Slightly biased but the Croix rods are pretty tough to top in my opinion.
Recently tried an Ion Alpha Plus. While I enjoy my 40v, the ion puts it to shame.
No problem hope it helps. I always had issues on the ice hole hopping seems like the transducer would get disoriented if moved on an odd plane. And yeah I agree on the lack of info only reason I found it was just messing with all the setting. As such: you could also wait until it orients itself to normal and at that point turn AHRS off but it won’t allow you to use a calibrated compass with that combination. Also. One last thing: I found that manually setting the pitch while somewhere you know is flat out like 120-150 feet worked super well for me so I could line up the far right side of the screen and make it level.
You need to change the pitch setting off of auto. I can’t quite remember which setting it’s under off the main menu but if you find where to toggle AHRS on or off you’re close.
Running a 21 foot aluminum Lund and I went with the 135 amp hour dakotas for it. I was kicking around the ionics with the monitoring built right into them. I don’t think I’d be able to kill them in a day but stranger things have happened.
Lots of info and fairly accurate is what I’m looking for even tho I probably won’t have much idea what I’m looking at right away so thank you for the information
Yeah just wondering if it would be beneficial for the set up to see how the batteries are charging and how much juice I go thru in a day. It’s just so difficult to find real world info on this stuff that’s not from a company website.
Blackfish Stormskin unless it’s really cold then Striker Climate
I’ve had no problem fishing the 42 or 45 in my otter flip over.
I do this with lakers. Have found that making a sharp turn or running my second rigger with a diff style of bait about 10-15 feet behind and 5-10 feet above gives the followers a second option that ends up essentially right above their heads.
The Summit Pole has met all of my needs over the last season and a half
For me it’s the Elliotts 42 or 45 inch evolution series or the St Croix Eye Raiser
Tough to beat a whole smoked tenderloin with a whiskey and mushroom cream sauce in my opinion.
The blackfish stormskin pullovers are about the nicest things I’ve ever found. Worn them out on the ice in sub zero temps with just a base layer underneath with no problems.
I usually just longline for browns and coho in spring/fall when they’re up a little shallower so can’t say with much confidence. There’s a lot of water in the summer when they scatter deep. Although I did catch a coho on a meat rig with a dipsy mag in 100 FOW last summer but that is the only time I’ve ever had one on.
Mag dipseys are all I use on superior on 50 pound braid. 50 pound mono from dipsey to swivel to attach flasher or spoon or whatever. No snubber needed if using mono but I have used snubbers when running fluoro.
It’s a pretty kick ass transducer although the mounting options are a little strange in my opinion. The range on it is a considerable upgrade.
Okuma copper/leadcore rods are fantastic at a fraction of the price point for this.
It doesn’t get any better than Catch and Cook for me. It’s very versatile and doesn’t need a speck of extra seasoning to make it good.
Is the Elliott 42 inch noodle out of the question? The rod is absolutely legit. Probably the nicest small jig ice rod I have ever used. And I’ve tried more of them than I’d care to admit
Bait feeder if you wanna use it in an iFish Pro and yes you are correct let it load up after clicking bait feeder off before setting hook
Two brothers makes a fantastic three rod case with strap that will hold I believe up to a 48 inch rod.
I have up to 4 colors of 27 pound on Okuma Coldwater 303s and have put up to 7 colors on a coldwater 453. That’s with 300 yards of 30 pound braid and some backing underneath the lead on each reel. Depending on backing I’ve more heard that a 500 series convector is better for a full core but that’s with a large amount of braid behind it too. Not sure how much diff 18 to 27 pound will be.
I have the livescope ice bundle with an upgraded lithium battery on a pole mount that slides into a track system on the boat. I love it. Have just started getting the hang of it for crappies but basically I drive around scanning side to side and once I find fish/structure I get downwind of it, then drive straight upwind toward the structure and spot lock with the fish between the trolling motor and me in the back of the boat. Allows me to pitch slightly forward for them while fishing with one hand and moving the pole mount with my other hand.
Scatter rap minnows in hot steel, gold fluorescent orange, purpledescent, clown, and fire tiger have worked the best for us over the last two years. Plus the browns love them as well.
