The predominant forage in Candlewood lake is alewives and the fishery is fantastic because of it. We have world class smallmouth, yellow perch, and crappie. It takes a 4 lb. average of smallies to win local tournaments. The trout fishery is not nearly what it used to be due to warmer summers and the walleye are in the lake but at a low density. When you catch one it is big though. Candlewood lake holds the state record for walleye (14lbs. 8 oz.) and I believe it will be broken again.
