We had it tonight. Hamburger, chopped garlic, onion , can of mixed vegetable’s, can of cream of chicken, tator tots on top. If I make it it gets cheese if Mama makes it it doesn’t. I like the sloppy joe idea!!

I have used the Basskhang walleye dead stick for this type of setup. If you want even more backbone the power noodle would work also. Basskhang has a shop in Osseo off Jefferson Hwy. Address: 8760 Jefferson Hwy, Osseo, MN 55369. You can sand the rods but it takes the finish off you will need to re paint it. Ge will have all the parts you need to build the rod. I would cut the blank before I sanded it to adjust the action. Cut from the tip to adjust action cut from the butt to adjust the length of the rod to suit your style.

Family tradition for Christmas is fried potato dumpling in sauerkraut soup. Oh so good. I will have to find the recipe to share. We make our dumplings from leftover mash potatoes and flower. 50/50. They freeze well. As a kid my favorite was fried dumplings with maple syrup or pork chops with sauerkraut and fried dumplings.

I still make dumplings just to fry. My Czech Gma hooked me on these as a kid. I use mashed potatoes with egg and flour boiled till they float then cool and freeze till ready to use. I fry them in bacon grease. Usually with pork chops on the egg.

I have built several on the Basskhang Lake Trout Carbon blank. I use Fugi VSS reel seat less plastic for the cold with a split grip. For guides I use Seaguide OSG with stainless steel rings I started with a 16 and worked down to an 8. If you want a glue on tip top use the Seaguide Tip Top ST with stainless steel ring. Others have used the Pac Bay Minama SV guides

I have the Dewalt brushless hammer drill. Love the power for the Kdrill but have problems with the chuck loosening up.

I have a Jason Mitchelle 1 man flip over house. I do not like the door system it seems I have to crawl out of it to get out. I started just lifting the house to get out but all my heat goes then and I can not bank it. Inside has plenty of room for me 6’2″ 280. I run a jig rod and a deadstick. I think it would be better if I had a rod holder attached to the pole for the snare rod I use as a dead stick. I drill 2 7.5″ holes and use a small buddy heater you screw onto the 1 pound tanks to heat it. -20 on LOTW with the wind howling and it kept it nice and warm till I had to open it up to get out. The clam seat in it could defiantly be better but it folds flat and fits under the cover on my bed and fits nicely into my 5’6″ F150 box.

Basskhang shuttles are nice and they fit in the dash tray on my 2016 F150 for on ice gps use. I broke the transducer holder glow cup off on mine my own fault. Only complaint is it is out in the open no travel cover. I had mine set up to run it off a 20 volt dewalt battery.

I build a Deadstick similar to the JT one and man it’s fun to watch that tip load up. I use glow pink or gold for colors. I set one up with a plain hook and one with a flash spoon like the tingler with a gold back. Full minnows hooked through the tail was the answer last week. Usually if you watch the flasher and see a mark higher it is suspended larger fish. Last week everything was stuck to the bottom.

I run the 20 volt for my helix and shack lights. Works well and will run the lights forever and the helix about 10 hours with the brightness turned down. The only issue is at the end of the cycle the power goes from 100% – 0 in like a minute. So have a spare with you. I also run my hammer drill and kdrill on the 20 volt.

Yep, What Don said I am up to 15 now. I use Basskhang and Vline both quality companies with great customer service. Check them both out on Facebook and message them and they will set you up. For an all around blank start with the Basskhang Perch Carbon or Vline Uncommon carbon both great blanks and easy for first build. Let me know if you have any questions I will try to help you out.

If I was to build a young person a rod it would be a ML perch/ walleye rod 32″ long. 36″ is a lot of rod to handle on the ice for a youngster. Shoot me a PM I will build him whatever he wants.

I have the Basskhang shuttle for the simple reason I can use a 20volt dewalt battery to run my Helix 7, Kdrill, lights in my shelter, my hammer drill, and impact driver. I bring a 3 batteries and they run and gun me all day. I would skip all the accessories.

Has anyone ran tracks on a Honda 420 Rancher? Just wondering how they do on the lakes in the winter. May also be used to plow snow.

Big Green Egg.. Grill, smoke, Pizza oven, Indirect and direct cooking all in one. Just held pork belly for bacon at 200 degrees for 5 hours never budged. Next day burgers and steaks at 500 degrees.

Denny O, Here is one I use and really like on all pork. I 1/2 everything and leave the salt out as I do not like salted bbq. Any thing left over I put in a small bottle and use on chops, country style ribs, or puled pork. Pretty good on chicken also.
    1 1/2 cups brown sugar
    1 cup paprika
    1/4 cup salt
    1/4 cup black pepper
    1/4 cup cumin
    1/4 cup granulated garlic
    1/4 cup granulated onion
    1/4 cup cinnamon
1 1/5 dashes of ground cloves

If you like the.385x105x78 why not try that? It is a pretty cheap blank and they make a couple different sizes if you want it heavier. I’ve built several of the ice rods on that blank but not an open water rod. One downfall is the weight compared to a carbon rod. If you still have one of the blanks full length give it a flex and see what you think.

Dh Custom has a big boy noodle that would work. The .385 would also work I have built on that blank. It comes as a 6′ rod and needs to be cut down. It is really stiff think pool cue with some flex. It is way cheaper than the DH custom though both blanks are fiberglass. If you are looking for a carbon blank the vline king carbon or the basskhang trout blank would work if you took some off the tip to stiffen it up a bit.

I use the adaptor Joe S recommended for my shack lights and phone charging. Basskhangs shuttle with my helix 7 g2 reduces to 12v. And a Dewalt 20v hammer drill with an 8″ kdrill. I have never run out of battery in 1 day of fishing. The helix will run 2 days with the light turned down to 60% I can pound 20+ holes in 18″ of ice with the kdrill and if I run out I bring the charger and charge in the wheelhouse or pickup. I run 2 8ah 20v dewalt batteries and 1 5ah Dewalt battery.

I see that in his prebuilt rod section there is no deadstick option. You can contact him directly and he will set you up with one. Or you can have one of the builders on this site build you one. Myself included.

On the Basskahng blank section of his site there is a deadstick blank. If you click on that and scroll down a little you will see the panfish deadstick and walleye deadstick. They have been redesigned this season with a lighter tip. if you click on the down arrow by the size the panfish and walleye deadsticks will come up as an option.

Jim, are you using the stainless steel wire or are you finding titanium? I am looking for a source for titanium spring bobber wire.

I would look at Ice Strong spring bobbers and get the size you need for the tungsten you will be using and attach it with heat shrink tubing they provide and try it before you cut off the epoxy and thread. If you choose to cut off the epoxy and thread you will need new size a rod builders thread like fuji or pro thread some guide epoxy some super glue and possibly a new tip guide depending on weather you can salvage the existing one or not. You will also need a way to turn the rod consistently for several hours while the epoxy dries. Be super careful not to cut to deep or you will compromise the tip of the bullwhip. They are really fine at the tip. If you have not built rods before I would contact someone local who has and they can walk you through the process.
