Im withholding judgement until solid proof shows up. CNN and AP have shown their colors and I do not believe anything from either at this point. If the plan was to simply fly the plane into a remote locale of the Indian Ocean then there would have been no need for all of the disabling of tracking devices. If it looks like a duck and walks like a duck……..my gut says this plane is on a tarmac in Iran awaiting departure to its final destination somewhere over Israel.

As to another comment regarding bills passed while you were sleeping……US just turned over internet watchdog authority to the United Nations. Thats right – the same one world authority that wants centralized world currency, military, religion, and has consistently pushed for arms regulation votes that would supercede US constitution and sovereignty of the 2nd ammendment…….nothing to see over here……keep watching for the whereabouts of flight 370 folks.

Affirmative action. Case closed…..racism at it’s finest and government/politician sponsored. This is just another example.

From others I talk to it seems anywhere from 1-3 seems to be the norm. I personally will get 3 tickets. 1 for big fish if I get one, and the others for smaller fish that weigh approximately what I feel will be required for 150th place and 400th place (based upon previous years results).

Gotta have a horse in the race to win Red!

And yes you are right – ticket sales end the minute the tournament begins so you have to have ‘pre-bought’ a ticket. Not sure why thus comes as a surprise to anyone……I’m sure you’d rather fish for free and then come to win prizes if you caught some great fish, or simply drive away $30 richer if you didn’t catch anything – but it’s set up like a tournament. You have to enter the tournament (buy tickets) first.

This seems very logical to me. Good luck to you if you decide to enter.

I think when you decide to be the driver you assume all ‘wear and tear’ or liabilities of your driving. There is NO WAY i would accept a dime from anyone else in the vehicle. Nor would i expect anyone to ask me for cash if they had a mishap.

The transmission story is absolutely hilarious thay someone would expect others to pay for years and 10’s of thousands of miles of wear and tear just cuz it happened when others were in the vehicle.

Judge Judy says the guy in the rear is responsible for both parties damages – she also finds it laughable that you would blame the car in front. You are responsible for following at a safe distance given the conditions.

If you were in a carpool headed to work and the driver got in an accident would you expect the others in the car to chip in for damages? Why then if you are on the way fishing instead would the situation change at all?

Burr – any updates on the fishing / ice deptjs and extension required? I have a 12″ ext for a 3hpjif 10″ i figure im good up to about 46-48″ of ice max. Jiffy didnt offer anything other than the 6/12 option ext. May have to have a machine shop custom make an 18.

Any reports? Been watching Lee Noldens facebook page for LW and it seems awefully quiet and unupdated for some time now.

I did speak with a few guides up there and they were all booked. Looks like it’ll be a do-it-yourself which is fine…..i’ll pack the binoculars LoL!

Coming in blind I would recommend bringing a quality set of binoculars – they double as fish finders. If its whitebass you are after the action/groups are hard to miss. It should be so warm that many will be sitting out in the open. You can watch as the groups develop or dissolve based upon whats happening. The giveaways are guys scattered about moving every 5 minutes and then all of them come to one location and stop (here’s your sign). Drive around a bit and start with the groups – venturing out on your own if it doesnt produce. I’ll be fishing in quieter waters in 8.5 – 11 fow for the walters but may come out deeper to catch a few whitebass to register in the battle. Lets be realistic – the biggest prizes for 150th and 400th will in all likelihood be won with whitebass or perch so at some point I may have to head out into one of the gangs.

Best of luck to you folks making the trek over.

I will be living on the lake for a few days – jiggin by day and watching tip ups at night while nappin in the truck. Good luck to you if ya venture out. Start at going onto the ice at Merritt street in Oshkosh and look for the cities of folks scattered about. Best fishing for whitebass is usually in the ‘tight’ massive groups while the walters and crappies are getting hunted and followed by mobile fishermen in looser, smaller communities in slightly shallower water.

Roadtrip – Lake Winnebago (Battleonbago.org). 2 boats and a new truck given out to 150th place, 400th and 600th i believe. So you need only register a perch or a crappie or whitebass etc to win big. Our group will be chasing walleyes in the flats but you only need to register a fish….any fish to perhaps drive home in a new truck or pulling a new lund walleye rig w 150hp 4 stroke.

It aint LOTW or winnie action but its a great tourney with party, fishfry, bands etc.

Tro a couple dozen 4-6 pounders my way over 4 days of fishing and i’ll be whistlin dixey. Having grown up on and fished Sturgeon Bay and Bays de Noc for several decades i have caught my share of biggins. Just looking for somewhere new to go with a few friends and have some fun. Let me know if you end up going with your group that weekend perhaps we can dance a jig together out on the ice one day lol.

You are my hero Burr Just keep writing as the inspiration hits you. Lots of valuable information for us first timers. Even some of the things most folks wouldn’t think of such as spare blades, cell phone service, credit card pre-calls etc. All good stuff. We are packing extra augers, spark plugs – and tools to change them, vexilars you name it. Can’t prepare enough for something like this. Thanks again for all of your experience and insights!

Does anyone know what the requirements for non-residents bringing snowmobiles for lake transportation for fishing are? Is a Snopass required? Helmet? The 3rd party proof of insurance etc.

Can anyone tell me if the Manitoba requirements for non-residents bringing snowmobiles for lake travel fall under the same rules as trailriding – requiring helmets, a snopass, third party insurance liability of 200k etc?

Burr – thanks for all of the helpful information. I just booked one of the last rooms I could find at the Lakeview Resort in Gimli. Looks like a little drive to the Winnipeg Or Chalet Beach areas where folks talk about going off. We will be fishing March 14 – March 17th. For now at least we will be up there but lots of preparation and planning ahead. Thanks again for taking the time to write up some valuable info.

Hey folks. I too am just putting together plans to get up there 3/21-3/25 so it looks like a number of us will be overlapping dates. How many of you are hiring a guide service or are you doing it yourself? I am used to fishing Lake Winnebago in WI which is a very large body of water also – but in March we do almost all of our fishing withing 2 miles of the incoming tributary near Oshkosh. Thus it’s just a matter of run/gun with a few friends to track them down each day. Is it similar out here in front of the Red River or is a guide worthwhile?

I am certainly open to sharing phone numbers/info etc with any other groups that have overlapping dates with me to help one another have a great trip. Feel free to PM me if you would like to do so.

Ajaikens31 – any info that you would be willing to provide to me after your trip would be greatly appreciated. I’d certainly like to talk to you over the phone if possible when you are done.

Thanks 18Fisher for your input. What dates did you fish in 2011, and if I may ask what was the name of the outfitter/guide that you had issues with? Would like to steer clear of that one. Thanks again.
