One thing I had success with last year is hooking the minnow parallel to its body on either side of the dorsal fin with the hook toward the minnow head vs hooking perpendicular through the back.
November 24, 2008 at 5:11 pm #724129Josephine was half open as of last night with other open areas.
November 20, 2008 at 4:36 pm #723506Hi Brian,
Good idea.
Before any ‘scony’ folks see this could you flip the true and false. Fiction=false Non-fiction=true.
Thanks from a fellow Minnesotan.
July 15, 2008 at 2:30 pm #698989I will certainly be watching this post. I have had similar problems with my 1977 85 hp Johnson just in the last two weeks. I have not discovered a cause yet. It fired up and ran perfect to my first spot on Thursday. It would not start the rest of the evening. I could not get it started on Friday at all. Charged the battery overnight and it started fine on Saturday only to kill and never start again the rest of the day.
Thanks for the post.

July 24, 2007 at 7:39 pm #593498Jon,
Congratulations on the great looking ride. I hope it treats you well for a long time.
May 2, 2007 at 3:18 pm #567075Rob,
This is from the StarTribune:
McGREGOR AREA
The channel on the north shore of Lake Minnewawa is giving up crappies in six feet. Look to Big Sandy Lake for a few crappies in shallow water as well. Sunfish reports have been limited, but look to Aitkin Lake to start producing fish within the next week.
Good luck!
May 2, 2007 at 2:53 pm #567063I was planning on fishing Traverse this weekend with my dad. Could I please get your opinions on the wind forecast on Accuweather.com? For Friday and Saturday they are predicting 20-30mph winds with 40-50mph gusts. That sounds beyond miserable to me. I am really disappointed at the thought of canceling the trip.
Good luck to everyone fishing the MTT!

I would like to join you. Let me know if you need more info before making your decision.
Thank you,
December 20, 2006 at 2:33 pm #513279Colklink83,
I was really just trying to get out of the house quickly that morning so I wasn’t geared up for fishing. I just asked about fall fishing on the area lakes? ‘Some’. If they are fishing walleyes on the steep break just beyond the reed clump on Bald Eagle? ‘Yes’. and then he offered that a young guy had caught a large walleye in that area recently.December 19, 2006 at 9:18 pm #512959Thanks for the report Mark.
I am from the Roseville area and have been meaning to fish/learn the area lakes. Owasso, Bald Eagle and White Bear are on the list. I asked Santa for ‘time’ and he laughed. I did some driving this last weekend to the boat ramps and swung into the bait shop on 61. Some folks out fishing but I did not talk to anyone but the guy running the bait shop.October 31, 2006 at 6:06 pm #494185Could he possibly have been refering to the President and his study habits?
October 18, 2006 at 4:20 pm #490219I think this is a great example of a ‘bad’ report. I always analyze what I should have done differently when I have an off day. I love hearing what other people do to try and find fish as they go down the game plan list. Thank you Jack!
October 12, 2006 at 7:00 pm #488184Hi Kraig,
We are looking at hitting the East Side sometime after midnight on Friday. An old fishing buddy has to work late so it is what it is. Saturday we will be fishing somewhere depending on our results. Wind looks OK. Good luck to you and I’ll see you next Friday!

July 12, 2006 at 5:51 pm #460059I have a 1976 Cherokee that I have done extensive work on. What kind of questions do you have? Made down in Mackenzie, Tennessee. I think I have the 1600 Jamican model although I have left from that is the hull. It measures 15’9. Rated for 115 hp. I have a 1977 85hp Johnson. Moves me at 37mph gps Really nice, deep sides. Not the driest or smoothest ride in waves. Placing the boat on the trailer is hit or miss.
May 18, 2006 at 2:32 pm #447347Tom,
I think there is a way to toggle between the split screens and either have the sonar side active so you can edit settings or the map side active so you can edit. I stumbled across this last year and it seemed to be a one button process that I don’t recall right now.
May 3, 2006 at 4:42 pm #443311Rob & folks,
I just bought one used/like new at Amazon for less than $7 shipped.
May 3, 2006 at 2:36 pm #443241Dad picked one up on Eight Mile last Father’s Day that had been tagged on the SW shore.
March 22, 2006 at 4:08 pm #432191I went through this a couple years ago. I used an aircraft aluminum stripper from Checker/AutoZone etc. Bought a good respirator, rubber gloves, safety glasses, long sleeves, cheap brushes etc. Yes the stuff burns your skin. I turtle shelled the boat. Applied the paste. Follow the directions and remove the paint goo with wood shims. This is a layer by layer process. The last bits of paint were removed with paste and a paint stripper pad from the Depot. White handle with a blue-green scouring pad. This gums up. The scouring pad also left swirl marks in the aluminum from the scrubbing. I was told by a sandblaster that you could get pin holes in the aluminum if someone wasn’t careful. He may not of wanted the job.
March 8, 2006 at 9:21 am #1429696Great article Chris with some great tips. I’ve been telling the wife that I’m excited for the upcoming open water season for about a month now, preliminary chats with the friends about weekends in May, thoughts about getting the boat back out of its storage area, etc, etc.
Good luck this season!
January 16, 2006 at 3:46 pm #412218I went out of Everts with a couple of buddies. Dean is just a great guy and it was nice to finally meet him. We ran up to the dam around 8:00AM and joined another dozen boats. Fished there for an hour and a half with one bite apiece. No fish to show for it. We did see 3-4 other fish caught. Went downstream and fished the crotch of the Y and a small confluence further down on the Minnesota side with nothing. Headed back up to the dam for another hour and again nothing. Minnows and plastic were our presentations. Back at Everts we saw a boat transferring a livewell full of nice looking sauger/walleye? that we hear they had picked up the previous afternoon/evening fishing ????? Dean may have more information.
November 15, 2005 at 7:42 pm #396858Thanks again Kraig.
It was a win win situation that night. A night fishing walleyes on Mille Lacs with you or a home cooked prime rib dinner and birthday beers with my brother.

October 27, 2005 at 3:00 pm #392348I use a bead as well for knot protection. I have also noticed that the sinker will not get hung up on the swivel when I use a bead.
October 21, 2005 at 7:16 pm #391117A simple question to all regarding trolling methods.
Are you running an electric trolling motor this shallow?
Are you running a kicker motor?
Are you running your main motor?
