I am on my 3rd new Ranger since 2000. I have loved everyone of them but NONE like my 2008 Ranger 620vs. It simply is the BEST freshwater boat available today. I used to watch the winds when venturing out on MilleLacs or Lake of the Woods. Now, I don’t give it a second thought. This thing kills big waves and keeps you dry. As a fishing platform it’s unsurpassed. Make sure you get a casting deck extension for the back…..then use it if there are only 2 guys fishing. I have fished 4 guys comfortably FOR MUSKIES…big bits etc. Loads of room.

Those windshields were not available in 03. I have a 2008 Ranger 620 and I ordered the upright windshields. (They call them Vertical Pro I think). Anyway, I know they were a new feature that was introduced around 2007 or so.
The upright ones work great but I am still thinking seriously about going to a full windshield.

    Hi….
I ALWAYS have some degree of success out there on St Croix using a bottom bouncer and a Rapala “FlatRap” or floating rap. I like the gold and black color. I do not catch big numbers but in past 2 weeks I have a 26 and a 27 incher. Good luck.

There is a special deal on now where you can buy the antenna for $99. That is one sweeeeet deal. It is usually 3 times that much. Check the Lowrance web site. I just ordered mine 2 days ago.

I do not have a report #,I went over this with someone on navionics service phone line, and at the Minnesota Sportsmans show in St.Paul,MN just two months ago. There is a large portion of Lake Vermillion,in Cook MN,that is uncharted on your 2009 premium chip.It is also uncharted On your 2010 premium chip. The entire area between Wakem up bay, and Niles Point is shaded in green with no plot lines. This entire area is charted on the lakemaster chip.

    Hey …..
This sounds EXACTLY ike the problem I had, on exactly the same body of water….Lake Vermilion. I had bought an LCX38cHD and a Navionics chip. Most of Lake Vermilion would not come up on the GPS screen. Found out it was the GPS unit’s firmware that needed updating. Once I did this on-line (and it was simple even for a dummy like me) it worked perfectly !
Make sure your GPS has the absolute latest firmware. (Check it out on Lowrance’s site).

It has been around forever. One very well known Canadian lodge owner actually sent out an e-mail this year saying it was caught by a guest his lodge last year !! Unbelievable.

This fish was caught (as I remember the story) in the Netherlands, where the pike get gargantuan.

I caught a pretty large 45″ Pike (see photo) on the extreme northwest side of Lake of the Woods 4 years back, and as you will see it does not even come close to the other photo. Yet several lodge owners have told me that mine was one of the largest Pike caught up there in a while. I have fished LOW for over 15 years and caught some large fish, but nothing has even come close to the Netherlands shot. It is not from North America….no way.

This product looks interesting but I am a skeptic. I have a 101# Minkota Terrova on my 2008 Ranger 620. When I got it, the Terrova’s autopilot would not be able to overcome the momentum of this heavy boat to steer a steady course like it should in winds and/or waves. The motor always fought hard to overcome the boats momentum, thus causing constant over corrections. The motor simply could not keep up. And this is the top thrust motor available !! I am concerned the i-pilot will have the same issues.

I run an LCX38cHD at the console and a 520 built in to the bow on my 2008 Ranger 620. The LCX38 decided it would work every other day ! No kidding. One day it would work, next day no, the very next day it would be working again. It was making me nutso. The 520 never has given me a lick of trouble. The Lowrance units are pretty easy to use IF you have all the firmware up to date. I ordered my 38 with my new boat. When delivered, I could not get a split screen (Graph and GPS). I had to buy a blank chip, then download firmware, then install it. Worked ok after that.
Lowrance gets a C+ so far from this fisherman.

    OK….a follow up.

Since Lowrance was taking months (3+) to get me back a new replacement unit, they have upgraded me for FREE to the HDS8 Insight unit. That’s right….I have to say this is VERY good. Now I just pray that this one works OK, bcause it looks pretty sweet.

I have had my 38cHD in at Lowrance service now for 3 months. In December they said January. In January they said February. In February they just told me March. STOP, I said. “Let me talk to Linda Colt”. “She’s gone”, said the voice. I was then placed on hold for over 15 minutes….but when I mumbled to myself “What is going on ?” a voice came back and said “we’ll be right there”. They put me on hold….but kept listening to what I was saying. Be careful boys !!! Bottom line is, they say they are upgrading me to the new 8″ HD unit.
