Eggs hitch hiking on birds legs, mebbe? Be careful with this line of thinking, the “pros” will claim someone probably stocked the pond. Right, Jack?
As for that monkey business about the size, if you just take the big ones or bother them while they are guarding the nest, the wimps will prevail, stunting is certain and
extensive research shows the average size goes down. But thanks anyway, lady, for working with the kid.

If the person is sitting in a lawn chair and playing with the smart phone it is probably a relative of some DNR honcho. So no need to confront this person–just there for the easy money and probably no clue what’s going on.

As the Aqua satellite view clears on my tablet, these clouds show up closer to Door Co.WI but still radiating from Michigan. They are actually ARCs rather than full circles. Clear cut case of Go Figure?

Heard that U of M and others will be looking into the sources for that eutraphied dead zone in the Gulf they say gets to be the size of Virginia.
We recently calculated a SUPERTANKER sized load of brown water was going under the Mankato Vet’s Memorial Bridge about every 55 SECONDS! And water depth was been up there at least a couple months before the frost came out of the fields.
Any ideas on how to harvest this water before it soaks
through the pesticides and fertilizer into the field drain tiles and creeks? (We could use those wasted expensive chemicals to feed the planet). And water’s going on the commodities market alongside corn, beans, hogbellies and aluminum beer cans in the next couple of years, they say.

    Congrats on the lunker!
Might want to consider changing your presentation about Mr. Thoreau, though.
What he actually said was that many folks go fishing without realizing what they are really after. You can look it up when you check the trademark status on this phrase,
which was registered many years ago by a T-shirt maker. To snarl things up a bit further, he apparently forgot to update his paperwork and the status of that mark has gone to Section 8. According to the website we viewed, that registration “may still be valid in some jurisdictions.”
Bet your 2014 anglers license is gold as gold, though, eh?

From the “They Broke the Mold with This Lady” dept:
Another story bears telling down in Lakeville, where a fifth grade teacher at Orchard Lake Elementary School is retiring soon, after taking her kids for a special fishing day each spring for almost a quarter century.
Friends of Ron Schara and Jason Davis……send these guys an email and ask them to take cameras to recognize the efforts of Janine Steffer, an perky local fish club member who has been passing on her passion for poles, lines and bobbers throughout of her classroom career.
…Or send her your thanks, directly, for helping future generations of avid local anglers bait their own hooks. ([email protected])

For those who haven’t been following closely…
The bike grade up the hill has been promoted as a gradual slope…though probably not the equal of the nearby new Grant trail on the Minnesota side..at max six per cent.
What keeps us gopher taxpayers scratching our noggins is that the early planners of this project brought in expensive out of state archeologists. They said not to run an improved crossing through the lift bridge area because a modern back-cut low-slope HIGHWAY would endanger three important historical sites….a late Stillwater sawmill property, with artifacts, deeded to the city across the river; the Koliner Park Legion beach also on the Wisconsin side, which no one now seems to want to revive even with Stillwater’s other beach shut down due to Amoebae; the old city-run Yellowstone Highway tourist camp, also with artifacts, an important part of our national defense highways system.
Well, the Valley lost one of its great old tourist trains, the Zepher, a marvelous river tugboat, the Cayuga, and recently the mayor has been mumbling about banning fishing off the liftbridge. Maybe all those owners of four thousand dollar bicycles will push the potato-putting biker rascals out and our “historic” town will actually benfit from public decisions for a change. A place that takes two years to paint a gazebo and joins a multi-million dollar transplant of a mattress rag shed can’t be expected to score on every shot, eh? Would we prefer to have the Houlton side turned back to nature, as some are proposing? How about it, St. Joe Township lakeshore owners? Get rid of the trailer court, the old outdoor theater and the redneck strip bar as well?

At some point, the King plant ore docks are slated for removal as part of the bridge crossing boondoggle. Wondering if this would affect the outlet area now…and if there is any further word on the DNR launch proposed in this
project to buy off the angling vote. Am still wondering why
the power folks are shuting off their access to Eastern barge coal now that they installed expensive sulfur removal.

How many IDO followers does it take to drill out the holes in a fish house?
    Actually…
…they never make it that far. They spend all of their time
telling food stories and running outside or driving back to the bait store.

Generally make it a practice at sunset when the big gills come in to switch from crawler slices to small leeches.
If you’re really hard up for leeches start checking the stomach contents.

If you love the woods and flowers…or have other family members aboard… U of M Arboretum not a bad bet. Should be lots of sweet apples ready in area, too…they bred the honeycrisp there.

One of my dogs once chased something into a hollow log up in NW Michigan.
Thinkin it was a rabbit, I sent her in.
It took a local vet most of the afternoon to get a coupla hundred porcupine quills out of her lips, mouth and throat.
Imagine if you were a fox with no vet insurance and did that!
…Not as bad as an old girlfriend, whose granddaughter recently caught the afternoon’s biggest one — a sunfish jig, with rubber worm,in the tip of granny’s nose. To top it off, the nurse at the emergency room thought it was some kinda jewelry!
At least the surgeon had the presence to clip off the barb, instead of digging and suturing, as happened to me about 40 years ago when I tried casting a fly against a strong wind.
LESSON HERE: Always carry a strong sharp nipper tool!

Good thing you don’t live in Illinois. They also take the doors and radios. Broad Daylight. Company parking lot. Been there.
For anyone getting an aftermaket car alarm: Oversized chains and pop machine padlocks on the hood aren’t enough. Give the installer your best friend’s correct name, address or phone number…and don’t automatically trust dealer people.
Third tip: Don’t park a vehicle with for sale sign on most city streets or park a trailer more than 24 hours within a car length of the same spot. If your spot is highly visible from your house that’s no guarantee things will be there in the morning.

There’s a retreat center, (Dun-Rovin?) out in the St. Croix valley that exposes inner city Chicago kids to the great outdoors. Anyone volunteering there?

MN state law governs usage of public or surface waters for use by a certain number of persons and for certain quantities withdrawn. Your home use may fall under the minimum but it might be a good idea to familiarize yourself with specifics and details via an internet search of state water withdrawall laws-MN. …and be careful, there was deadly results recently when pump equipment fell in the water. Either way, hope you can avoid imperial legal-eagle entanglements.

This may not answer your question directly, but my avid fisherman uncle got robbed of his retirement years by cancer caused largely by hisw careless application of fruit herbicides.

It is NOT TIME to spray unless you wear long-sleeved clothing, a good mask, rubber gloves and boots. It is NOT TIME to spray in any significant wind or when the neighbors have their windows open. Shower and wash the clothes immediately after. And READ THE LABEL!

If you think you’re too tough for some simple precautions, visualize yourself wasting away in a hospice ward for a year or two instead of taking your grandkids fishing. My uncle refused nourishment and liquids except for frozen spoonfuls of frozen orange pop after hearing that lung cancer is like drowning…only a whole lot slower. Had been a big jovial postman but weighed less than 100 lbs. at the end.

Uncle Crappie thought he was too tough for common sense.
And smoked a pack a day for many years, doubling his odds.
    Nuff said.

Shamps Meat Market on Hwy 371 at Pine River might be worth the drive. Meat from their own farm. Been there many years.
If you go, be sure to tease some one about the large number of resort riding horses boarded in the vacinity.

What kills more loons? Giant ocean oil spills…or bacteria in the north end of Lake Michigan spread by invasive species?
If you want to learn real the story behind our water problems, log onto a Riverkeeper web site…and be sure to read the book by that name.

Was gonna add some vent holes at the top of my two-man clam but decided the battery acid orifices take care of moisture and co/co2 build-up without an expensive re-make. Sort of the old comfortable boots syndrome.

Cell phone people want all kinds of unnecessary personal info to sell you a PREPAID PHONE. Told them were they could chuck it.
Five minutes later the day manager at Wallgreens is badgering me to get a discount card…and then asking the same questions…same outcome.
Fortunately, have given up my drivers license and car due to eye problems, meaning that I will not have the boys upstairs recording my every move with transponders to track direction, speed, whereabouts etc when we have so many electric cars that that they can’t use a gas tax anymore.
Don’t believe it’s coming? Well, how else we gonna pay off our enormous military debt unless the country raises cash by privatizing all those miles of roads, bridges, streets etc into user-paid toll systems? Yes, Virginia,Santa is coming!
Won’t use a library card anymore since the so-called Patriot Act.
Just remember that poster of the old barefoot guys in overalls toting their squirrel rifles:
“Sure, we gonna turn in our guns. Gubmint’ll protect us.”
Can’t wait till the Easter Bunny gets here. In a radio controlled mini-chopper with his own cute lil’ civiliancam.
