Yep another vote for Otter rod box, the pictures on the websites don’t do them justice.

Brasso would work, however the smell it would leave would be less than desireable.
Peroxide a rag and elbow grease, would be your best bet.
Maybe store a couple folded paper towles to absorb some of the moisture in your boxes might help also.

At 1st I was going to say LX-3 TC for you, but with fishing those Lakers a dual cone would be a big plus for you. A LX-3 TC or an LX-5 will blow you away compared to your FL-18. You can move the zoom on both the LX-3 TC and the LX-5 anywhere in the water column. The display is much more chrisp and clear, target seperation is also much better and ofcourse the interfearance rejection system is way better.
Especially on the LX-5, however if you don’t want to spend that much the LX-3 TC will do a great job for you also.
The LX-3 TC compared to the LX-3 is a crisper brighter display that also has more power, better interfearance rejection and better target seperation compared to a regular LX-3.
I have the new LX-3 TC and I love it, it’s like having last years model LX-5 without the dual cone transducer, they even have the red soft case like the LX-5 now.
    Hope this helps.

I have an Explorer and I plan on driving out this weekend in the Aitkin area. Its hard to say how thick the ice is for sure, but I think it will we close. I checked the ice last week and I will be checking before I attempt it tomorrow.

I was out on Big Sandy and Waukanobo this weekend, they both had about 12 inches, seen a few cars & trucks out there.

I was out during the snow storm Sunday and a few guys were even drivin on the ice then.

Save your money this season and put some back through out the summer and get Marcums color camera, that camera is amazing.
Cabelas camera is way better than most units with in $200 of it’s price range forsure.

    Yes I also own a VX-1 and a LX-3 TC
It’s more compareable to the FL-20 an FL-8 would be a down grade compared to the VX-1, even the 600 watts model.
The VX-1 has better target seperation then either of those Vexilars, it has more power and a better IR system.

I have had the Mickey Mouse boots also they work very well.

Pull the 2nd dummy cord off the transducer, this causes it to pull to the left or right. That is the reason you have to turn your gain up so high to see your jig, cause the transducer is not centered.
Humminbird had to put that 2nd cord onto the transducer, so that they did not infringe on Vexilar’s Patent. If you remove the 2nd cord that is just cliped on, it will level out your transducer and fix your problem.
There is also a possibility that there is an issue with the transducer, all flasher companies have this issue sometimes. Sometimes they grind the ceramics in the transducer down too much and it affects how much you need to turn up your gain. I actually had this problem on a brand new Marcum I purchased a couple months ago, I exchanged it for a diffrent unit and that fixed the problem.
More than likely you just need to take that dummy cord off the transducer, so that it can level itself out.
Since it’s not centered you have to turn your gain way up to see you jig, because it’s on the outside edge of the transducer cone.

Sorry to hear that you weren’t happy with your experience.

I have worked with a handful of vendors at sports shows over the past few years. One of the things that struck me is the SIGNIFICANT fees those vendors have to pay just to have a booth. Many, and I mean many, of the vendors you saw today will lose $$ (or perhaps barely break even) just for the opportunity to have their products on display. If they discounted items 20%….30%….40%….they wouldn’t recoup enough of their own significant expenses to even bother with the hassle….and then the show and the opportunities it DOES present disappear.

I look at sports shows as an opportunity to see all of the newest and best prodcuts under one roof. To turn all the knobs, sort through all the jig colors, meet the pro staff, ask questions of the designers and engineers behind the products. I go to sports shows to learn something new in a setting that is dedicated to my passion. If I’m looking to save $$, the sports shows are rarely the place to do so (unless I’m willing to wait for the last few hours, when vendors are looking to unload product rather than loading it back into their vehicles).

I couldn’t of said it better, I do the booth for a Archery manufacture for all the Deer & Turkey Classic’s (IL,MN,WI, OH & MI) and the fees for those booths are astronomical, most of the guys working the booths are probably prostaffers and get a very small percentage of what is sold and probably won’t even cover their travel costs. It’s all about seeing what is on the market and being able to network with new people, truly a great experience.

I have buddies who have the Vexilar suit, it’s nice but not waterproof. I personally went with the Artic Armour suit this season, because it’s warm, waterproof and it will float you if you fall through. I wear the jacket every day and it’s great.

Today I was out checking farm ponds with a spud bar and the windchill was 5 Deg. I had my Artic Armour & Lacrosse boots on with just a T-shirt and Jeans on underneath and after punching 8 holes, I was ready to take the jacket off I was so warm. The wind of 25 mph didn’t phase me a bit. The suit may be too warm for me sometimes.
