jake. We killed 18 canadas and a speck yesterday. 1st one i ever seen killed here in 30yrs of goose hunting. He was even leading the pack and those orange feet and bright bill stuck out like a sore thuumb. needless to say he was down on the first shot.

how about this? Start season on 1st sat. of oct. Close 2nd sat. then reopen on the 3rd sat.

Usualy “not always” but usualy the 2nd weekend of duck season is slow. local birds have been shot up real bad!! New birds usually are not here yet. The guys that like the early season start get it and the guys that like the late season get one more week

    It’s a win win.

Wow i copy & pasted this from a discussion we had on this same site in 12/03/06

Mn should just close one week like wisc. does! Wich is traditionaly the worst duck hunting week of the year anyway! then if you have a mild fall bang you got the xtra week. If the water freezes up go goose huntin or deer huntin or fishen ect……..

no eab! My area has far less does then in the past. We have seen a major decline in dos over the past 8-10 yers!! Most the corn was out where i was huntin and i saw 3 does from stand in 5 days of hunting. But i did see About 8 bucks all to small to shoot. Very similar numbers for the rest of my hunting party as well. 5 of us shot 3 deer. one good 10 point. ! small 10 point And 1 doe. we all could have been done opening day if we wanted to shoot 2 1/2 yr old bucks.

I would prefer antler restrictions over EAB! Some areas do not have alot of does. And i do hunt southeast mn.

    at a boy jake!
I went diver hunting tuesday & wed. scouted for a mallard hunt thurs, and went off the betatin path and went mucking in some deep woods and marsh in wisconsin. no mallards to speak of. The diver hunts were a slam dunk though. got cans red heads bills buffs and even a couple mallards and a wigeon. Mornings started slow but got real fast pased later in day. especialy wedsday. oh and got a goose to boot and would have had more if i would have put out my goose decoys sooner!!!

Time to shoot some cans and bills. Later

Well Tim I feel your pain! Marly my 2 year old lab tore his right acl on his first 12 retrieves on snows in south dakota, 2 hours into the trip. He then tore his left acl in aug. He had surgery on the 28th of aug. and missed duck openr and our trip to north dakota.
Any way he recoverd from the first surgery in april realy well. He is recovering from the aug. surgery pretty good and I plan on hunting him on some divers next weekend. If the vet says I can. He has afollow up appointment fri. The tplo is the way to go.
Had him done at shamrock in Rosemont. about 2500 each side. (ouch). Surgical care was great. My daughter Brittney works there. call me if you want more info. 507 421 6321. They came highly recomended.

I have had both guns and the barreta wins for me. I did have a chance to shoot a new sbe side by side with my barreta and the barreta had vey less felt recoil. And gas operated autos do recoil less!

I shoot a Matage (870 wing master) I have owned it since I was about 14 and it has never seen a gunsmith! It has shot ducks geese roosters grouse and deer ect…

I can throw it in the mud, run over it with the truck, pick it up and shoot it LOL.

I also shoot an 1187. I have owned this gun sice i was about 18. It has seen the gun smith twice with 2 cheap repairs and was my go to gun this year. I was going to get a 31/2″ but with the success of 3″ fast steele loads(1450 t0 1550 fps) I decided to save my pennys for other hunting goodies.

    Hey jake
We hunted nort kind of out far and the geese did a no show on us They had flown over that field very hard for about a week. We set up turkey day and notta. What we did see came from the north and acted as if we were not there.
Went west sat. afternoon and had birds work good we managed 4 birds. We passed alot of pairs and singles triing to get the bigger groups in. Due to heavy winds we had alot of birds stall out and look at us at about 60 to 80 yards. Sat. went with large group back north on the line and shot 33 : Igot alot of friends that have been out alot and doing realy well for the last ten days.
I think it’s like this. If the birds you see hunting are fresh they decoy… and the 0nes that have been here awhile are alot tuffer and fly by…or ya get a single or pair off the back of the string to do a suicide run into your spread instead of the whole flock.
