I was out Sunday on a smaller area Lake. Definitely need a snowmobile or tracks. We got roughly 10” of snow this last weekend

Thanks for the update, I don’t have either unfortunately so I will have to figure something out.

Figured I would bump this again as it is that time of year, or maybe already past that time of year. Anyone willing to share ice and travel conditions in the BLA area? I know there was a good storm up there the past week.

I cannot ice fish until Sunday PM. The ice sure looks nice now. I know it can be perceiving per the weathermen, the sheriff, and the DNR …

I drove over the Hwy 36 bridge this afternoon. Big trucks and wheel houses out in force all over the St Croix River. Looked like some were driving a mile or so up from the landing.

Looks like now you will have to worry about slipping on slick ice.

Thanks for the update! Will be even more after the cold snap tonight. going to try and get out again this weekend

Supposed to get cold again too so that should be fun if your permanent house is under water…

On the Croix now, lots of traffic, no sturgeon

Was out on Croix last weekend so was curious if the warm weather will hurt. Thanks!

Do we lose much ice with these warm days? Still been pretty cold here at night.

Warm weather again this weekend will make for further slop. Been wanting to get onto the Croix anyone driving out there yet?

Perfect circles? Probably someone checking ice thickness and quality with a 1″ auger

I am seeing 30’s this weekend followed by a potential sizable storm next Tues/Wed which could be a mix of rain/snow.

You don’t ice fish. Stay out of it. Lol if we wanted a weather girl we’d turn on channel 11

Single digit temps overnight the last few nights have helped a lot I would assume.

Problem solved. Cuz I run standard round gumball head jigs.

I realize round gumball jigs are what a lot of people use, myself included.

In a goal to always improve and catch more fish I am asking about a tactic I have never tried. By all means if the gumballs work for you go for it.

Just running with standard 5 and 7mm or do you look for the ones with the bigger hooks?

I run both styles depending on the size of minnow

    Thanks for the info!

The good thing about a musky rod and the low pro reels is you can multi purpose them instead of just a cat/sturgeon setup.

While I would love to have 4-6 different setups for every species, not feasible at this point )

I know this is a few years old but man there is some good info in there. I am looking forward to trying this out come fall.

Curious FBRM if your setup has changed in the past 5-6 years.

Also interested in how you setup your bungeed anchors. Again, great info here!

Thanks for all the info. Plan right now is to purchase a 2050ls reata. Sounds like it shouldnt be too bad.

Of course the wife want to take it out before we even get it home, but I do not think that is a good idea until we do the transfer at the dmv.

Assuming you do the title transfer before the license transfer with the dnr?

Can you drive the boat before doing either of these things?

How is this still such pain. Looking at buying a used boat now in MN and just trying to find details on how/where to pay tax and how to transfer the title is crazy.

Would be nice if there was just a detailed writeup from the DMV and/or the DNR.

Exactly :). I was just curious if others with console boats have figured out a good sharpshooting(shart :)) for these boats. tiller is just not an option for me.

For me the whole point of asking is because the wife and kids want a full windshield boat. So that is what we will go with.

Skim ice is really common on Superior, we see a lot of it in the spring.

I run through it on plane all of the time (seriously). It’s never left a single mark. Just keep your eyes open for ice bergs and dodge those when you see them.

There’s times when I have to run through miles of it just to find open water.

What kind of boat do you run?

Swung by there today. looks there there is a plowed road in one direction and you might be able to driver the other since there has been so much sled traffic.
