I recommend vermilion community college In ely, MN. Take the wildlife wild land law enforcement degree and in 2.5 years, a lot of fishing and hunting later, you will be eligible to take the MN POST test. I did this and while I worked part time at a sheriffs office I got my BA in criminal justice.

I did and and never did regret it. Good luck sir!

I have the Bitzenberger (sp???). It’s about 100 but I don’t regret it. Really fun to play around with. I like to switch the vanes around, but the biggest plus is not having to wait 5 days during November when you mess an arrow up. I did see a cool FB about a punch for feathers to make your own. Maybe someone knows where to buy as I thought it was like 30 bucks. You’ll never save money, but neither does golf…

Good thing we don’t do this because of money. We can always make more $$$$$!!!

That fletching jig is made right down the road from where I live. I know the owner of Bohning Archery very well

Well let him know he has a good friend in me! I loved the simplicity of this jig. I had to mess around with the glue thickness and amount due to trial and error, but I am pleased with how it worked!!

The “Thin Blue Line” stands for law enforcement’s separation of order from chaos, or, as Oxford Dictionaries describes, it’s a reference to police, “in the context of maintaining order during unrest.”

So far I haven’t needed to cut my own arrows, but I do need to fletch so here it goes!

I purchased the Bohning fletching jig from my local Fleet Farm. I purchased these extras:

    1. Jig
    2. Right helical
    3. Straight vane clamp (comes with jig)
    4. Bohning fletching removal tool
    5. 3” vanes (will be purchasing 4” next time)
    6. Bohning fletch-tite premium glue
    7. Miter sawed my own block for stability.

Below are photos of the purchase. I will post finished photos soon!

100% correct! The tourney makes me proud to be Minnesotan for sure. News is getting around the country about how big time hockey is in MN. Proud of our boys and fantastic games at that!

    Hey Randy
So which Frabill model did you settle on?
Looks like a roomy flip over

He got the larger model Citadel, with those nice side doors. No more falling out the front or stepping on stuff.

Was that what John Gillespie was hollering about on his last show? razz

Is it just me or does Gillespie steal folks fish on his show and hold them up, even before they can hold their catch!?

    I love it haha

All my tools are packed away on a shelf in my basement right now as I have not picked up my bow in about 15 years now.

I encourage you to lower the lb wt. and throw some arrows down field again my friend!

As for the tools on a shelf, I hope to someday have the same issue and when I am long gone, my grandchildren find it and become curious. That’s on hell of an heirloom

I’d start at Onestringer.com for custom wraps, true custom wraps. Jig, I’ve tried a few, if you’re going to get serious about it, I’d recommend the Bitzenberger (sp???). Lots of vane options, I prefer vanetec with their vt-2000 glue. Tons of fun, post some pics when done

I checked out the site and loved it! I love the idea of wrapping because the amount of personalization an arrow can have with the hunt/hunter. Would a wrap effect the flight at all?

    Great ideas throughout!!

To summarize this is what I found:

    1. Purchase a larger truck bed (not sure financially I’ll do so soon ) )

    2. Flip the tailgate straps over the latch hooks. I like this idea and will have to try it!

    3. Purchase a different shelter or replace with a hub.

    4. Get a tailgate extender.

    5. Build a platform above the wheel wells to raise the shelter above the curvature and close the tailgate.

Thanks to everyone for the insight. Seemed to be a popular subject, and I bet it’s due to the same frustration.

For those of you buying trucks to fit your ice shack…. you guys are awesome!

Good luck out there this season!

I am a fan of the big buddy!

Either put the two small propane canisters on the thing or do what I do and haul a 20lb tank. I LOVE IT.

I may or may not have too much time on my hands making trinkets. I actually don’t have a problem putting my house in my truck, but when you have metal, a welder, and some beer, sometimes things get made and pictures are taken haha

Gander sucks anyway. Go to the Shell gas station on the east side of 5 by Southcross Dr if you want good livebait.

X2 support this small business. It would be a shame to lose this bait shop. He’s even got a shop dog!

Thank you for asking! It is a good move to ask before doing it and potentially find yourself in the back of a squad car. Also, thank you for exercising your Second Amendment rights.

In my opinion , the best rule is if you are wondering if you can carry you probably shouldn’t. Not saying I’m trying to stop you from caring, because I would carry everywhere every day if possible, but I would hate to find a person in legal trouble Because of a wishy-washy answer on a thread. It may sound silly but I would ask the library if they have any issues with you caring inside of it? Don’t tell them your name just ask as a concerned citizen.

    What is it?

If you have an atv and use the hitch pin to pull your portable out on the ice it uses two ridged poles that connect to the sled. Those poles go to the atv and that’s how you pull it on the ice for early season etc..

I made this so I can put a portable/ gear in my bed of my truck and pull another buddies shack out. I was inspired by watching a guy get pulled inside of his portable sled behind a pickup the weekend: it looked like he was making sure the pull rope stayed on the reciver ball on the truck. Way dangerous if the truck stops

If you’re going to go the gas route and mostly fish out of a portable I’d recommend going with a Strikemaster Lazer Pro. Cuts quicker and has significantly more power than the Honda. Yes you have to mix gas.

I agree with lazer pro on speed and power. Don’t worry about mixing gas,

Home Depot has 40:1 non oxy for 4 buck a liter. I use it and love it! Almost no smoke as well.

Fish or pay the 20k for a truck to be pulled out with fines, etc…. it’s good to get some exercise! IMO I would walk out:)

Okay here is my two cents,

I have had some issues with my Strikemaster lazer pro 10″ but it was MY FAULT!

I forgot to store it correctly one time a few years back and I had to replace the carb and lines. If you take care of the machine:

It will cut the biggest whole the fastest. I lived in Ely 3.5 years and cut close to 500 holes I bet with all stock parts and just put fuel in it. I paid 600+ but it was worth it. I love that damn auger.

I posted a thread a few days ago of some
Issues I had with it. I called d-rock and got an intake and gaskets with carb and it’s like new. Took 4 years for blades to wear down to replace. I love my Strikemaster

    Hey guys,

As a Deputy Sheriff it is important to let you folks know some of the things that may help:

    1. Criminals IMO read these threads quite a bit. When Discussing placement of these tracking devices (which work!) make sure to private message the person asking the question. I know we all think criminals are “dumb” but believe it or not I have dealt with people who do plenty of research on the type of “clientele” they are going to steal from.

    2. Mark all of your gear with some sort of special I.D. marking. These guys tend to go straight to pawn shops in the metro (or wherever.) Use a metal inscriber to put initials or something along those lines so you have some firepower when trying to retrieve your belongings in the event your gear is stolen.

    3. TAKE GOOD PHOTOS! If you have detailed photos of your equipment it will help the police.

    4. Write down product info. Serial numbers are key to an investigation. No serial number, Nothing to track.

    5. Don’t shy away from the little tings. Put a tongue lock on the trailer. Put a nice heavy-duty chain and lock around the wheel and some sort of frame. If it even looks hard to steal most criminals will move on to something that is easier to take.

    6. Blinking light in window. This one is somewhat of a stretch. Find a blinking red or blue LED light and place it in the window. In the off season order up a sticker that says “this trailer is monitored by a tracking device.” Place this near places a criminals would look in, try to open, windows, doors, metal tongue etc. This is a little deterrent that is simply the reason we all put fake “ADT” signs in our front yards.

It is sad we live in a world that we have to do all this. It is up to you to decide if your fish house will be the one in the Outdoor News as “MISSING PLEASE HELP.”

    Interesting question.

I would be willing to pay for the extra line cost up to the cost of the license itself. Anything over that is probably overkill. I would pay more if I had the option to put a portion of that money towards a lake of my choice. I.E. call it “Extra line for the shoreline.” Something like that.

18-20. I drive a ram 1500 and still would rather drive home than get a ride. I would hoof-it and enjoy some family excersize, not to mention the story your kids will have saying dad got mom to walk to the icehouse !

So thanks to some posts above I have been able to drill holes like the machine is brand-new! I ended up emptying out the gas tank blowing out the lines and adjusting my vent tube. I ran the recommended amount of seafoam through the tank along with brand-new 40 to 1 fuel. Brand-new spark plug and brand-new blades. I did about 10 test holes and am experiencing a bog down only at first when I’m trying to get the machine up to RPM. It will not bog under load anymore. Just to be safe I will order a carb rebuild kit and I believe that will solve the entire issue altogether.

    I hope this helps somebody!

Make sure to cut that vent tube at an angle too. I’ve heard that it can seal against the cap if it’s cut square.

I found an issue with my vent tube where it basically disintegrated in the tank. It would shut down after 3-5 holes. Problem solved.

    On it! Thanks biggil!

    Well folks,

I just had a eureka moment! While reading through multiple threads on this issue I have found what may have been my problem all along. While looking through my Carburetter I did not find much residue, sludge, any issues really. What I did find came from me scratching my head looking at my auger in pieces. I happened to be looking at my gas tank and remembered I had put new gas lines and Gromit in the tank because of the leak issue many of us have had. My vent tube for the auger in the tank has been submerged in the gas when it should have been facing the filler neck towards the Cap!

In the owners manual it says the vent tube should be facing the And mine was not. If you are like many others and myself, you have replace these lines and probably have not paid attention to this issue. Once I get it all together and drill some holes I will update everyone

Today I will do the sea foam trick. I also picked up a “tune up kit” from Cabelas. This kit had a smokeless oil for a one gallon can of gas, a champion spark plug and wrench to boot.

    Here’s what I will do:

Tear carb completely apart and clean with carb cleaner.

    Replace plug

Blow out gas tank vent line because this can possibly affect the augers performance if clogged with fuel. On that note, try NOT to overfill your tank. And always place tank on ice with filler neck facing the sky.

While inside I will take a peak at the piston to make sure there is no scoring or abnormal scrapes.

I will replace some of the fuel line clamps because they appear loose.

I will keep you folks updated!
