ll bring it to MN. Screw him. There I’ve said my peace.

I didn’t mind being out fished by my wife. There’s some sort of pride or enjoyment in taking someone out who doesn’t fish much and they catch a personal best. She usually likes to just go out in the boat and get some sun but I think after yesterday, she’ll have a fishing pole in hand a bit more often!

Slop Bass, I’ve been looking for a topo map of Lake Onalaska and I saw on a post from a couple years ago that you have a topo map of Lake Onalaska and you were willing to email it to someone else. Would you be willing to email it to me? Thanks

Nice work. Looks like you guys have been doing pretty well so far this year. I’ve never really thought bass moved much with water/weather this cold. At least I’ve never had much luck…guess I’ll have to get out and try something other than crank baits. Anyways…keep it up…I enjoy the pics, gives me motivation to get out get some of my own!
